you need a program like partition magic.. and you stand a good chance of losing your drive.

Grr, guys were right. Should not have fooled around! I put in old win98 in to install on E drive. Well it errored out about seeing NTFS on main C:. Now C will not load, OS error 98 did something to XP part.

there is no MS created or approved way to do it, no. but some programs (the most popular being partition magic) can do it. however, they have a high probability of trashing the entire drive.

I've done it before NTFS to FAT32 thru formating XP install cd route, i would just rather not have go down that road, but looks like I messed it up enough that I have too.

You cannot do this. Win9x will rewrite the boot sector of the boot drive, no matter which drive it is installed on. It assumes it is the lead OS because Microsoft was stupid when they wrote the system. WinNT/2000/XP have a smarter boot loader that will detect Win9x during installation and can put it into the boot menu. Always install 9x first, then your NTs.

To solve the problem of not having XP, pop in the XP disc, reboot and do a Repair Install on the XP drive. That should take everything back to the XP version on your disc, so you'll have to redo your patches. The boot menu should then have both OSs in it.

Oh, yeah - Win9x CANNOT read NTFS. Sorry.
