How was the trick-or-treating in your neighborhood this year?

We had about 35 kids this year. Not a crazy amount, but a constant trickle through the evening. The costumes were pretty standard this year. There were some Minecraft characters, those inflatable alien ones, and there was a kid who was dressed totally normally that told me he was Jeffrey Dahmer. That caught me by surprise for sure.

I keep the light off, but we don't get trick-or-treaters in this neighborhood anyway because it's a former retirement community that only recently (a few years ago) opened its doors to families and younger people. So I would say zero.

He was like 7 or 8. Pretty small, which made it more surprising.
What a delightful little guy!

Unfortunately trick or treating hasn't arrived yet in my country. But I decorate and have a bowl with candy outside my appartment for the kids in my buildung.

Almost nothing at my house but my sister in law had 1600 kids (and could have done another 1000) before running out.

That is a lot wow
Wow that's a crazy amount. She must live in a destination neighborhood. No neighborhood has that many kids in it on its own. Some of the families in our neighborhood said they would be going to wealthier neighborhoods to trick or treat. Sadly I think that's becoming more and more common. So a lot of neighborhoods are getting fewer kids at their doors, while a select number of neighborhoods get a ton of kids.

It is. The whole neighborhood gets done up. They do Christmas crazy lots too

Halloween isn't really a thing in the Netherlands. They've been trying to push it on TV and in stores and such to make a quick buck, but I always thought that was a hopeless endeavor.

This year my mother moved to a small town with a lot of young families in her neighborhood. She got a pamphlet about trick or treating. They asked to hang the pamphlet on your door if you wanted to participate. She ended up not doing it (we feel this tradition doesn't belong here) but we saw a bunch of kids dressed up, going around with their parents. I was shocked. It was pretty cute though.

Maybe about 30ish kids total. Wife and I posted up out front in our driveway with a cooler of beer and a TV watching horror movies most of the night. It was a good time, but the amount of trick of treaters was disappointing.

Our neighborhood is crazy, people drive from other parts of town and drop their kids off here lol. Our kids are 6 and 3 so we finished up early before the hundreds arrived and they made out like bandits.

Zero, same as the last 5 years. I don't get it. I live in a flat, well lit area near a school, lots of nicer houses and fairly tightly packed together. 10 year old me would put my neighborhood as a prime target, but I don't even get the fat kids being bussed around in a minivan by their fat parents.

15 kids maybe. Normal amount.

It seems out of control in the US though, how much money do you spend on this? if hundreds of kids ring your door, how does that even work? must be a procession, how much do you spend on candy?

There is a varying degree of acceptance of traditions like that here, some feel it creates unhealthy pressures and some kids don't have friends to trick and treat with and feel left out. A lot of people I know look down on people who use too much time and money on costumes like it's a snobby-ish arrogant thing to do.

we have a haunted house that came back for the neighborhood. I used to get 200+ kids because of the haunted house/maze.

I was expecting 200. But got maybe 50.

Maybe this fentanyl candy scare is real.....

^^yes

If I was a drug dealer, why would I burn the spot and put my valuable drugs in candy right???

I think it stemmed from this recently

We had about 150 to 200, almost ran out of candy. Lot of people from other parts of town I think. Pretty fun.

We hardly get anyone in our neighborhood because of how steep the streets are and spread out houses, so we went to my parents’ and their neighborhood felt like a crazy block party. My dad had to run to the store because they were running out of candy.
