How important are handshakes to first impressions?

I just had my first kickboxing class at my new gym, but when I first met the owner he came in hard and fast with a surprise handshake so I couldn't prepare myself. Now I'm worried he already has me pegged as a pushover beta because my handshake was weak/kinda weird. Is this something I should be worried about?

If you're not a pansy beta--and you know this for a fact--the obvious play is to approach the owner before your next class and give him an assertive man's handshake.

I have a plate and 5 titanium screws in my right hand.

I hate mother fuckers who have to squeeze your hand as hard as they can.

Also, I'm pretty sure you need to challenge him to a kick boxing match and after you win you'll need to mount him to change his opinion of you. I saw it on Dr. Phil today.

I'm just going to pretend it never happened I think. Seriously though it was a weak shake, the kind that would have doomed me if I were in prison.

Depends.

There's a girl at my job that says she hates it when people don't shake her hand upon meeting for the first time. She also hates being hugged, creates a bad first impression.

I'm impartial to it. Handshakes do break up the awkwardness of meeting someone at first but I don't think any less of them if they don't shake my hand.

Just don't be a noodler and everything will be ok. Nothing leaves a bad impression like someone who couldn't even put some grip on their handshake.

Morons who think they have to crush people's hands to prove their manliness are far worse than limpers.

Have you ever went in for a handshake and when you grab their hand it goes completely limp? Its so awkward and horrible, like youre shaking a wet noodle. I'd rather someone try to crush my hand.

Had some guy who had to of be 100+ pounds more, a full foot taller at least, do this to me. It's like dude, you're hand is at least 2x the size of mine.

I think I'll give weak handshakes on purpose since I am confident in my male gender identity and don't need to get validation from others by doing a meaningless action in a "masculine" manner.

Very.

Eye contact is more important. You're instructor probably just wanted you to know who was boss by coming in surprisingly fast. ;-)

Shaking hands is fucking disgusting.

For example, I always play with my sweaty balls and don't wash them.

I always give a 'You just touched my ball juices' smile with a limp noodle shake so the wanna be alphas can squeeze that juice into their pores.

Ahahahahhahahahha!... you made me laugh out loud.... eew... hahahahaha.

Multi-quote: how's that work?

I prefer to judge those that think a handshake says anything about someones character or ethic.

so not very important.

I've only had one guy do this to me. At least he's equal opportunity, I guess? I decided though that I'm gonna tell him off if he ever does it to me again.

I don't like shaking hands but I think I've found the proper amount of strength to use to say "I am not a weak sissy and I also won't break your fingers in an attempt to look strong."

Did you limp noodle shake his hand?

Beta

this or the I WILL CRUSH YOU handshake is equal levels of terrible. actually the overly strong one is worse. this person will always be the asshole that overtalks people in discussions using irrelevant shit.

As someone who interviews candidates, yes, a weak handshake is tough to come back from.

Edit: The crushing handshakes are also terrible but less common.
