How fast can you type? (test inside)

Test: Fishing in Finland
Gross Speed: 77 WPM
Errors: 7 Words
Net Speed: 75 WPM
Accuracy: 97%

I never took to the formal training, and I have a very haphazard style of typing, so I'm pretty content with this. I think my sole weakness is the fact that I don't use my pinky for almost anything. Damn useless appendages.

96 wpm
94% accuracy.

I get screwed up when I make mistakes on tests like these. I'm often going too fast to want to correct it, but I always think to correct it as well. So, I'm wondering if it's a good idea, and end up burning too much time in the process.

To those who get > 100 - <3

This is pointless because you can't backspace and correct errors like you would in real life.

~88WPM.

You can backspace while within in a word, but it gets locked once you space out of it.

Easily beaten by the top people on the ranking table, though.

Pathetic, I know :(

I kept getting messed up as I always backspace right after a mistake, and in some cases the thing kept going, so I fucked up. Either way, a child score :(

You're not supposed to be able to backspace. Errors factors into the calculation of WPM, in the typing class i tooked ages ago anyway.

What's really throwing me is their use of commas and capital letters in the stuff.

I mean, I go by the rule that commas don't precede ands... but they're using the rule that it does.

From what I've learnt, either is correct; just as long as you're consistent about it.

Also, it's more difficult to correct yourself when you're not looking at your own text... actually that's not even that bad, the real bad thing is you're focusing on someone else's text.

Typing in forums and what not, I can probably sustain 70+ WPM (normal typing without the weird lack of editing rules)... which is to be expected when you're a touch typer... but when copying like in those tests, my typing speed slows down quite a lot due to the mentioned problems.

OTOH, I can't actually think that in coherent sentences that fast, so it kinda evens out.

BTW; I scored about 63WPM net speed... on a 3 minute strategic alliances test. Maybe if I try again...

I'm feeling slightly crippled by the new keyboard on my work machine (a tiny little Dell thing rather than my preferred MS natural keyboard). A mere 83WPM, 100% accuracy.

I am currently still adapting to this laptop keyboard one month into the school year, and for some reason it is really bad as of late. I find myself missing keys, typing the same letter twice in a word...it's frustrating. Because of the way this test works, I made too many mistakes to score well, and when I instinctively went to correct them I lost time.

The lack of backspace hurt me a couple times, since I would go ahead and hit it and waste time realizing the test disabled it.

That's about on par with what I get on most tests though.
