How can Microsoft win back your heart for XB1?

It will come down to the games for me. If Sunset Overdrive, that Black Tusk game, etc turn out great then I will want one.

They've got me in the door with Dead Rising 3, but I'll stay merrily with them if Sunset Overdrive delivers.

I'm one of those console-neutral guys so it's not like I won't have one. It's just if they want me to buy the XB1 SKUs they gotta deliver.

Nothing.

Every feature/policy seems to come with a catch or the PS4 can do it better or for no cost.

PlayTV 2 will be out soon enough for the PS4 which covers TV.
Even PlayTV is miles ahead of what the xbox tv option is and that's been out since 2008.

They lost it when my 360 RROD'd a week before Gears 2. As far as i'm concerned the 360 was mostly a machine for better multiplats and now the PS4 will serve that purpose.

How can any corporation win the heart of any sane person?

These are products you can chose to buy if they appeal to you.

If you want a meaningful relationship with a multinational corporation, some time off work and a holiday somewhere peaceful might do you more good than a console.

Nothing. The platform began with poor practices and PR spin, and the only reason there was an about-face on the matter is because people thankfully didn't fall for it.

All of their efforts today seem less of what they want to do and more of trying to fix a poor foundation. Rotting pillars are still rotting pillars.

They seem to have fallen into the same, if not worse, place that Sony did back in 2006. The bigger problem I see right now is the company itself seems to be in disarray. Xbox One seems to be built specifically with all their original ideas in mind, but now they've turned around and are suddenly doing it differently.

It took Sony a few years to get out of the hole they dug themselves in, but I suspect it may take longer for MS, if only because of their focus on Kinect. They also lost my interest back when RROD was at full steam, and then completely when their first party efforts were re-routed to back Kinect.

Like the rest of the company, Xbox is now chasing after competitors, rather than trying to innovate, themselves.

A kinectless SKU. I am not paying $100 more just for something I will never use nor care. Also I don't trust MS with a camera on my house and not when MS are the bigger pushers for NUads.

"Win back your heart" is a little weird to say, but they can get off my shit-list by doing these three simple things:

  1. Stop putting free services or services I'm already paying for behind a paywall.
  2. Drop Kinect.
  3. Drop the price to $349 or less.
Then we can talk.

I still fail to see what was so bad about their original policies. I mean seriously, do you think you'll still be buying physical discs by the next generation of consoles? Everyone says choice matters but in this case who cares? Let's progress already, go all digital, and in the process figure out how to move on from archaic market policies and invent new ways to buy, share and enjoy media that fits this future.

Quit holding us back you whiners. Jesus.

I'll admit, I was never an Xbox gamer at heart because I never liked the Xbox but I wanted to try something different next gen and I was thinking about starting with the Xbox.. Something I would never do. After the first announcement, I'm glad I was never a fan in the first place because I would be just as heartbroken as the diehards were when they heard that abomination.

At this point, MS has shown their true colors and in this industry called the tech and entertainment industry, anything they can do.. Someone can do better. Microsoft isn't the only major player in the industry and there's a lot of people who have the resources to do the same thing or bring it up a notch to become the new trendsetter. I don't feel like I'm missing a thing from the Xone besides games... That's it.

They won't now. But in a couple years I think the price around $299 will be attractive. Owning both consoles at launch is not appealing to me. Most of the games are multiplatform, and the ones that are not multiplatform can be played a couple years down the road. (For super cheap!). Just comes down to the cost not being worth it if you already own the other competing console.

LOL, win back my heart? This is a box that plays video games right? Yikes. I like MS, I don't let myself get personally, emotionally attached to a company that provides me a luxury item. To this day, honestly, I don't know what people have against MS or EA or this one or that one. I'm a caveman...."Product good, me buy. Product bad, me don't buy." It must be exhausting to have to be emotionally attached to all your purchases, checking sales, checking specs, checking attach rates etc. I like games. I buy games. If a game I really want to play comes out on a console I don't have, I buy the console and PLAY THE GAME.

Price cut or kinectless version.
Already like some of the games.
If they keep a steady flow of non fps gamea ill probably bite some year.

An honest admittance that they fucked up and have written contracts, in stone, that they will all commit suicide before they try to force all those ridiculously absurd conditions.

Kinect must be able to be separated, as left in the box unconnected.
No online checks other than those I specify
Remove the effing paywalls for Netflix etc.
Get rid of all the retarded suits that are messing up their studios. Think one large mistake was not having a "gamer" involved in the decisions.

How about they do all that cool inventing and come up with all those great benefits, before they drop down the restrictions to make them happen. Not the other way around.

They would need to scrap:

- The name
- The hardware
- The software
- The Kinect
- The executives running Xbox
- The paywall
- The TV HDMI in
- The money hatting
- The 3 layer OS and whatever bloat it'll bring

I'm not even kidding. Microsoft really really fucked up.

What they need to do:

- Dedicated powerful processor for physics and animations.
- Simplistic GPU, very powerful but limited with it's shader's and texture detail. I want to force developers down the road of more interesting interactive games that focus on next-generation mechanics from physics to animations, while staving off the money drain that is chasing photo realistic graphics.
- An OS built around gaming. Not social. Not TV. But gaming.
- A controller with a mouse ball for FPS accuracy.
- Dedicated future support for a future Occulus Rift VR device.
- A dedicated OS level windows emulation box for playing old PC games.

You fail to see that digital copies cost a fuck ton more than a physical copies.
I'm not moving to all digital anytime soon.

Also, I can trade physical copies for other games or money.
If the gen after this one doesn't allow backwards compatibility then i'm screwed if I have to sell my console to buy the next one.

Quit generalising for everyone.

A free copy of FIFA 14 did it for me! Plus Dead Rising 3, Ryse and a great online service. For me it is better suited to my interests, Only major concern I have left is when will all the functions be available to us in Australia, things like the TV in functions I see taking a long time to implement.

Is this a joke post? I can't even tell anymore.

It will always be a hard sell for me, I've just been burned by the brand so much (4 RRODs, FIFA hacked) I let my Gold run out after 10 years this june, and I'm just not interested in what they are saying. The only thing they have I'm interested in is Halo, $399 bundled with Halo 5 would be very tempting.

Clearly Sony cared enough to mention it in a press conference that got the audience cheering, as well as those who decided to not support Microsoft for such decisions. All of their promises came with no benefit but instead came with lies, like how the cloud would give a 40x boost to games.

What they wanted was a DRM box. That's not a future I want.

They need to show that they truly have the superior online service again, just like they did with Live earlier this gen over PSN. Giving away a free game or two and giving us information on some damn good looking exclusives that are worth buying the system for would probably do it.

Make Kinect interesting. Make Halo 5 amazing.

They're so disinterested in Kinect that they have zero games built around it at launch. And yet they're force feeding it upon everyone because they claim it's an existential experience to use it while watching TV or Skype-ing. And thus they're now stuck with a more expensive box by 100 dollars, while also being significantly weaker. This time next year I bet we can buy an Xbox One without Kinect for at least 50 dollars less than PS4. I don't think they'll fail as epically as the Wii U has, but it's going to get demolished by the PS4.

Now and days new games go on sale all the time. I bought a brand new copy of Tomb Raider for $25 a month after it was released from amazon. I've already bought an Xbox one copy of TitanFall for $50 from amazon as well. There are deals everyday for games it's never been an issue. I can't be the only person that sees that.

I'm leaning heavily toward the PS4 this generation.

Several of the reasons I was doing so initially have been removed via Microsoft's many 180's (mostly around the DRM policy).

While hardware design is certainly part of the decision, looking back I've never actually owned the strongest hardware in a given generation, at least not since the Sega Master System days. So that's a factor, but not the determinate one.

Right now the biggest is the inclusion of Kinect in the box, and the associated price differential that drives. While related, it's actually two things:

  • Including Kinect will (MS hopes) lead to more Kinect features included in games. I hate Kinect and motion/gesture controls in general and do not want that, so I'm more inclined to support a system that does not feature it included.
  • The XBO costs $100 extra, presumably because of the inclusion of Kinect.
Also factors are: Sony's successful wooing of indies and generally more inclusive indie policy, and the fact that they have had a more consumer friendly set of policies all along. Regardless of the 180's, I've found myself less inclined to support MS on the basis of what they tried to do. You can argue this is unreasonable grudge holding, and I've found myself questioning whether it's really a valid reason. But the reality is, the opening ask for XBO was so bad it's made me almost instinctively hesitant to embrace the platform, even after the 180's.

If they drop Kinect and lower the price by $100, I would much more strongly consider the platform.

Don you don't work for Microsoft anymore let it go man.

Doesn't a free copy of FIFA14 still make the XBO more expensive than a PS4 w/ a paid copy of FIFA14?

Sounds like you were onboard already.

I'd be pretty stupid to ever trust them again. When the xbone reaches the end of it's lifespan, and Microsoft has gone back on every garbage policy, shown that they've gone the whole generation without declaring war on their consumers, and have hardware that won't fail biweekly I might buy one and go back through the catalog.

  • Drop Kinect/introduce non-Kinect SKU
  • Drop price
  • Get good exclusives/1st party games to rival Sony and Nintendo; stop the focus on established IP sequels and think of something new.
  • Bring everything but online MP out from behind the paywall
  • Include free games/rewards/discounts on Live more regularly and with a good value
In a nutshell, they'll have to stop being so anti consumer. Yeah the 180 was great, but all they did was return to the already anti-consumer policies of the 360. What they tried to do at first was unacceptable, now it's just shitty again.

I haven't had a problem with anything they've done. They've fixed the biggest problems developers have had with them in the past, they have a compelling platform with cool technology and features, and they've got the best looking lineup of games for the next year or two.

PS4 seems like a solid evolution of the PS3 without all the horrible hardware decisions, and hopefully the software side is better so the future is bright indeed.
