I was wondering if anyone has ever had luck getting into concerts you really wanna see, even though you either didn't have the money or the show was 'sold out'.

To be specific, I'm currently on the road doing a promotional tour for Dr. Pepper (in Syracuse at the moment). We're going to be in Philadelphia for the entire month of May, and there are gonna be some great shows there, including Weezer, Decemberists, Kasabian, and many, many, many more I wanna check out. I know for sure that Weezer and Decemberists are sold out, but I MUST GO. REALLY. I MUST. Can't really spend $150 for tickets on Ebay though.

Anyone have a history of a) sneaking into shows or b) making friends with the venue to find a way in? I've found that if you have determination and a little creativity, there's always a way. Whether it's bargaining a little promotional wise, I dunno... but someone tell me there's HOPE.

You might be able to win tickets to the weezer show on myspace. I've only gotten into a show the day of for free once (and only because Ben Kweller is the nicest musician on the planet). I've gotten in free to other shows, but I did that in advance online.

goddamit, Griese!
prolly won't work because it sounds like the bands you wanna see are gonna be at smaller venues, but if you go to shows at like a Tweeter Center, you can find any security guard to sneak you in for like $10

try checking Craigs List, maybe some one there is selling some tickets to those shows, they tend to be a little more reasonable than ebay.

Would probably help if you had breasts.
If you don't have your own, perhaps you can borrow someone else's.

Well, I ended up getting into the Decemberists free last week because we met their manager in front of the venue about to set up. We explained our love for the band so he put us on the guestlist.

Tonight, however, is a different beast, as Weezer is playing the Electric Factory in Philly.... Tickets have been sold out as of 5 minutes of being on sale about a month ago. Anybody in Philly know the manager of the Electric Factory?

We're prolly just gonna head down there in a half hour and see what we can find out. Luckily, we got a girl with us this time. And a shit ton of Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper.

You were at the TLA for The Decemberists, rareside? I was there too, awesome show!

Yeah, it was a great show! I was definitely impressed. Only thing that could've made it better is Bachelor & The Bride (the song that got me into them), Billy Liar, or The Tain. As great bands do though, leave you wanting more...

I gave up on Weezer tonight :( We made phone calls to the radio station promo people, who had given all theirs out, but they gave us a real number to the Electric Factory (not that automated bullshit number they advertise), and the woman said the show had been sold out 12 times over.. WTF does that even mean? According to the Electric Factory's website, they hold about 2,500... and I'm seriously doubting they sold 12 times as many tickets. Anyways she was nice enough, she just couldn't get us tickets. And fuck the scalpers.

And Swoon, some of the shows you linked to look pretty good. What's up with the name of the venue? I don't usually see concerts at a church.

it's the basement of the church it's not really related, just an awesome space to see a show.

Thanks for the link, swoon. I just ordered tickets for this Friday (British Sea Power). $12.25 isn't bad at all. Should be awesome.
