How long do mixed drinks keep?

I'm thinking of mixing up a gallon of Jamaican Cabdriver (coconut rum, orange juice, cranberry juice) for Friday night, and want to know how long it'd keep--if there's leftovers, that is.

goddamit, Griese!
it'll be fine, just so long as it's covered.

if it's in any kind of container that has a lid, it will be perfectly fine.

Fantastic! I wasn't sure if the combination of juices and alcohol would cut down on the keep date of any of it with a reaction. But that's very nice indeed.

It probably was, until I answered his dumb question with a witty reply. Now we have but the seed of a future "im drnuk" thread!

Forever if it's covered.

am i crazy or was this thread originally a completely different topic?

I had the other one deleted--didn't see the need to have two question threads on the front page.

And no, not a drunk thread. :p I drink in moderation.

I can understand mixed alcohols, but if there's juice, wouldn't that attract bacteria? Then again the alcohol would probably kill them but then wouldn't you be drinking a lot of dead bacteria?

Forever if its frozen. Then again I've never had reason to have large quantity of mixed drinks sitting around for more than a day. There's just something conceptually wrong with that :)

If anything, the alcohol will kill off or inhibit bacteria/fungi. If you didn't know, 70% ethanol solution (of course this isn't even close to 70%) is often used as an antiseptic. Also, that combination of cranberry and orange juices seems pretty acidic, although that won't totally stop bacterial growth. Why not play it safe and keep it in the fridge for the same length of time you would keep an opened container of orange juice.

Because truly playing it safe would be drinking it all and posting on GAF with pictures.

Ditto when it comes to mixed drinks forever = <8 hours
I mean if I'm trying to get some hunch punch or something like that.

Dude, seriously, if you have leftovers that is clearly a sign you don't have enough friends.

I... I don't comprehend this "leftovers" thing... could someone clue me in? Is it like with food where if you don't finish what you have, you save some for later? Why in GOD'S NAME would one want to NOT drink all available liquor in sight? There's a war on, you know!
