I'm not installing a pirated version of XP.

I bought a Dell a while back with a bunch of preloaded programs already on the hard drive. Windows XP being one of those programs, obviously.

Now I wan to reformat, so I whipped out the XP cd that Dell supplied me with, but there's no CD key on it. I looked through all my boxes and manuals, but I can't find anything relating to my Windows XP CD key.

Is it possible I can just find out what CD key I'm using right now to make things easy for me, or do I have to call up Dell?

Has anyone been in a similar situation before??

On Dells, there should be a shiny reflective sticker that says Windows XP on it stuck to you CPU tower somewhere. Usually on the back or the bottom. It'll have your WinXP serial number on it.

Check the back of your tower. If not, you might have to call Dell and request it. They'll probably ask for your machine's serial number or something like that so they can identify your copy of XP.

There is a sticker on the computer with the Windows license key

To my experience… XP can be installed with the OEM disc without a key
