How durable are vinyl records?

I have the Dark Side of the Moon (the recent rerelease) vinyl record, I have no means of listening to it however, just bought it for the heck of it since I'm a big fan of the album (got the SACD)... I just thought of the idea of hanging the actual record disk on the wall, think it would look pretty neat... Might not wanna do that though if it can potentially harm the recording (dust? friction with the wall?)... cause I might want to give it a listen if I get a decent turntable some day... How durable are these things? What are they susceptible to?

Hanging it on the wall isn't going to hurt it.

The main thing you want to avoid with vinyl is stacking it vertically, or having it near a heat source, because they will warp. Dust wise, even the grimiest records can be brought back to health with products as long as the records don't have deep scratches in them.

Just make sure it's out of the sun, if putting it on your wall is your plan for it. I don't know what you're so worried about to be honest, it's not like it's exactly a difficult album to find on LP. They probably have 20 copies for $2 a piece at your local music store.

By the way, you can get it properly mounted (this is usually used for picture discs) if you like. Probably safer.

I was thinking of maybe putting it in a nice wood & glass frame, if I ever had some money to spare, which I rarely do these days.

I think it goes for 15 pounds on Amazon.co.uk, not a big sum of money by any means, but I'd still like not to have to rebuy it.
