It's like cable.
Fees support delivery.
Ads support content.
Of course, with cable, the delivery cost is far, far less than what you pay, especially when you consider that the local government usually pays for and maintains the physical wiring.
The same will be true for Hulu Plus, especially when you consider that you're paying for your internet connection, and all of Hulu's "delivery" costs for what they provide are completely back end, and relatively constant (they actually decrease over time).
So yes, you're getting screwed. But not any worse or in any way differently than usual.
