How to get an instrument appraised?

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
I have a violin. I do not want said violin. Said violin cost lots of money when it was purchased many years ago. I desperately need money.

What exactly do I need to do? Any tips on getting it appraised, selling it and how to sell it?
