How much does your 360 crash?

I'm kind of bummed that my 360 has crashed like 3 or 4 times since I got it.
Most of them have been in Ridge Racer, at the end of a race, when either the screen goes black and the 360 dashboard slows down to 1 frame every 5 secs, or the auto save locks up.

Do other people have problems like this or may I have a hardware issue?

One crash on Gotham when I pressed the Dashboard button as it was loading my profile. Apart from that, I haven't had any problems at all

Once since launch. I've had it on 12-15 hours a few times now without a problem. It locked up in Need for Speed one time. That has been it so far.

My 360 (pre launch press model) crashed all the time during the first 2 days I had it. It was overheating like crazy and I had to put a big fan behind it.
Then I forgot to plug the fan, and lo and behold, the 360 wasn't overheating anymore. I guess there was too much thermal compound or something like that.
Since then I did not have even a single crash.
Jonny, it could be a hard drive problem if it crashes at the auto save like this.
Edit for Cahill: NFS has a known crash when you swap cars.

I've been playing Ridge Racer all day (and many hours for the past few days), and (knock on wood) everything has been going fine.

The only time my 360 has crashed was the day I got it, and it just locked up on PGR3.

I'm hoping everything keeps going along smoothly; today I noticed a high-pitched tone coming out of it occasionally during times when I think it's loading or streaming something. Then again, I think I may have heard that before and just never noticed it paternally.

You're in Japan though, right Jonny? Can't you take it back for a replacement? I'm sure you could find a store with one or two left, if you looked hard enough. ;) Or is it a press unit?

Mine hasn't crashed, i've seen some in the office do it running in really hot rooms with lots of other equipment.

The thing is a space heater, make sure its properly vented

about 3 times since I've had it. Twice playing Madden, once playing PDZ.

But that was around the first week owning it. Now it runs fine. Kind of like a new car, you gotta break it in I guess.

I was playing Madden once and the controllers froze, but the ref whistled me for the delay of game and they worked again. That's the only instance of mine not working I have experienced so far.

not once.. yet

played pdz (30+ hours), kameo (15 hours) and ridge racer (5 hours) + a lot of xb live arcade games for several hours

Once when playing NFS: MW. I went to the backroom of the parts dealer, and it froze up. Since then, no problems and my system has remained relatively cool.

i can actually get it to lock up if i want... i just have to be playing PDZ and in my friends list or viewing a friends profile etc, when i get disconnected from LIVE... lockup is almost 100% guaranteed...

though i can just turn off/on again with the mini remote...

Mine has just been picked up from DHL. I had an error code on startup 3 times (lower right hand quarter of ring of light was res). More worrisome is that fact that about half the time I turned it on it powered up, but no video or audio at all, and the power needed to be cycled to get it back up, sometimes more than once.

The rep told me to send my power supply but there was no way it would fit in the box they sent me. WTF?

I love this console but the quality is very poor. I typically am one of those people who think the internet makes supposed problems muchy bigger then they are but dman, the 360 seems legitimately bad in this regard.

Hey Blim...

Thanks for the heads up. *tips hat* I was in the middle of a race though when it happened. Freaked me out too cause 3 hours after getting my original 360 I was in NFS when the screen went black and the system froze. I powered it off/on to find I had a $400 paper weight with some nice red lights.

Not a single crash or lockup. I've played 6 launch titles, beaten 2, and a ton of arcade games.

No problems.

Once...when my 3G iPod ran out of power while I was listening to custom soundtracks. It only occurred once though. Since then, the music stops but the console doesn't lock up.

Twice. One when I was messing around with BC, so that was an understandable crash. A few days ago I went to open up my HUD menu, where it popped up, but no words came out, and I couldn't minimize it, so I shut it off. No 'in game crash' yet.

No lock-ups here, but I did have some weird shit happening when my wireless batteries got low. I got stuck in this sub-menu on Media Center. I could move around the menu items, but could not slect or go back and of course the controller would shut-off every couple minutes. Replaced batteries and all was fine.

I think I had one lock-up. Beyond that, it's been a very smooth experience. Lately, I've been playing a lot of RR6 and haven't experienced any issues with it.

Mine locked up once or twice in the first week, but since then I stopped trying to access my friends list during load screens and I haven't had any problems at all.

I must've gotten God's 360 somehow. It doesn't crash. It doesn't overheat. It isn't loud. It doesn't scratch discs. I connect to Live and my computer fine. Shrug.

Oh man, you're screwed now. :D
