How much are you anticipating House of the Dragon on HBO later this year?

It still blows my mind how you can go from the amazing seasons 1-4 to the absolute shit show of 5-8. God it pisses me off just thinking about how much potential was wasted on this show. Will not be watching new show unless there is an overwhelming consensus that this new show is right up there with 1-4 of GoT.

The original series went downhill pretty fast when they started to deviate from the source material (I was already pretty bothered by the second season, they were already doing important book characters so dirty at that point), what they did to Stannis was embarrassing, after that I only comeback to watch the final season. I knew it was going to suck but they still managed to surprise me with how ridiculous that ending was.

At this point I only care about the books. The books are so damn good, I wish that I didn't care about them given all the wait but I still do.

Dunk and Egg books are great but I just couldn't get into Fire & Blood at all, it feels off as if not written by the same author and wasn't nearly as engrossing as The Silmarillion (which I assume it was inspired by).

zero interest. then last season of GoT killed my interest in all things involving it.

But even if it had not, I hate prequels.

I like dragons so I'll watch it, but there better be a good amount of dragons in it ripping people to shreds and spewing fire everywhere.

Unfortunately, I think the fact that we already know who lives and who dies, and who ends up on the Iron Throne at the end, is going to take all the suspense and tension out of this new show. Imagine if, when GoT had first aired, it had already been common knowledge that Daenerys, Robb, Stannis, as well as most of the other Starks and Lannisters, would all die and that Bran would become king at the end. Even for someone who hadn’t read the books, there was no way they would’ve been able to avoid spoilers during all these years. GoT (and ASoIaF in general) wouldn’t have been half as fun without all the theories that people came up with over the years. But there won’t be any of these theories for House of the Dragon, because we already know all the major deaths, reveals and betrayals that will occur (at least in broad strokes).

The only way to get around that would’ve been either a prequel that takes place far enough in the past that we simply don’t have enough information about what happened, or a sequel that takes place after the events of GoT.

Or (and this option is a personal favorite of mine), they could‘ve done an alternate universe take of GOT, taking place in the same time period and with the same characters as the original series, but under radically different circumstances. For example, a series that takes place in a universe where Rhaegar defeated Robert during the rebellion, the Targaryens managed to keep the throne, and Jon and Daenerys would‘ve grown up as a prince and princess, alongside Rhaegar‘s other children and Viserys. The upsides of this would be that such a show would have most of the characters people are already familiar with (though with different actors of course), but within a completely different story. And unlike with House of the Dragon (or even GoT for the first five seasons), no one would have any idea what‘s going to happen. It would be a totally fresh experience for everyone, even book readers and ASoIaF nerds, since they wouldn’t know who lives, who dies, who betrays whom or who ends up on the throne at the end. No prequel show could ever match the hype for something like this.

George is involved, so I will watch, but I doubt can watch more than a few episodes judging by the cast. They should have used new talent rather than the likes of Matt Smith

Many “Whelps”! Handle It!
After the final season of GoT, the lackluster casting (add me to the list of people who really don't care for Smith as the first example), and the knowledge of how it will ultimately end (I read the supplementals and poured through the official wiki/app), I have zero interest. I don't even intend on watching it unless it gets rave and I mean rave reviews.
