How's your Elite 2 controller holding up?

I read so many complaints regarding the quality of the Series 2 controller, so I'm a bit worried about getting one. Have Microsoft resolved these issues, or is it still bad?

Nope. Microsoft haven't resolved the issues. It's pretty much still a lottery.

If you want a cheaper alternative, here me out:

- Buy an Xbox Elite Series 2 Core controller (Basically the Elite 2 Controller without the paddles and accessory pack)
- Then buy 3rd party paddles from eBay or Amazon.

You will save yourself A LOT of money and it's a good way to have the Xbox Elite 2 controller without paying the extra price for the accessory pack. Especially with Black Friday coming up, I'm sure there will be some good deals (Maybe my wishful thinking?).

Or you can jsut buy the Eliter 2 controller fully and get warranty.

I've had mine a little after xsx launch and no probs here functionally. I do dislike the fact the profile button replaces the share button though.

Aesthetically the coating on the thumbsticks has worn off but aside from that no big issues.

I rarely have issues with controllers though. I've only suffered a drifting joycon and the rubber breaking on the og ps4 controllers.

Yeah I bought the core after the last one packed in, think it was around £80 not too bad.

A button still misses the odd input so I use it for single player games only where it’s less of an issue - I have a series x standard for things like Rocket League where the input just needs to be trustworthy.

Funnily enough, I have the opposite problem. The black OG controller and the volt green one occasionally miss the 'a' input. Infuriating

Yeah, nice way to save money.

3rd party paddles on eBay or Amazon set you back around £5-£10. Much better alternative if you don't want to spend the full £160 to get the official parts and case.

Plus if you don't use the case, it ends up being a waste of money. So the alternative is so much better to save a bit.

To be honest - the best part is during cut scenes I can pull the left stick off and on along with the dpad to fiddle with something.

I’ve never used the paddles as they got in the way of my fingers and how I like to hold it so I took them off day one!

I got one that I bought on the cheap from one of Amazon deals. Thing was under $100 as Prime Like New warehouse sale.

It’s alright, but I use it in SP 99% of the time so not bothered by minor foibles. I wouldn’t spend more than this on the controller. Retail price for it is way too much.

Fine. But I've never had any bother with any controllers except for the old Mega Drive pads I broke when playing some wrestling game

Had one where shoulder button stopped reading inputs.
Yeah the last couple I had the shoulder buttons go, an elite mk1and a launch 2. They are an an easy fix, if you can be arsed.

Ive tried every other controller under the sun and as an FPS player theres nothing comes close for my massive hands . I tried scuffs but the back buttons aren't in the right place for me and they feel cheap. The micro switch triggers and shoulders were awesome though.

Triggers of a scuff with the weight, sticks and paddles of an elite would be my dream controller.

Fantastic controller that is full of QC issues. Issues mine has experienced:

- One of the rear paddles was mushy out of the box, because the pad it rests on was sunken in its slot. Fixed with aftermarket pads.
- LB started double-tapping. Fixed with inserts above the contact point. Did RB just to be sure.
- Left stick started drifting.

Mine's currently sitting in its case waiting for me to install some new potentiometers to solve the drifting.

I do hope that MS releases a new version, but this time actually uses hall effect sticks. There is no reason not to at this point, all the 3rd party Chinese controllers already have them.

A massive waste of money. I ended up selling mine because the A button was a pain in the ass.
Mine had(have) this issue in Bluetooth mode, once I got the USB wireless adapter the problem went away.

No, the rubber on the grip peeled off.
This happened to mine and haven't used it since. The 8bitdo Ultimate has been a very good replacement.

I didn't even use it that much, but it got stick drift just when warranty period expired. It is great controller, but I can't recommend it due to lackluster QC.

First and probably last premium gamepad I bought. I have like 5 'base' XSX gamepads and they are just fine, without any problems.

Overall disappointing mostly cause while it works it is great, but quality is honestly crap - also A button seemed like it was getting sticky at some points.

I've been through 3 of them. I find the grips way to slippy and always mod them. I use custom paddles too. I've had bumper issues, face button problems (usually A), battery fault, and stick drift. My current one is sound though with no issues at all. Though I can tell one of the sticks is starting to weaken. I think the drift issues may become more of an issue quicker if like me, you have the tension set to its softest.

Despite all of that, its still my favourite Xbox controller. Just dont expect them to last forever.

Holding up fine - but I had to use sellotape to fix the shitty A/Y button responsiveness. That was after I sent the first one back to seen if they could fix it.

I always map the face buttons to the paddles, i suppose thats why ive never had the infamous A button issues.

Have mine since Q1 2019. I've had to open it twice already, once because one of the sholder buttons barely registered inputs (after a few years), and the second just recently because the left stick was drifting. Nothing that a Youtube tutorial did not solve.
That, and I had to swap out the thumb sticks because the ones I used originally, wore out.
Otherwise it is an excellent controller, very nice feeling to it. One thing I don't understand is for the price, why MS does not mount hall effect sticks and triggers...

Fine. It’s the Core one that I bought some Scuff paddles for. The A button was a bit iffy from day one (most all Xbox One controllers I’ve used were, with needing to be pressed in the very center to ensure registering), but I usually have that mapped to a paddle so I rarely use the button anyway.

The fact that Microsoft or Sony can't use hall effect sensors, even on their premium controllers to prevent stick drift is fucking unbelievable. Even Sega used hall effect on their Dreamcast controllers back in the 90's, and I haven't experienced any stick drift to this day on those controllers.

Actually, for fun since I also manager to fix a Nintendo Pro Controller a while back, I looked up a video on how to fix Elite 2 shoulder buttons and surprisingly enough, the button works again.

I've had mine for 3 years. I had one of the face buttons start to stick or something. I took it apart and went to town with electrical contact cleaner and it's been good since. I can say after repairing and modding a bunch of DualSense controllers, Elite series 2 is very cheap and poorly designed internally in comparison. Feels great to hold though!

I play a lot of Rocket League and seem to break controllers quite frequently playing that game. I've had a few Elite controllers break. Left stick comes loose and start spinning when you play. After some time the whole stick will lock up. I'm thinking of trying Razer or Scuf. Needs to have paddles and wireless.

I would be happy with the Elite controller if it wasn't for the fact that I seem to break them easily. I had a 360 controller for like 5 years without any problems before that.

I only use my Elite for Battlefield and Halo but after 4 years I had to replace my first Elite 2 a few days ago. One bumper was not registering every input and the other bumper was registering double presses. Two of the paddle buttons on the back quit working but I only use 2 so not a big deal. Noticed a very small part of the rubber starting to peel. I'm absolutely NOt complaining at all...I'm very happyto get almost4 years out of it!

I've had 3 Elites so far (2 Elite 1's and 1 Elite 2) and ALL of them developed bumper issues after 2 to 3 years.

Despite the problems I love this controller and it's definitely a must have for me.

I would avoid it OP, gambling with the quality control isn't worth the price of this controller.

I bought one at the start of 2022, and my left shoulder button barely registers presses half the time. That's alright, because I've switched to using the Dualsense (feels much better imo).

Razer is the absolutely worst quality from products that aspire to be premium. The only thing premium about them is the price.

I've got 2 Elite series 2. One I bought on launch and the newer white one a few years later.
Both works as advertised. No stuck buttons or drifting yet.
They charge on the base in the case zipped up.
I like that the Dpad is quieter than the standard controller.
And the batteries last close to 30 hours on a charge.
I use them both paired with my PC using the xbox dongle. The smaller dongle. 2nd gen dongle? dongle.
The first one is getting a bit greasy, it has a rubbery coating feel that has gotten worn over the years.

The newer white one is better as it has a less grippy outer shell.

I've seen reports many years ago about stuck dpads, but the reports seem to have fallen off. Perhaps they fixed a bad batch at launch?

I bought 3 elite series 2 controllers from amazon warehouse. Kept the one in best condition and returned the other two. Still working perfectly fine and very little signs of wearing after 1.5 years. Admittedly, I don't use the paddles, just couldn't get used to the feeling. I probably got lucky using amazon warehouse since it was heavily discounted as well, but I'd recommend buying from somewhere with easy returns and give it a go yourself.

I don't know if I would buy it again since I don't get much value out of the back paddle buttons.

I'm going to piggy back on this thread. I'm going to have the PS5 edge that comes wiht the bundle. Is this a faulty device as well? Am I better with a regular controller?

i'm never buying an elite controller again, the sticks make too much noise
the dualsense edge is better but it has only 2 paddles

I replaced my previous elite controllers because they would shut down if you squeezed the controller too much. You know, like in the middle of an intense game. Which happened all the time and got me killed so many times before I realized it was the controller and not the battery or something.

I bought a Series 2 Elite to replace it, and had LB/L1 stop working after about six months. I thought at first that Halo Infinite was glitchy/laggy/inconsistent when throwing grenades, nope it was the controller. Replaced it AGAIN, and now I have one where the thumbsticks don't depress correctly (right after the warranty expired). So now I can't consistently sprint or melee, and have three broken, garbage controllers.

Fuck these piece of shit controllers. MS did not give a fuck and said they had a 90 day warranty or something stupid.

It's fucking amazing, best controller - when it works. I've had my two v2s on warranty replacement and repairs about five times now. It's time for a new sturdier v3.

I've had mine for about 3 years and the rubber on the grips has started peeling off. Worse yet, the RB button has starting to stick and not register button presses a lot of the time. It's still my absolute favorite controller of all time, I'll have to see if I can fix this one or I might just get another.

Utter cheap plastic crap.
200 and feels like it cost 50p to make.

Bumpers flimsy as you like.
Buttons mushy and clacky.
Sticks not v accurate.

Works with windows natively but that the only positive.

ds edge is much better but still has issues.

None of these premium controllers actually feels premium.

Had 4 of them returned them all
Such a fucking waste.

I just gave up. Glad to hear some people are enjoying theirs

99% of the time, it's superb.

However, whether wired or wireless, I occasionally seem to have trouble getting the PC to recognise the RB trigger when it's pushed. Sometimes there's a delay, occasionally it doesn't register at all. I've had trouble with the exact same problem with 2 of them now, so I suspect it's the PC at fault.

Out of the box, A button didn't work properly making it useless for rocket league. That is, you press, and that's registered, but as you're holding it blinks in and out, which leads to double inputs. Sent it to Microsoft. Big mistake. Always just return a piece of shit to the store. They sent me a refurb that was clearly more beat up than the brand new controller I sent in. Had the exact same problem. Sent it back again. Got a different controller back... same exact problem. Gave up, takes 2-3 hours of effort every time fighting with support and getting it returned. Useless piece of shit has been rotting in the closet ever since.

The original Elite controller held up a few years except that I had to replace the shoulder buttons and thumbstick caps pretty regularly. Eventually the thumbstick mechanisms were so loosey goosey I retired the thing. Also there was a bizarre issue where the stick values would go to a random ass place for one frame... wasn't super obvious in game but surely didn't help. Also looking at the raw values from the controller and comparing to a DS4... they were shockingly less accurate and consistent.

My recommendation, don't buy it. One of the worst companies I've ever dealt with.

The 'A' button began to work intermittently. Sent it in to Microsoft for replacement. The replacement then had the 'A' and Right bumper buttons work intermittently, and now the controller is out of warranty so I don't know what to do with it. It sits on a shelf. Waste of money.

In Norway we have a five year warranty on almost everything by law. I just replaced a regular Xbox controller that's four years old.
