How did you come to post on GAF?

Well for the longest, I was a regular poster on the Cloudchaser boards, even a mod. CC eventually changed to Xengamers and I still remained a mod and semi-regular poster. Sometime after that I began lurking GAF--News seemingly hit this place faster than actual gaming sites, and theads such as "Videogame characters join the war on terror" were just pure hiliarity. I had pretty stopped posting on online forums all together but I still occasionally lurked here (agian for the quick news and hilarious threads), Xengamers around that time transformed into mobile gamign site MoDojo. . Somewhere along the way I was "inspired" to become a semi-reg post here and umm...yeah.

I forget. I posted at Squaregamer, then IGN, and somehow I ended up here. I managed to use the internet for about 4 years before I encountered a message board of any kind.

I too originally came from Cloudchaser, and after awhile a friend of mine linked me here and the rest is history! Of course, I don't really post much here, mostly lurking for news and funnys.

Well back in november 2002 I came to this forum through a link on another message board and I was like "Holy shit, this place kicks any other forums ass!" and then 1 1/2 years later I finally became a member.

I can't remember anymore, it was so long ago.

It's really getting a bit creepy now. I remember when I'd been here about a year and there was some topic about whether you'd still be posting on the forums in however many years time, and I said "I bloody hope not!"...but that was years and years ago now, and I don't see how it's going to stop! Maybe when I have a family, but there are people here getting married or having kids quite often, and they're still around.

I came sometime in late '99 to early 2000. I was just looking up random video game forums, and found this one to be the busiest. So I just kept coming back.

My boyfriend posts here so I learned about this place from him. Started visiting and reading the forums.. Eventually signed up for myself and started posting. :)

I think I came here (well, the older version of GAF) back in late 1996 or early 1997. There was GAF back in 1996, right? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I used to post at GameFAQs and the GIA and once GF got too stupid to stay at regularly and the GIA's forums got progressively more and more anti-Xbox before the site died (didn't bother going to Gameforms), i needed a place to get consistent news. I saw the plug for this place in an EGM and have been here for two years since then. I've mentioned before, but I generally use this place for news and other sites (like SA) for opinions and purchasing decisions, since popular opinions around here are a little jaded for my tastes (doesn't mean I hate the site, though)

I used to regularly browse Metroid Metal, and a couple of the users often linked to interesting or hilarious threads here. I signed up in February, and now visit every freaking day, at least twice (I don't sit at a computer all day at my job, like a lot of folks here do :P).

I barely post compared to most folks, though.

I posted at NN, then it went down and I was in limbo. Someone from chat (maybe FT) mentioned some news or game video that was posted here, and the rest, as they say, is history.

I don't remember... and now I can't find the f*ckin exit!!!!

;)

Actually I vaguely remember chatting with Doug after he started posting less and less on r.g.v.sega.... I think he suggested I come here....

:lol I remember when the GIA shut down, I sure did think that was an April Fool's joke. I rarely browsed the forum, but I wrote to the letters column at Gameforms often, and had mine printed ten or so times, right before it died off. I was sad when it did, it was such a slow and painful death.

I was confused (and a little hurt) when they did that, because the forum people had a lot of loyalty towards each other and it was fun being there during the slow times (hell, I had people remember me on other sites years after the fact)

I used to post/lurk on either OpN2000/PlanetN2000 back around '99 and 2000 (old-school Nintendo fanboy w00t!), and I'd been visiting IGN64 since probably '97 or '98. One day on PN2000 I read someone mentioning GAF, then saw the link on IGN, and I've been posting/lurking here since then. I was around Lemurs age when I first joined here...now I'm a full grown man, all thanks to GAF! :P

Yeah. I was here around 95/96, but didn't really start posting much until NGO went down.

I used to write letters to the GA letter column frequently back when that was updated... I knew of the forums but I wasn't there from the groundbreaking, so I didn't want to try to play catch up and try to fit in. I was too busy posting more frequently at other forums at the time, too.

Then, GA's Forum was viewable by member-only at some point in time, I forget why, so I said to hell with it and signed up anyway.

I'm pretty glad I held off on posting here until later. If I would have posted here the same way I did in ~2001, I'd probably be perma-banned.

I kicked over a magazine stand and started thrashing the newspapers when someone said, "you look like you could use a little GAF." They handed me their card and here I am.

I think from a link mandark posted in a chatroom, probably, then I was banned for a year or two for no reason = / . Then I was like "wow, I'm bored of all these fucking forums(truck related) and hit it up. It's engulfed me since.

I was reading a thread over a PA where Amirox was extolling the virtues of the PSP before the Japanese launch, and he provided a link to the JP PSP launch thread. I read through the forums, signed up and completely forgot about it until my account was approved a month later. This is only one of three forums that I visit regularly, and this one provides the most intriguing discussions by far.*

*This primarily relates to the OT.

One day Will came into the ndorks channel and was like "Hey guys I posted this rumor that Microsoft is buying Rare and giving Nintendo Azurik, and people are believing me! Come help me troll." and that was that. So at first I posted fake stuff, but after that I eventually starting reading the forum.

The punchline was that he was right!

Sometime during the summer of 04 a co-worker sometimes posted on here and was always lurking. He saw a thread about free magazine subscriptions and I signed up for Maxim and Stuff (I still get em, thank you GAF). I thought it was interesting and registered...two weeks later I was accepted after forgetting about it. I post sometimes, but mainly lurk. I actually have a lot more posts than I thought i did.

complicated, short version is a friend pointed me here, I lurked until my hatred for a particular poster built up enough that I signed up to make fun of them. I don't remember the details any more, too long ago.

I came here around the launch of Ps2, seemed like a nice place and to this day is still one of the (very) few places you can go and have a decent conversation (online).

I had actually been a member of a non video game message board (CLubSi.com) They were having a Dreamcast vs Ps2 topic in the "out there" section of the boards and there was too much fanboy crap so I started looking for some concrete info/comparisons, ended up here and have never looked back. ( well actually I'll pop in there like once a year to see if I'm still regestered)

Unlike pretty much everyone, I actually came in through the main site. :P That was way back in 1999...I think I was searching for Soul Calibur pics or something. :P I felt curious about ze message board so...

This guy i know from a retrogaming channel kept linking to funny threads from here. I lurked and lurked, and eventually joined

I first heard of it from reading yukihime.com, JackFrost's blog (which I heard about through tokyopia.com, which I heard about through gameforms.com, which I heard about through thegia.com. I have no recollection of how I first heard about thegia.com). He wrote something about the site being a mixture of very intelligent discussion and idiotic fanboy ranting, which sounded intriguing. Turned out to be pretty accurate.

I finally joined because Simon Carless was always crediting links to GAF, so I thought I'd check it out. I was posting in vain to the Gamespot forums, looking for coherent discussion. Believe it or not, GAF won.

THG?!! :lol

I've been lurking here for a LONGGG time--at least a year. But I haven't really started posting here until my e-boy, pjberri, got banned from Cloudchaser. At that point, the forum went from bad to straight out BORING. Even making fun of everybody had lost its luster. If I had to compare it to something, I'd compare it to an empty room with white walls and a dead cat in the corner. And since my original posse (it was like the Breakfast Club, but ON THE NET) bottomed out, there's nothing left for me over there. NOTHING!!! So now I'm here. It's strange, to post about stuff to people who don't know you. I hate getting ignored; I need an audience!!

Speaking of Homodojo, I've noticed that there are a LOT of vagrants from there over here... which is great. :crap:

Was on IGN around 2002, I heard a rumor about the game cube(pre-megaton) and was linked to the site. 1 month later, I started posting on this forum.

Back in 2001, I was reading a thread over at Xengamers and came across here.

P.S. CloudChasers kicked all kinds of ass. I miss it. :(

I think I came across a link browsing some Dreamcast/Nintendo sites in 2001/2002. I really don't remember. The first thread I remember is the Videogame Characters Help The Fight In Iraq Photoshop Thread. That was freaking great. Been hooked ever since.
