How low can GAF go?

With the upcoming launch of Xbox360, PS3, and Revolution the gaming forum has obviously degenerated to Gamefaq like levels. I haven't been on these forums for very long and I am wondering if this is the worst it has been at GAF or is this a walk in the park next to the Dreamcast launch and afterwards?

Stay in the OT and everything is fine.

That was always the plan from the getgo, I am just wondering how low those degenerates can go.

I love how people in there talk about how gaming is getting more mature and all that other garbage and yet they act like fucking retarded elementary children when it comes to their system loyalties. Gaming will always remain the domain of fat nerds as far as I am concerned. Less fat and less nerdy people just try and rationalize their childish habit so that they can feel better about themselves.

The rapid deterioration of Sega in the console market place was nothing and always will be nothing compared to the first E3 with GameCube, Xbox and PS2. That was the worst I've ever seen the forum

OMG HALO IS TEH SLIDESHOW SMAHS BROS KILLER APP PS2 IS DUN 4!

shouldn't this be in the gaming forums?

You can't have a rational discussion there and I would not trust any answer they gave me.

Just imagine the idiocy that would result if I started this thread there. I don't want to add to the problem.

Man, saying GameFAQs level is so very harsh.

I hadn't gone there for a while, and then today I needed help with a secret in a game that wasn't in the FAQs yet (new game) and like... half the threads were roleplaying threads, and "type your favorite characters name with your elbows" (yes, seriously) and, oh god...the furries (the game was Sly 3, so). I had to wade through 8 pages of that crap before I found a thread with the answer I was looking for.

So, clearly, "GameFAQs level" is very mean and you should take that back. :(

Considering that the same people can bait the same retarded fans of various consoles with the same shit over and over again I don't think there is a term to properly describe how low the GAF can be.

How many other people are like me and stay mostly in the OT, get curious and check out the gaming side, see its full of barbarians, and come back into the lovely paradise that is the OT?

*raises hand*

I wouldn't mind a place to discuss games in a rational manner, but unfortunately no such place exists on the planet Earth.

Way to be melodramatic. The gaming forum here is probably one of the best on the net. Sure there's biases, but how couldn't there be? You'll get used to it, little guy.

The gaming forum can be good for threads that discuss specific games, if those games are already out and people are discussing strategies instead of criticizing screenshots. That's about the only reason I ever post there.

This isn't NEARLY as bad as it was even during E3... stop being a drama queen.

Just imagine how things will be after the Xbox360 launches (good or bad)?

GAF always crests to different degress during: E3, Other Game Shows, Console Launches, Highly Heralded Title Launches, that's just how it is.

I dunno if it's my memory playing tricks on me or not, but the launch of the GC and Xbox made this place much, much worse than it is now. (Cool8man, StarkyLuv, etc.)

we've come a long way, baby.

That includes you, right? Unless you visited something called "Gaming Age" seeking for intellectual non video gaming related discussions.

The quality of posting on OT and GF is about the same anyways. There's interesting stuff and idiocy on both sides. A lot of both on both sides.

I've always wanted to get a T-shirt that "Gamers where cooler when only nerds did it." mainstream has really ruined gaming.

Yep. People just have a tendency to dwell on the negative. We have alot of great posts and alot of great posters on the Gaming side...and then we have some really asinine stuff that shouldn't be allowed detract from the fact. Pety, stupid console wars will always exist. If you can't deal with it, then you really don't belong on such a forum.

The DC era was certainly worse.

People can complain about the moderation here being unfair or whatnot, but look at the Other Possible Alternative-- it's far worse. It's nothing but outright namecalling and very hard to read anyting worthwhile there, other than for entertainment value. The folks who were banned from here were banned for good reason, it appears.

I suspect alot of the people contributing to the whiny shit are the same said nerds. Gamers haven't changed that much, there's just alot more of them and they have parents that pay broadband bills.

No the probelm is that the hardcore gamers from "back in the day" are now in their twenties but still acting like they're in the back of a schoolyward.

Definitely includes me. I realize gaming is still a nerdy hobby and I came here originally to find a forum to discuss games as most of my friends IRL have given up the hobby. I actually was impressed by the writing of some of the posters when I first came here. I think I discovered the OT during the NBA playoffs, because I was also looking for a forum on sports (ESPN is the garbage pit of the internet). Since then I have steadily spent more time in the OT and have become more annoyed by the fanboys. They have probably always been there, but for whatever reason my patience with them has run out.

I agree that there is definitely some idiocy here too such as 'where do I find erotic literature', 'a bear just ate my balls should I go to the hospital or post on GAF until I die?', and endless posts on the religious significance of NFL quarterbacks to name a few. But the overall quality and intelligence is definitely higher at the OT imho.*

* Does not include the times when religion and politics come into question. Then this place gets as low as the gaming forum.

Last year's E3 had one of the most. . . disgusting moments I've ever seen in the gaming forum.

When Nintendo revealed the "mature" Legend of Zelda, the N-fans on the forum were going crazy. Seriously, when I was reading their posts I pictured them jumping up and down in their bedrooms screaming and shedding tears of joy.

Did anyone ever see the videos of the Nintendo fans jumping up and cheering at this Nintendo conference? Yeah, this forum had some of those.

Anyway, the Gaming Forum still rocks. It is still the best place for gaming news, and there are some quality discussions from time to time.

I dunno, this place is pretty wicked, sure we can all get a little out of hand sometimes, and there is a lot of arguements about everything...but think about how it is now, and then think about how arguements go on everyother gaming board...

" Y r u all such faggots?!?!?!?!?!11one!!?11??? dis game pwns ur ass!! wmg stfu retards try 2 b kool and teh awsumness wil be seen 2 u. FUCKING FAGGOT LOLOLOLOLOLOL ROFLFLAZ HAHAHA GAY ! YOUR GAY HOMO LOLZORZ"

im sorry you all had to see that :(

People who say this need to go to Gamefaqs for a reminder of how terrible it really is there.

Gaming forum is best for gaming news. The number of contributors with access to information is great.

The worst part is the damage control that comes after each peice of news comes out. But when the groups stick to their own threads, its actually pretty nice there.
