How did you come to post on GAF?

Unlike pretty much everyone, I actually came in through the main site. :P That was way back in 1999...I think I was searching for Soul Calibur pics or something. :P I felt curious about ze message board so...

I actually read the GA front page more (and quite often) before I signed on with the forums. Now I just forget to, somehow. :P

I posted at Penny-Arcade. Someone linked here for some reason. I didn't like how stupid the people at Penny-Arcade were, so I started posting here.

My ex-boyfriend, "mochi", is/was a frequent here from WAY back in the day. He's pretty much a lurker now though because he only has free email accounts. :-P

I started posting here in 1995. I wasn't a very active poster, never have been, but I was around.

The way I found GA? Webcrawler search 'gaming'! Booyah!!

I was posting over at the Katastrophe boards for some Playstation website. I forget the name. But between that and the NGO forums, I'd seen GAF mentioned a few times. I forget who it was, maybe The Rock or one of those other guys who posted at the Katastrophe boards. Anyway, I registered here back in like 97 or so, and the rest is history. It's been my main gaming forum since NGO shut down. This place was terrible back in the PS1 days. I mean for real, almost unreadable. A single forum chock full of the worst trolls this side of I don't know. But after NGO shut down, Pana and a number of NGO regs all transferred here. PEACE.

I dunno, but I've been here forever. Honestly, I can't remember what made me come here.
I think like, a loooong time ago I registered because I read a review that I liked and saw that they had a forum, so I was like, why not? But then I didn't use my account for the longest period of time, and went back to posting at Final Fantasy Online. But I got sick of that place, so I came back here because I think PS2 discussion interested me.

But I'll put it to you this way. When I started posting here, Lemurs was 8 or 9 years old. :lol

i was IGN member few years back when they hit us with subscription penalty for their site along with their message board when they were on the verge of shutting down. i got the hell out of there and switched!!!

Then i came across Gaming-age ezboard and then swtich to here when they shut down the ezboard. I can't recalled how i come across the name Gaming-Age Forums.

Ahhhh well, this is the best board i've encounterd. And still is! :D :D :D

I don't remember when and I don't remember how.

This isn't my first nick. I had one like 5 years ago. I hardly posted, and really I was a completely different person than I am now. This was back when ***, Futami, and Deadmeat still posted. I actually remember their nicks after all these years.

For some reason I tried logging in one day and I was banned. No explanation whatsoever. I hadn't done anything to deserve it. I wondered if someone had hacked my account and posted something awful, but this was back when the forum was locked to non-members, so I just left without knowing. Came across it about a year ago again, and chose a retarded nick due to a sudden lack of creativity and I was just planning on lurking mostly.

Edit: I think I was linked here from either opn2000.com or IGN.

I can't remember but now i've got a compulsory urge to lurk GAF. It was probably since I did checkup GA/Magicbox/DCTP for news before eventually finding the forum.

Wellington called me up on my phone and said "HEY MAN CHECK OUT THIS REFORMATTED FORUM" and me and my brother demi zoomed over to see that Wario64 was all posting about porn and deals and shit, and jokes about the weight of Shouta and Ferrio were thrown about. And demi and I, as we're brothers, we kinda nodded to each other and I registered. He couldn't, though, because he didn't meet the COPPA regulations.

Right afterwards, Wellington totally called up again and said "Wait, shit, that was a wrong number" and the rest is history.

:lol

Anyway, on another forum, someone was posting the sales data for each month. I was really interested to see how games sell, and I was linked to Gaming-Age for the source.

Yeah, I guess it was because of Sales-Age.

Olimario kept linking here from the IGNboards post-megaton, so i joined up. The board crashed, then rose from the ashes! The rest is history.

I think it was when the Next Generation boards died. Lurked for quite a while before posting here.

Same here, I always come to these threads looking for fellow wayward souls. I was utterly terrified of this place when I first started coming here. NGO was like a tranquil gaming utopia where the most radical of our members was problably Drensch (at the time).

This place when I first came here was utter chaos.

was lurkin as talisayNon on the 2003 GAF boards. Umm...actually got a few links to here from the GC IGN boards. Decided to post a video that raped my sister's bandwith; taped a fox video of a preview of the GBA SP. And been a regular ever since

I lurked here often, watching all of that "megaton" shit.

...but what really hooked me was the 2004 MLB season/playoffs threads. Such great and funny posts and quotes in there - I had to register so I could post in them.

So, I registered. Didn't get validated until the Yankees made their depressing choke, though, so I missed the quality baseball discussion. The sales threads and other such drama in Gaming kept me occupied until baseball started this year. :lol

I was looking for info about the Dreamcast before it launched and had seen links to Gaming-Age and the forum on another board.

Friend referral. Long ago under many different usernames....during *** and Terrapin battles and PSX / Saturn was hot. Anyone remember a psxkid?...or something. Or especially gigadent. A few of the hardcore PSX crowd.

P.S. CloudChasers kicked all kinds of ass. I miss it. :(

QFT. I had been wanting to come here for a while, and tried signing up a few times, but I my email was always banned or something. Eventually Tri talked to someone and got me in :D

I registered much later, but in terms of reading the forum regularly, I probably came here during the old GA vs Adam Doree/SegaWeb spats. I definitely remember reading the forums when Futami was still posting here around the PS2 launch and when the first GameCube info started coming out. I seem to recall the first shots of Rogue Squadron 2 were very well recieved. I also remember the joy of reading the GT3 screenshot threads in the 2000-2001 period.

I knew about the forums for years. Someone tipped me off that it was a good quick one-stop-shop for gaming news years and years ago (I'd say 98 or 99?). I only stopped by every few weeks when I was bored.

Then I somehow got hired by PGC, and in the spirit of helping out, I decided to do a daily roundup of various websites, in the interest of "if we can't get it first, at least we can make sure we report it and link to the original article/site ASAP". GAF was high on the list of good places to check for info we didn't get.

Eventually, I started reading more and more, and I lurked almost daily on the boards. About a year ago, my boredom and overall despair with life finally went deep enough for me to resign myself to posting something every now and then.

The only question is: how much lower can I go? ***? :D

A few years ago (2 maybe? 2.5? I have no idea. I think I came right around the time bjork and serafitia did, but they're both gone now so I can't ask them) GAF was recommended to me by good friend Jon Metts (AKA Jonnyboy117) from formerly of the Nformant and now of Planet GameCube fame.

The rest is sweet sweet history.

Mostly a lurker but I first visited around early 2001. I remember when GAF was on Ezboards and OT and Gaming were one. Someone on the ign forums posted a link here because some dude put up "ign insider only" screens of NFL2k2.

Hmmm, lemme see.

I was originally on NGO's forum--I was the moderator of the short-lived retrogaming forum.

When that went Tango Uniform, I posted mainly on boobies.com (AKA gameassault) until that went down, and then I've been on GAF ever since.

I stumbled here fairly recently, about a few months prior to this year's E3. It was my first time to go to E3 and I was furiously following the news. The mods are awsome on this forum. There seems to be an extreme lack of disruptive topics. I really don't know how they do it so well :)

Several months before GameCube launch. I was on PGC's IRC chat late in the morning (hm, so must've been during summer) and some guy told me to visit GA's forum. Link was his name in chat, wonder if that's the same Link we have here? So I started lurking like anyone else and when I realised I had things to say in certain threads, I registered (hooray!).

Funny, because I never enter IRC chats, only use IRC to pirate. I dunno, I'd rather not chat with strangers since I have all the chatting I need with MSN, but posting is fine (less random). Though I bet I could probably become addicted anyway :lol

I think GA is sorta known to be a 'smarter' forum, I guess like how GameFAQs would be known to be the forum you compare other crappy forums too when trying to illustrate just how bad this other forum is :lol

But also, I wouldn't say it's all the mods. I mean you make one mistake here like post an old topic, and there'll be 10-20 posts saying it's old bla bla bla until the mods can lock it :lol

EDIT: Double post, my bad!

I dont remember how i stumbled upon it but I decided to join because of the hilarious discussion s that were taking place here in the O.T. :)

Yeah, you were rather prominent on usenet. Marty too. That's another reason I stayed here, Marty was one of the few people I remembered from usenet that was on here.

I've gone from KiiLA to Duane to MechanizedDeath and now Pimpwerx. PEACE.

EDIT: Damn, reading the thread, I wonder how many NGO converts we got here. I know there was a mass exodus when their forums (the best ever) went belly-up. Fuck, NGO was the best gaming site ever...EVAR!!!!11

Hmm...hard to say why I came. I hung around nintendorks for quite some time, then sharpgaming. I guess I ended up here when those sites kept shifting and changing. Or maybe that was me. For ages i was just lurking here, just using the forum as a source of superspeed gaming news. Seriously, this place is FAST! I basically see it like all teh gaming websites all at once. Any news worth seeing in teh gaming community and it'll be here within, well, probably minutes. It's like I'm some evil Overlord, and you are all my minions, gathering information for me! Moo haha, and such.

Anyways, eventually, there's a slow news day, and you turn to the OT forum. And even more eventually, there's something that just screams for a response, so you register and post. Then it's all down hill from there.

Now get back to work.

Uh, some time around GC launch, I can't remember if it was before or after. Anyway, IGN closed their boards to non-insiders IIRC and so I scoured the internet for a gaming forum.
