When you go to a site that has trailers (such as Apple's trailer site ), you oftentimes see that they have embedded the movie in the web page, and don't offer any kind of direct download link.

How can I get the MOV files saved to my hard drive permanently? I have tried viewing the page HTML source to find a direct link, but it usually only points to a small 185Kb file that when saved will still force you to download the movie on-the-spot.

Is there a Firefox extension that might help? A quick way to find the raw file somewhere in RAM or the browser cache? Any help would be appreciated.

www.davestrailerpage.co.uk posts direct links to almost every officially released QT movie trailer (mostly from Apple or Yahoo, but sometimes from the studio itself).

Open the Quicktime Player, go to Edit, Preferences, Quicktime Preferences, Browser Plug In. Check Save Movies in Disc Cache and uncheck Enable Kiosk Mode. Next time you wanna save something wait for it to finish downloading, right click the movie, and Save as Quicktime Movie. Works 90% of the time(Won't work with streaming movies).

Easy way of doing it yourself.

When you get to the page which is about to load the movie, go to the source of the page and you'll find something like this:

http://movies.apple.com/movies/independent/shaunofthedead/shaunofthedead_480.mov

Now, change it to this:

http://movies.apple.com/movies/independent/shaunofthedead/shaunofthedead_m480.mov

And it'll work!

Or you can just register Quicktime and the option to save is always there

If you're using Mozilla/Firefox:

1. Right-click on the page containing the movie.
2. Select View Page Info.
3. Click the Media tab.
4. Scroll down to the object(s) with the EMBED tag.
5. Click the Save As button.

Now, change it to this:

And it'll work!
