This article almost confirmed that Spidey will appear on Venom (maybe a post credits scene or a little cameo during the movie).
And this gaffer wants, no, NEEDS to Daredevil on Homecoming 2. But we all know that won't happen. Cap won't be since he'll finish his contract with Avengers 4 (and to be honest, I'd rather see Steve go with a fucking bang and never return rather than see him doing a cameo). Widow could be but I doubt it. Maybe I'm crazy but my money is on Rocket. Imagine that little fucker throwing savagery after savagery at Spidey?

You know what, I like the idea that Tom Holland's Spider-Man can be detached from the MCU if need be. Maybe we get a chance for him to crossover with some X-Men folks. Spider-Man is like the perfect character to do so too. The connective tissue between all these fucking universes.

Is anyone REALLY surprised that Carnage was going to be the villain of the Venom movie? The only other villain I could assume would be featured is Sin Eater and that's maybe a bit too dark for audiences despite the R Rating.

Wait... did they just confirm that Carnage will be in the Venom movie? He cannot be the main bad guy that would be god damn horrible. Maybe make an appearance at the end to give a hint of whats to come in Venom 2 but not in the first god damn movie.

Once their deal/commitment to Marvel and Fiege is up Sony will simply take back Spidey from the MCU, removing him from that cinematic universe altogether, and will plug him into their own 'Sony-verse' (which they will fully control) and have him interact with the likes of Venom etc.
Rothman has zero intention of doing long term business with Marvel, the very fact that they are developing all these utterly redundant spin-offs and a wholly separate animated film shows that. That video of Fiege and Pascal shows that they are already at odds with one another.
The upside for Marvel/Disney is that they own the entirety of the merchandising and licensing rights to the Spider-Man character so if these 'Sony-verse' films are a huge hit they make all the money off the toys etc, not Sony.

I have no issue with the Venom movie not being set in the MCU but I do hope it at least makes some sense and doesn't contradict the wider MCU unless it's crucial to the plot or would make the movie better. That way I can sort of fold it in to my head cannon.

That's almost certainly what's happening.
In fact, it may be smart for Sony. Let Marvel work their magic on the character, re-vitalize interest, and then Sony can cash in with sequels and spin-offs.

I think it's either going to be a alternate universe like the idea they had for the silver sable movie. Or it's in the same universe, but it's only addressed in the Spider-Man movies and none of the other MCU movies.

Shit that could really work. Have Mysterio do loads of faux magic shit so Spidey goes and ask Strange for advice and Strange is like none of what Mysterio is doing is legit.
Babadook Canterbury would be way more affordable than RDJ I assume.
I doubt any appearances in Sony's Spider-Man movies would count as a film in their Disney contract. My guess is that Robert's appearance in Spider-Man was a separate deal with Sony themselves, while Marvel Studios just produces it.
I have really no way of knowing one way or the other. Downey did hash out a separate deal to be in Homecoming, but he also his contract limit years ago, so I can't tell from that. He had also renegotiated a new deal to appear in Civil War and, I assume, another separate re-up for Avengers 4.
