How to deal with bad professors?

Today I finished my network security project, went to the professor's office to show him the project. It is the due day also, so he had been expecting people to turn in at the office.

In the project I designed my own piece of algorithm, I tried explained to him, and he had no clue what I was talking about. So he concluded my algorithm doesn't work, then I politely asked him to let me demonstrate it in an example, he said it would be a waste of his time, and my project is worthless anyway.

I was so pissed. I am going to have to have a talk with dean sometimes.

For those of you in college or graduate school, what will you do? Have you ever have any shithead professor too? Did you just suck it up and pretent it never happened?

Dean. We've had several problems with teachers, and writing letters to the Dean (undersigned by many students) has always done the job relatively well.

If you can amass a group of students, you'll see results. Check around and see if other people have similar complaints, then go talk to someone in power. Doesn't even have to be the Dean.

In my first year calc class, the highest mark on our second test was a 67. Not only that, the prof was testing us on material we hadn't even covered yet (then would proceed to cover that material after the test, putting us even further behind). About 6 of us talked to the course director (this class had like, 4 sections) and he told us that there was no way this was acceptable. Then he told us that he had received similar complaints after the first test (which was unfair as well, but not as bad).

They forced him to give us a remake test, which proved to be helpful.

This guy is not only picky on me, he has his other problem. For example, he was never able to come to class on time, he was late in every freaking class for at least 5 minutes. All he did was reading slides and and he couldn't even read it properly.

I never played around much where grades are concerned. Lazy person on the team project? Kick 'em off - I'm not here to drag dead weight behind me. Cheater in a class that's on a curve? Turn 'em in. You agree that you can do whatever to pass, so no whining.

Bad professor? Oh, I've had a couple of those. Senior project advisor had no office hours, didn't respond to email, voicemail, or written messages (in mailbox or under the office door). The guy heading the class told us "figure out another way to find him." Oh, we found him *real* fast once he got word we were talking to the dean.

And while it's certainly not the first step I'd take, some colleges are getting pretty responsive to angry parents these days. It's worth a try, if nothing else works.

Yes. With one I was able to argue my case for the dean and was allowed to drop a class after the withdrawl date and with another I realized this jerk-off wasn't teaching me anything so I dropped the class and took it at another university.

I haven't had this problem, but my girlfriend has. She's in nursing school and she constantly tells me how horrible her pharmacology teacher her. Apparently the teacher comes to class, asks the students if anyone has any questions on the text that was assigned, no one has questions, so then she lets the class leave. And my girlfriend is paying for this! :lol

When someone told her in class that they weren't learning anything the professor said not to worry. She too had a horrible pharmacology class and didn't learn the medications until she got a job in a hospital. That makes it okay then!
