How much do you pay for cable/satellite?

I am moving into an apartment Saturday, so I am getting all the services turned on. I was looking at cable/internet. But my complex uses some jacked up company called, "TVMax". The internet is only 1.5 up/down which is 30 bucks a month. Not that much of a concern, though going from 5 to 1.5 is going to be a shock.

But for the Digital Cable package, it is 44.99 a month!!!! Now I am getting 197 stations, I will only watch like 40 of them, if I ever feel like watching "ShopNBC", atleast I have the option, lol. I am thinking of not getting cable at all, but ESPN/Speed Channel/Discovery OWN me.

Is 44.99 too much for cable? On top of that, I have the 30 bucks for internet, so close to 80 bucks a month for cable/internet. Is that too much? BTW, this crappy company doesn't even offer HDTV cable yet.

100 bucks a month for cable internet and basic cable (~70 channels) here in Madison WI. Cable monopolies can suck my dick.

Holy Moly!!!! basic cable+Internet is 100 bucks up there? I better stop my complaining.

We pay about $110 a month for both digital cable and the cable modem (4mbit/356kbps) through Comcast.

I want to switch to DirecTV for NFL sunday ticket =/ Comcast digital cable has been great though.

I'm paying about $135. That includes 3 cable boxes (one is high definition), all the premium channels (which is 44 movie channels!), HD service on the one box, plus cable internet service. Not too bad, considering the Internet service and especially the money I save using Vonage VOIP instead of Verizon.

Zero for cable/satellite. I don't watch enough tv to justify spending $50+ per month on something I'll barely use. I'll just get my HDTV over the air, thx. :) I do spend $40 per month for cable internet, though.

I was forced to get cable at my last place cuz I couldn't get a good line of sight for satellite. Thankfully, it was only for a year. I couldn't stand it for both quality and quantity. The digital cable stuff is a complete joke. When I first was getting it, I thought everything would be digital. Only select channels and basically none of the main stuff you get with regular cable is digital. So you get like 20 stations in digital while everythign else is the same as if you didn't have digital cable at all. Then there is the selection of channels in comparison to satellite and you end up getting less channels and paying more. I will never go with cable again because it costs more, with less channels, and is worse in quality.

Well, I am in the same boat. I wanted DirecTV so I can get NFL network. But there is no way I could get it because of the way my apt. faces.

We pay $92.95 CAD (about $75 US) a month (plus taxes) for a digital cable and broadband internet package here.

I'm not sure what our official internet speed is supposed to be, but from my experiences using it, the maximum seems to be about 300 KB/s down and 70 KB/s up.

I get NFL Network on digital cable, unless you meant NFL Ticket.

Nope...only a handful of cable companies have NFL Network. None in my area have it.

I work for a Digital Television, Telephone and Broadband company and as an employee i am entitled to the complete DTV line up, telephone line rental and 2MB Broadband for free... FRRREEEEEEEEEEE! ( istarted here on Sept 11th 2001 - random fact for ya'll)

Sadly, University is over and I must abandon this place in search of pastures new. But im sure we'll keep the 2mb Broadband.
