How to actually play the Pokemon TCG; finally show your friends how it's done!

Eh, I knew how to play when the game came out, but I always thought it wasn't really that great. Similar to MtG, I don't like filling up a third of the deck with resource cards that would be dead draws by the tenth turn. I'm also not a fan of a rotational ban list, though it definitely is better for game balance. I honestly don't think that this game would have lasted as long as it has without the brand name.

That being said, I do like Yu-Gi-Oh, though that game is majorly suffering from a huge power creep problems.

It's not nearly as resource heavy as it was in the beginning, were you'd need a fuckton of energies even if the attacks were low-powered. You'd never see this kind of card in the modern tcg

4 energies for a measly 50 power attack with no secondary effects? bleh

I won the third price in a competition in my age class back in 2002. I lost against a kid with way too much rare Pokémons. Rich people are going to destroy you everytime.

But because of some issues, my dad managed to get me a very rare card collection (which I lost or something, ... yeah, I'm not proud of myself).

Somewhat 5 - 7 cards, they looked kinda similar to this.

Yes, I had this card.

Shame on me...

Hey I added you. Feel free to hit me up any time I'm on for a game. :)

Will add both of your names to the OP. If anyone else wants in feel free to post or PM me.

New scans for Rising Fist are out.

Rising Fist will be the next addition in the TCG coming later this year. It focuses on Fighting cards (fuck me) and some of these additions are ridiculous.

Strong Energy – Special Energy

This card can only be attached to a [F] Pokemon. As long as it’s attached to a [F] Pokemon it provides 1 [F] Energy. Attacks from the Pokemon this card is attached to do 20 more damage to your opponent’s Active Pokemon. Discard this card if the Pokemon this card is attached to is no longer [F].

M Lucario-EX – Fighting – HP220
Mega Evolution – Evolves from Lucario-EX

When 1 of your Pokemon becomes a Mega Evolution, your turn ends.

[F][F][F] Rising Fist: 140 damage. Discard 1 Energy attached to your opponent’s Active Pokemon.

When a Pokemon-EX has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

Weakness: Psychic (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 2

That energy is going to do some nasty things, considering how good Muscle Band already is (also... there's no reason those can't combo for +40, huh? Geez.). Mega Lucario doesn't seem too worrying though. Unless there's something new in this set to help them out (admittedly haven't looked through the scans) Megas are still too unwieldy to really be playable.

Ugh, the return of the old Darkness energy.

Mega Lucario doesn't seem that great though; when you're wasting a turn evolving, some other basic Pokemon is stabbing you in the dick for 140 damage or something silly like that.

Sorry for the bump, but i have a couple questions about the game. So, like many others, i have a whole box full of all the older pokemon cards (up to ruby and sapphire) and i'm wondering if they're still legit to use in the game? Is it possible to shuffle them in with a newer deck and still have it be competitively legal? My second question is kind of similar, and i'm wondering if the old cards stack up against the new cards? Are any of the older cards good enough to even compete with new cards? Or is getting a deck with all new cards the way to go about getting into the game?
