How old is too old for Pokemon?

The last and only Pokemon game I ever played was the Blue version for Gameboy in 1998. It's been 8 years, but I intend on trying Diamond/Pearl if the games are good.

As long as you're having fun, play whatever the hell you want...

... just don't tell anyone about it.

Multiplayer is so much deeper than the crap single player, and if you've never played netbattle or a real multiplayer match then you're missing out on the entire game.
Yes... Still, it's not easy when you're old, to find others fans of the game.

The only one pokemon I bought was gold. I build a very capable team, thinking about multiplayer. I never managed to find oponents, so I gave up. The online option of Diamond/Pearl were the most interesting option, for me.

I think Pokemon blows goats but if a girl tried mocking me or something over an item I wanted to buy I would have to smack the bitch. It's just a damn game.

Same exact response. I hate Pokemon, but if my girlfriend was hating on some game I went to buy (unless it was, like, Elmo's fun with counting) then **** her. Of course, minus the smacking part :p

Well, I'm 20 (going to be 21 soon) and I just recently bought Pokemon LeafGreen (would you believe I was holding out for Pokemon WaterBlue?! WTF Nintendo?!)

Anyways, at the same time, my roommate/bestfriend/etc/etc...well SHE got Pokemon Emerald. She's the same age as me, so I guess I got lucky. Mind you she's not one of those prissy/airheaded girls.

Well anyways. I find it sad that people think Pokemon is kiddy, because my younger cousins really wanted to play Stadium on the N64, but they can't even read.

So let's sum it up in one sentence:

If you can't read, don't play Pokemon! (unless you miraculously manage to figure it out...without reading, but that's highly unlikely.)

I'm 22, and have been a Pokémon fan ever since the original Red and Blue days (age 13). I've played 'em all. And, on September 30th, I'll have caught 'em all for the Advance generation.

The main games can be played and enjoyed by any age. Stuff like Colosseum and Stadium are meant for more serious players, and stuff like Dash/Channel are for a much younger age group.

Basically, if Pikachu isn't on the cover, I think you're safe.

I know people older than me who are _still_ entralled with the cartoon show. Personally, I think the show has been trash ever since the first season. I heard they even took out Misty and replaced all the VAs, so why anyone bothers with the show is beyond me.

Hmmm, well you know there's a gal for everyone in this world. Males and females are roughly 50/50. I never said we were popular people and look like models. If someone can't get a partner by age 25 it's usually their personality, not how they act.

I'll watch the anime pretty soon when they start airing D/P episodes. They always reveal pokemon on the anime first sometimes.. Like how gary has that electabuzz evo.

You should stop playing Pokemon as soon as you're old enough to play something better in the same vein, like Guild Wars or Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne or even crappy MMORPGs like World of Warcraft.

Pokemon is a huge grind with poor graphics, story, writing, and themes, and only gets good at high-level play with other people. The thing is, you can do that high-level play better with any number of other games that have fewer level treadmills and kiddy elements.

That said, you should be able to play whatever you want without your girlfriend getting embarrassed.

Except the high-level play is quite complex and amazingly fun. Why should he give up something he enjoys, even if there are similar, more "mature" games out there? Pokemon's graphics may be a bit basic and the game may be packaged as very kid-oriented game, but if you can't look past those things, chances are you're way too worried about your image.

I'm 19 and I thoroughly enjoy the Pokemon RPGs, as does a 21-year old friend of mine who is one of the most confident and generally well-liked people I've met.

I know people over the age of 20 who still know the Pokemon television theme show song off by heart. And love it. Beat that.

Take it as any other franchise, play the games that are good. Period.

Which for Pokemon, luckily, is most of the games. I still watch the TV show airing in Japan and enjoy it.

If it feels good do it.

Fortunately, Spongebob has appeal for the "kiddult" crowd specifically because it has a lot of clever little in-jokes only adults can understand. Surely, kids wouldn't understand the concept of Spongebob watching Sponge porn!

True. I'm asking people who probably are unaware of what the term "cool" is. However, there are a lot of normal people here, too. I think of myself as a normal guy with a stronger interest in gaming then most. :-/

What is normal? If you allow your identity to be framed by the expectations of others, you will be eternally unhappy.

Take this experience for example. You clearly wanted the game. That's why you bought it. Yet you've allowed a subjective association like "cool" or "kiddy" to destroy your enjoyment of it. Are you better off in any way?

Be proud and unashamed to speak in your own voice and make your own decisions. It's secretly what everyone really wants: a strong sense of self. If you can do that -- if you can be comfortable in your own skin and make choices without the approval of others -- then others will inevitably see you as "cool."

Ditch the broad and catch those pokemon.

I'm 20 as well. No girlfriend I've ever had has had a problem with the fact that I enjoy a good pokemon game.

Any girl whose going to be so ashamed of your hobby deserves a kick in the nuts.

The only thing that has really turned me off to pkmn is that I can't play against anyone without going all Michael Jackson on the local K-12. I already have two strikes, Nintendo! Put the ****ing game online already!!

Why not play another game with complex and fun high-level play, less of a grind, and a story and setting that are actually compelling instead? There's little reason to settle for Pokemon.

Normally I really dislike childish anime, but in the case of the Pokemon game, to hell with that. The game series is just way too much fun to any RPG or sim-lover.

Because it's fun? And you don't have to pay a monthly fee for PVP?

I wanna be the very best
like no one ever was
To catch them is my real test
To train them is my cause

I will travel across the land
searching far and wide
Each pokemon to understand
the power that's inside

Pokemon! its you and me
I know its my destiny,
Pokemon! Oh you're my best friend
in a world we must defend
Pokemon! a heart so true
Our courage will pull us through,

You teach me and I'll teach you,
Pokemon! gotta catch'em all

Though that wasn't the best into, the 6th + 3rd American ones were. And the 9th Japanese one.

It's all about balance. Playing Pokemon is fine (not my cup of tea, but it certainly isn't brain damaging like the show is), but if the rest of your life also runs parallel to an eight year old's then there is probably cause for alarm.

Disagreed there. The anime has far more interesting and varied battles, with some very ingenious moves pulled off by the trainers/Pokemon that you'd never get from the games. At least not with the battle system they have going there. (Not to mention that the anime actually has some solid storylines when you drop your pretenses.)

And the solo game really is a grind/collectfest, deep stat system be damned.

I was 15 or so (i think, what year did pokemon come out) when pokemon came out and i was too old for it then.

The answer obviously depends on what kind of people you hang out with. Society is a vicious circle where very many people limit their interests and gossip about other people who don't, simply because everyone else is doing the same, also for the same reasons. So I'd say there's no real age limit, but it depends on how far you want to go to stay cool in the eyes of others. Sadly, this doesn't prevent you from being embarassed unless you just don't care what others think of you, which can have adverse affects on - I wouldn't say relationships with - but how some groups of people will think of you.
