So, I’ve realized now that I can’t do the graphic work that I need to do on an iPad Pro since it’s seriously gimped, so I am looking at getting one of the new MacBook Pros since I just got my stimulus check. Maybe sell my iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard combo too to get the most out of my purchase. Is a MacBook Pro a better alternative to an iPad Pro? Would it be better in just about every way? I know the iPad Pro has 600 nits brightness (I think) and the MacBook Pro has 500 nits, but that’s pretty close... If it can get my work done, then it’d be worth it in my eyes. I’m just tired of having a device that can’t do what I need it to do. What do you think I should do?

Graphic design? I would probably look at what experts in your field use on Youtube and go for the same setup.
I use both, the Macbook Pro and iPad Pro for my day to day work, but I am not a designer. To me they are completely different devices that serve different purposes.

The ipad pro is one of the best tools for graphical artists. Or music creators.

For just normal pc stuff you could use it.
Or use a laptop. We are getting close now but not there yet.

Def one of the best gadgets i bought in recent years.

Iphone not so much.
Oh and i freaking love those airpod pro's too.

Those 16” 8 core I9’s look pretty sweet but are apparently mad loud... like PS4Pro loud. I’m looking to upgrade my 13” ‘15 for a base model ‘16 in the near future as it struggles running Live 10, Push 2 and a couple essential plug ins at an acceptable buffer setting. I *almost* regret upgrading to Live 10 as 9 ran decent on my machine but I cannot go back.

If there was an iOS version of Live that ran decent on an iPad Pro I would love to try it. I haven’t been able to gel with any DAWs I’ve tried on iOS, I prefer to send midi into my iOS synths and pipe the audio out. Even bought an Apogee Duet for this purpose.

I love my iPad but it cannot replace a computer completely for me wrt audio production just yet.

They're a consumer products company that makes a product that is extremely popular and most of their mobile products are well made.
They also make well made, if overpriced, laptops and desktops. Nothing outside of some questionable motherboard and cooling choices are trash.

I don't use their products and I likely never will because I don't value form over function, but this post is just a hyperbolic nonsense.

Apple's products are very good and can be listed among the best in some categories, but the company isn't without faults so there is no need to counter bashing with hyperbolic fanboyism either.

As far as answering the topic. I'd say the macbook is the better investment especially in resale value and terms of usability, nothing can really replace a mouse cursor imo.
I've only used a cheap wacom tablet for drawing and it wasn't great, so the only thing I can say to that is that don't cheap out.

EDIT: And I hate to use qualifiers and post about my work, but I'm a certified Apple Technician (Samsung too) and have worked on just about every product they've made in the past 11 years. I haven't had a chance to work on the new Mac Pro though.

I might sound like a fanboy, but in my personal experience the products are indeed better. Maybe they’re overpriced, but you get what you pay for.

Anyways... I have a question: I just sold my iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard so I could get the new 13” MacBook Pro, but what I was wondering is can you access all of your iCloud files on the MacBook? I’m going to assume so since it’s all one big infrastructure and I can access the files on my iPhone too.

Yes. Any Apple device you are signed into can access your iCloud storage. I was working on a song in a hotel once and didn’t pay attention to the directory when I saved. Got home, jumped on the iMac and plugged in my drive and didn’t see the song. Freaked out for a moment, checked my iCloud files and there it was!

I am really stuck on what Apple product to buy. On one hand I am considering a MacBook Air, but I don’t know if it’s up to par for what I need it to do. Then again, the graphic design I am looking to do is not all that intensive. That’s why I am second guessing spending over $1,900 for a spec’d out 13” MacBook Pro. I could just get a base Air and save a lot AND get an Apple Watch to boot (maybe have some cash to spare).

I thought about getting a quad-core Air, but I’ve heard about the heating issues with it and I’m kinda scared. So, that’s why I am gravitating to the $999 base model. Would I really need a $1,900 MacBook Pro for streaming, browsing, writing, daily tasks like that on top of some light graphic design? I am starting to doubt it. I will be running Photoshop, so...

Is a dual-core i3 processor really that slow? What about 8GB of RAM? My laptop that’s busted right now that I’ve been doing my graphic design on, a 3 or 4 year old crappy HP Pavilion, is probably much worse off than an Air. I’d say it definitely is. It’s a garbage laptop that can’t do much of anything with stuttering and locking up/lagging. Plus my keyboard is fucked and I am using a tiny Bluetooth keyboard that I lay over the top of it for my work.

Is there anyone here with experience with the MacBook Air or the MacBook Pro? I need some genuine advice here.
