Howard Stringer, new head of SCEI

And the same from the Gamefront's source (Bloomberg):

Sony's CEO Stringer Also Named Head of Video Games Business
March 31, 2005 03:25 EST -- Howard Stringer, who was named chief executive of Sony Corp. this month, will also oversee the company's video games division, the world's second-biggest consumer electronics maker said in a faxed statement today.

Too little details,it seems strange to me that Kutaragi who has made SCEI one of the most important division of the company, will be replaced in this way.
If that's the case something big and wrong must be happening within Sony at the moment.

PS3 released in America first. Make it happen, Stringer. :lol

I posted this at the OA for extensive trolling session. But, be careful - it could an early April Fools joke.

No, he's UKer. So...........UK launch first. :lol

He knows his true home. Let him decide where his ties lie with the PS3 release.

Well, can't they just have a special designation for KK within SCEI? Something under Stringer? Really, though...if KK leaves, his work is already pretty much accomplished, as far as Cell technologies (and PS3) are concerned.

"Let me lead you to somewhere I like to call... Videogame!"

Despite him saying he wouldn't do it, the sudden-ness of this announcement does reek of Kutaragi leaving. Or it could just mean that KK would still run SCEI but would be reporting to the big boss who will be overseeing all of Sony. Perhaps they are just saying that SCEI will not be it's own separate entity, like it hasn't been for quite some time actually.

Howard Stringer Scheduled to be appointed as Officer in charge of Game Business Group

Doesn't leave much space for speculation.

Not to do any type of DC but I'm reading the PR at the Sony site(thanks for the link cja) and I'm wondering... is this really just more of the title reorg? According to the site they've dropped all COO's position and hence some of these new titles are coming in to existence... is Ken really getting knocked down or is this just Howard putting himself directly in line with Ken... i.e Ken reports directly to Howard?

I'm not familiar with how the org structure looks....

In other words:

Dead : Blu-Ray 8 APU PS3.
Coming : DVD-ROM 4 APU PS3 with 256 MB.

No wonder the previously announced March unveiling was canned.

Consider that Kutaragi's title was not "Officer in Charge" of SCEI after he got bumped off the board, but rather something like "Group Manager", I'm not sure. That's why I'm saying this may not mean Stringer is replacing him, but rather being his boss basically. It does sound awfully suspicious though.

Hehe, if that holds true, my interest in next gen will be at an all time low. If even they start lowballing technology (as MS and Nin are already doing), it'd be a pretty big disappointment to me.
