The hardware is great, and the Switch 1 was the most successful gaming system of all times. So in that sense, it's deserved.
With that being said, I hope more games are announced soon. Splatoon was a nice surprise but they need one more heavy hitter for 2025. And a lot of third party games which are most likely coming haven't been announced yet.

Slightly annoyed, but also somewhat vindicated and unsurprised.

On the one hand, it's really something to see so many core gamers with such low standards. They reveal a slew of years late inferior ports and less than a handful of next gen first party exclusives (or cross gen games that will essentially be unplayable on Switch 1) that are not out at launch save for Mario Kart.
Mario Kart World looks less exciting and less of a jump from MK8 that released on the Wii U 11 years ago compared to Sonic Crossroads from the previous All Stars title. And, it's 80 dollars. While I do believe that games themselves have to start being more profitable to sell, I'm also not fiending for anemic games to push the floor up to 80 bones tomorrow.

On top of that, they're seriously starting to cut in on physical games, which is shocking for Nintendo. And they revealed the console with as much effort and pizazz as a bowl of plain rice. And they didn't even give reviewers games or consoles to let people have any idea what they were getting before launch.

On the other, people are paying out the 450, paying out the 80 bucks for MKW and paying the online subscription fee en masse; as I said it would happen amidst all the performative whining about the price points for these games. So much for the cost of living crisis and "only spending money if it's worth it", neither apparently applies to gamers. And even if Nintendo gamers are currently the most devoted to the brand, I also think the PS5 and Xbox Series deserve even fewer sales than they have now, even with both lagging behind last gen sales rates.

But that's the key word: Rates. Are sales going to keep pace at this level? No. Will there be any significant churn to prohibit the Switch 2 selling more than or equal to the original Switch? No way of knowing yet.

Nintendo made some fumbles, but core gamer opinions don't mirror what Nintendo fanboys and the general audience are willing to buy.

I'm still waiting on more games to justify wanting to get one, and I think I'll just wait until the OLED version inevitably hits. I've got more than enough to play in the meantime.

Alright, so i am of the mind. There is another game for holiday. A game likely for Switch 1 & 2.

Since it is the 40th anniversary of Mario, and looking at what they did for the 35th anniversary w/ 3d. I believe the game is a HD2D collection of Super Mario Bros thru Super Mario World with some QoL enhancements.

This would honor Miyamoto as well as everyone who worked on Mario in the old days. And allow Nintendo to maximize sales of one last HUGE game for Switch 1 & 2.

It would allow 3d Mario to shine in 2026 to coincide with Super Mario movie 2 (World).

The other game I think about often, is based on recent stats, that behind Mario Kart 8D, Switch Sports is the second best selling game month over month. I believe Switch Sports 2 is likely coming sooner than later. If it was Switch 2 only, I could see that as well.

I saw someone float the idea of DragxDrive being a game within Switch Sports 2. Which actually would be fine with me. Even if the game was shallow, it would be a well thought out mini game.

Edit: Finally, I believe whatever it is, is the November game. I also believe COD is in November for Switch 2. Even if it is NOT Blops 7.
That sort of Mario remake would definitely have some potential. I could also see the Kirby Planet Robot remaster or Fire Emblem IV remake get dropped this year too. Of course both could be saved for 2026.

I do also think Blops 7 comes to Switch 2 at some point.

Well. The success is no surprise. And because of the popularity of the Switch, sales will be very front-loaded as millions will be eager to upgrade to the New one. It's only natural.

The enduring success of Switch 2 after the fervor wears off will be on the backs of brand new exclusive games.

They've gone for a long time without a proper Direct. The April Direct was deceptively, actually pretty minimal with brand new first-party games. It was a lot of Switch 2 Editions and Mario Kart which had already been shown in January. But we haven't gotten a pure General Direct not focused on new hardware since June 2024. And prior to that we hadn't gotten one since September 2023. So Nintendo's really been saving up some major announcements for this new hardware and didn't want to show off too much for the pre-launch Switch 2 Direct. Which makes sense, for April-June they want people to focus on the launch games.

I feel like we're due for like a really solid, big June Direct. There's so much unknown and so much known but not dated and detailed.

In terms of Nintendo-published games that April Direct announced:

Mario Kart World
Donkey Kong Bananza
Drag X Drive
Hyrule Warriors 3
Kirby Air Riders
The Duskbloods

All brand new games. It's hardly "minimal".

Also we got a pure General Direct in March of this year. It's not that long.

It's weird when you add in Mario kart, Metroid prime, etc Nintendo has a lot of new games coming this year, and not all of them have been announced, and the narrative is still, "but no games tho they need to step up." It's just stupid.

Exactly, Nintendo has announced 7 brand new Switch 2 games for 2025 and another for 2026. I'm sure they have more to show but they are not holding back.

MK was already shown in January. The rest are all B-tier, to be frank. Switch's first year was Zelda, Mario, Splatoon and Xenoblade.

Drag n Drive is at or below 1-2 Switch level of interest. Prolly less.

Kirby Air Riders is a sequel of a niche spin-off from 22 years ago. Cool, to be sure, but not an A-lister.

DK remains to be seen. So far it looks like a far less appealing Odyssey clone where you can break rocks and smash things.

Duskbloods is a multiplayer third-party game, it's not first-party. Fromsoft is making it. Nintendo just paid for exclusivity.

They need to announce more games, there's simply no question about that. It's clear from what they've shown so far that they've been deliberately holding back.

You could say pretty much exactly the same thing about the Switch reveal:

"BOTW and Mario Odyssey were already announced, Splatoon 1.5 looks less appealing, Xenoblade 2 is B tier and Fire Emblem Warriors is third party. Therefore the Switch reveal had minimal new games and Nintendo were holding back."

Except of course Nintendo weren't holding back then and they aren't now. The Switch 2 Direct in April showed off the vast majority of first party Switch 2 content coming in 2025. I agtee that they have to announce their 2026 lineup at some point (beyond what they already announced).

Nintendo didn't just pay for Duskbloods exclusivity, they are publishing it as a first party game outside Japan.

I do also think Blops 7 comes to Switch 2 at some point.
My only problem with Kirby Planet Robobot is how much Kirby are we getting in 6 months? Kirby in August, Kirby Air Riders, and Robobot? That seems like a lot.

I do agree with you on FE. Fire Emblem is coming this Fall. 100%. Either as a new game, or as an enhanced Switch 1 port. Nintendo literally shows Fire Emblem every day in the app lately. Maybe it is the long rumored FE4, maybe Engage Deluxe, or maybe 3 Houses Deluxe. Either way, I suspect we get than as the November game. Just for the record, I DO think it is an enhanced Deluxe game for 2025.

COD is definitely coming in some capacity in November. If it is Blops 7 or an older game depends on how long that team had a dev kit. Either way, i would be stunned if COD did not arrive in November.

Yes that make sense, they could just sit on the Kirby port until next year and use it as a filler game.

How many more Switch 1 games do you think the release annually? 4-5?

IMO, everything that releases on Switch 1 from here on out has a Switch 2 version.

Curious on everyone's thoughts

For me Switch 2 is huge upgrade over original Switch, it feels nice in my hands and I like the game I'm playing I'm looking forward what games will come out for it especially from Monolith Soft.

It was worth the money and happy its doing well sales wise.

Also next month this game comes out wish is I'm SUPER excited about..

I am still trying to remember which Nintemdo console launched with a tonne of Nintendo first party games................ Errr no still can't seem to remember.

Thanks for the visible votes so we all see who's gonna be super salty and trying to cope with all kinds of bs but(t)s for the next several years (you're voting in a poll about its crazy successful launch you clowns but you don't only see it as something that may eventually dwindle to overall less success than its predecessor - which on its own doesn't mean much as 3DS did way less than DS but still great - but also as outright having no future, really, especially you who has the clown tag already, due to another dumb Nintendo take at that) :messenger_tears_of_joy:

If you love Mario Kart it makes sense to get one, but other than that?!?
Makes as much sense as getting a Switch 1 months prior the Switch2.

Don't really care too much. As in, very neutral to it. Doesn't come as a surprise at least.

Eventually I'll get one too, just like I did with the first Switch, but still got that early enough to miss out on the OLED-model. Same with the Steam Deck, so never again. That is why I'm waiting.

They have a solid product, even if the unboxing was a bit underwhelming (felt a bit too much like opening a Switch OLED).

The main concern are the Game Key Cards, they need to address this situation quickly because this is going to backfire. This is not driving people towards buying Switch 2 games, but rather staying on Switch 1.
