Roughly $100 after one day of work to help a friend. I quit my job of two years in October 2003, went to school, and haven't looked for a job since. But my bank account is shrinking, and I'm beginning to think I'll need to go back, even with a full load at school.

Your law degree will pay dividends at some point-- when in doubt, just pull a John Edwards! :D

What's the matter with how John Edwards made a living??

Made about $8000 selling crap on ebay. Easiest job ever. I'm starting a real job next week and I'll be pulling in a lot more money.

I don't understand why what he said makes him a bad person.

Personally, I think that discussing what you make is tacky, period. But, if you happen to end up in a conversation about earnings with someone who clearly isn't in the same bracket, withholding comment is probably the polite thing to do.

And yeah, I'm a little surprised at the incomes in this thread...but then again, they are probably consistent with younger people working part-time while in school.

Agreed. Does that make me a dickface too?

Plus the fact that the American middle class is dying and making the income gap even larger between rich and poor.

Aw fuck you dude. Because I won't discuss how much I make and would be surprised by the fact that many people posting aren't making 20K makes me a dick face.

What exactly is polite about SAYING that you make more than everyone else and then SAYING that everyone makes "so little"? I have the upmost respect for anyone who chooses to not post in this thread because of these reasons, but to actually come out like Pheonix did defeats the entire fucking purpose, doesn't it?

At any rate, my first post just meant to acknowledge that I thought that was a "dickface" thing to say. The second was just me being a dickface to -jinx-. ;)

Did I say I made more than everyone? No. Did I claim surprise in that some people here made so little? Yes. So just shut the fuck up.

Not "everyone", sorry. Ignatz Mouse sure makes a fair amount! Rather, something to the effect of "I make such and such an amount of money that to post it would be insulting to this thread, so I'll just acknowledge the fact that I make as much as that". The posts that I replied to above defend someone who just steers clear of the thread altogether, but your post was just insulting, as was my point.

For what it's worth, I'll apologize for calling you a dickface. That obviously wasn't necessary. :)

Learn reading comprehension before you start assuming that I am insulting anyone. There were certain people that posted above me that I assumed made more - genius.

I continued to explain myself more above in an edit, as if you don't know exactly what I mean. Please reply to that.

I made enough that my backlog of unopened videogames and DVD's is probably more than some of the active library's of some other folks.

I think the problem for some people might be that he did not, in fact, withhold comment.

Since it wouldn't be the highest number I've seen posted already it wouldn't be "insulting" to the thread. If I wanted to insult anyone I would go about it a different way altogether. Like perhaps with a "lol".

Phoenix I just went back and read your first post.... it could be construed as insulting... as could a few of your responses... admit that much, clarify that the initial post wasn't meant to be insulting, apologize if necessary move the fuck on.

This is true, this is the internet though. A thread like this is like a big dick contest though. You can never tell if another is telling the truth without proof. I can prove my dividends. I suspect some others might be stretching the truth a little bit though

Good enough.

The initial post wasn't intended to be insulting though some may have construed it as such. If you were offended or insulted, I apologize. If you don't know me, you don't know that I could care less how much money you make at your job as your happiness is what is most important. No point making a lot if you're pissed off all the time.

Enough that I won't discuss it. Didn't realize that some people here made so little.

That's not insulting. My response was going to be quite similar. I don't discuss my salary to anyone really, other than accountants and what not.

It isn't and wasn't intended that way, but since some people felt insulted - better to apologize to them and move on.

Still surprised by the salaries I've been reading. Some of the posts I've read from some of these posters suggests they have a great understanding of various issues and deserve to be in a better paying (and managerial) position than their salary suggests.

It's 'cause the GAF crowd is still largely in college. I was making about $6k a year as an intern, right in-line with most people here.

What sucks is that I got over a third of my salary taxed. I am single and don't own any property, will I get anything good back?

72K from my job, another 8K in rental income, and another 53K in equity from my 2 properties (although you can't really count this as income until I sell or refi). I'm also in my late 20s which would make me about 10 yrs older than most GAffers. Word of advice for you guys, keep your credit clean and buy a home as soon as you can afford the mortgage.

I made a little less then that last summer and I only got like 300 back so I wouldn't expect too much more.

And if you ever have the opportunity to pick up rental property - DO IT. Don't put it off. Its like printing money.

$AU7,910

Still parentally supported (because they exceed the assets limit that the government has for the student income scheme) (that's only supposed to cover my university expenses, but I manage to save about $30-50 of it each week), also had a bonus from doing some extra administrative work for them, and was given about $600 all up from relatives for my 21st.

On the lookout for a job again, just about to move out of home for my final year of university.

I think what makes this thread surprising is that as far as hobbies go, compulsive/excessive videogame playing is a rather expensive one.

And to make my post completely irrelevant; I made about 1,000 dollars working at Chelsea Piers over the summer. Still in highschool.

I'm also pretty interested in what Wario64 does.

Exactly. This is the first year of my rental property and with every passing year, not only does my equity go up but I can also charge more for rent.

I didn't make $6k this year. I got roughly $12k taxed and I want to know how much I will get back (roughly)

You know, not to derail this topic, but how do you start out with that sort of thing? I have a fairly decent amount of money saved up, and my parents and brother suggested the same thing to me over Xmas.

$79,484k was really hoping for 80k (contract employee) sad to miss my goal by so little:( ah, such is life. Tho I only work 9 months a year, so I can't complain, too much anyways.

Agreed with Phoenix and Chums above. BUY A HOUSE ASAP. Wellington, thats the only way you will EVER see a good chunk of your tax money back. Well, that or having kids. Though, I'd imagine kids are more expensive then any tax credit they provide.

ETA Fennec, I plan on turning my current house into a rental property within five years. as it is now, what I could get for it in rent, would just cover the mortgage. Tho the mortgage is fixed and will never increase. So in a few years, as rents go up I will be able to rent it for profit. Also, by then I will have enough equity in the house to borrow against and use for a down payment for a second house that I can live in. Rinse, repeat. Sell all properties when I retire and move to the beach in mexico :D

I'd probably look into buying a house to live in (and eliminating all credit card debt) before trying to get a rental propety. Renting a place is thorwing away money IMHO. That's just me tho, Im sure others will differ in opinsions. And I'd love to hear them! whee

How much money did you lay out in the beginning, out of curiosity? For the record I'm totally debt free -- although I don't have much credit to my name as I don't even own a credit card.
