How the FUCK did DICE manage to make this in 2011?

that game was some straight up witchcraft shit

i remember going from Bad company 2 which had collapsible buildings that deformed,

to battlefield 4 which dumb ass PS4 couldn't handle the destruction and buildings just crashing your framerate and breaking in a controlled manner.

PS4 and Xbone cpu set Battlefield back

Talent. Pure and simple. As I understand it, somewhere around 80% of the team responsible for BF3 was gone shortly after BF1 released. I believe Tom Henderson was the one who said that. They were replaced with far less talented individuals who were more concerned about being politically correct than being good designers. The team of engineers responsible for the Frostbite engine were mostly gone earlier than that if I recall correctly. Which likely is one explanation why EA trying to switch all of their studios to that engine ended up being such a disaster. They just didn't have the minds behind it to work out the issues.

Not trying to downplay DICE's ability at the time, but the full game did not look as good as the original screens/footage they released. It was still an extremely impressive game though. Not just visuals but the audio as well.

Not sure what we're meant to be wowed by here. This looks exactly like a top of the line shooter from ten years ago running at maximum settings on PC.

does seem like there was some sort of step backwards in games from ps3/360 era to ps4 era .

You can say this about almost everything, and you know the answer...

I loved this game. I wish I could still play it. Recently I tried downloading it but Battlelog wouldn't launch any matches. Must be an issue with my browser or something. They should fix it or remaster it. Id definitely buy a remastered edition...imagine this game with 2023 graphics and RTX :messenger_savoring:

This was the game that made me want to build a gaming PC. As far as PC gaming went for me at the time I was playing on a shitty laptop. I can't remember the specs but I do remember I had to play WoW at 720p 15-20fps with everything on low settings lol.

I used to watch videos on YouTube of people playing the alpha and then I bought a copy of Battlefield 2 and my laptop struggled with that but I played the shit out of it.

The latest GPUs at the time were the GTX 500 cards. I wanted a 570 or 580. I didn't build my first PC until 2015 so I was playing BF3 on PS3 until then. BF3 was the first game I played when I built my PC.

The right technology at the right time. Other studios caught up eventually. Unfortunately current DICE aren't industry leaders anymore.

That series and Red Faction pushed the boundaries of games and are both still impressive in their own rights today.

The tank level is gorgeous. Imagine my surprise when I played more modern Battlefield games and thought they looked worse.

BF3 & BF4 were ahead of anything we've had since. I dropped way too many hours into both. Had a whole clan that would show up on weekends and obliterate others.

All on console. Zero cheating. Pure gaming bliss.

I've dabbled in some COD releases since but never found that same immersive spark.

no mp ever is going to surpass what i felt seeing this for the first time. It had a rough launch, buggy mess but god damn, it was a technical achievement and such a fun game. The things you could pull in that were holy fuck.

BF3 had the bells and whistles. It felt like a great product. BF4 was pretty awesome too, but I think it was BF3 that had me think the franchise had something special. It's crazy how far the franchise fell. It's like they got sick of what made them great in the first place. It went to hardline, back in time, and then into the future. It made me not want to play BF anymore.

Only issue with Bf3 was that it played like shit compared to Bad Company 2. Shooting was garbage.

It is sad realising that Battlefield is now a dead franchise.

Personally, it's a tie between this and Battlefront 2015 as DICE most impressive endeavor.

Battlefront at times is still:

Whereas at the time, excluding some chapters like Thunder Run and especially Going Hunting, I thought Crysis was still the king in many ways.

Severe competition. They lost the war though. That's why you see the effortless yearly Cod as no one is competing.
