I actually joked about characters getting Nendums piloted by Nen Types once they get to the DC.

Get the fuck in the Nenvangelion Kurapika. Thing would probably be powered by the souls of the Kurta Tribe.

Did Ponzu ever even become a Hunter? She failed the first time and was part of the crew that got one shotted by Killua the second time.

Considering not a lot of time pass probably not unless they took the test again without Killua

To me the nen beast bestowing a degree of power for such a little sacrifice seems a bit of cop out...Or maybe they will extract more from their host. Either way, someone like Kurapika with his powers should be able to squash them. They seem like small fry next to the powerful nen users that are on the boat.

Theta and the other bodygaurd must be fairly weak nen users.

They didn't know about the ants yet since the place was basically north korea and was in the early stages. She is useful for communication with her bees plus she is probably competent enough for scouting just useless in a straight fight

Ok this makes sense. She does seem like a pretty good scout...just not OP like the scouts in Valkyria Chronicles. I was so happy to see "Bee Hat Lady" return and whelp...Togashi fixed that shit.

No, I checked and she wasn't a Hunter at the time. And yeah, she was brought to help scout and send back messages if needed. Too bad none of them made it out alive. Ponzu was pretty cool for the limited amount of time she was shown.

perhaps the DC is a horror arc and this is the opening act for it.

This seems most likely to me. The setup for the DC was "99% of the people who have ever come here have died terrifying, violent deaths, now we're sending like 80% of the current supporting cast over there."

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the DC's calamities were some form of rogue/ascended Nen Beasts. They seem to function through structurally similar, but much more devastating rules.

The craziest part of these designs is that you really can't tell at a glance what they actually do.
It's always like that in HxH.
Take Yupi, that looked like the most boring brawn type of the ants out there and yep in the end he was pretty smart and actually thought how to best use his powers.
Ending up as a horse horror thing too.
Fucking Yupi could probably do as much as Pufu in term of shapeshifting even BUT didn't feel like it.
I have no idea what to make of these designs but they're really great.
The 4th prince is really fucked up but I'd say the other head princes are equally fucked up.
the 1st one absolutely should know about Nen, he values strength above all else.
That means he should be interested in the Heavenly towers fight and thus Nen.

pretty sure they changed the time slot for hunter x hunter to late night which allowed them to step up the gore.

Actually with pansy gum it seems easy to do.
Like just attach some gum to one side with some cutting material, the other side on the arm.
Release the gum from the wall and have the cutting material carve the arm little by little.
Can easily be explained.

Likely yeah, doubt nen contracts (or Togashi) is very flexible or forgiving

Of course, the restriction isn't that he uses it willingly or something.
The restriction is "use it on someone not part of the spiders" = death.
That's why it's so strong no spider can take it off.

Why use the chain though?
It only puts chained people into zetsu.
Outside of restraining nen users there's literally no point to it.
The nen beast would probably just ask him to kill people and suicide afterwards.
There's no real reason to kill Kurapika just now, he may be dead by the end of the arc though.

spiders are on the boat. hisoka is likely going to murder a great number of them. this boat trip is going to end the story for a bunch of characters. the DC continent will probably only leave a couple of people alive at the end too. i can't see the story being focused on kurapika all that time.

I didn't know that. It's interesting. I was very disappointed at first they weren't even matching the tone of the old show but once they got to new material, I was very happy.

I have recommended watching the original series until York is over, then switching at Greed island.

The killcount is going to run high on this boat that's for sure.
They're planning to go the labyrinth of the vegetal round head weapon, there's going to be even more slaughter there.
We haven't seen Pariston's group (well now it's Ging's) make a move.
And we still have no idea what the ant soldiers that the King was growing will do.
I'm a betting man but I have no idea what Togashi have in mind for the next arc, I'm not even sure who will win the death match.

Leorio seems like a good leader but he's pointless in a fight, would need a massive genre shift to make him useful.
Not saying it's not gonna happen though.

It's just nice to have him and Chainz back. Interesting that they spent so much time out of the story and have swapped in while we don't hear from Gon and Killua.

Relative to the other characters we've seen, hunters especially, he is by far one of the most normal people in this series. Leorio is a very relatable character because of this.

Fighting isn't the end all and be all in Hunter x Hunter.

They're heading into an extremely dangerous situation, and Leorio is going to be the guy keeping people alive. Especially considering that they'll probably be encountering never before seen diseases on the Dark Continent. And his leadership skills will be essential.

The one out is that the option of escaping from the boat has been introduced. It seems pretty tough to accomplish, but I think there's a good chance some of the Phantoms bail out before the DC with some loot from Kakin. Once the boat hits the DC, however, I doubt many of the folks who head over will be making it back.

Also, I know Togashi is unpredictable, but is there any chance the succession battle doesn't end in one of two ways?

1. Tserriednich wins, (Woble might be the only other surviving prince if she escapes) and Kurapika must find a way to take him out on the DC. He could end up being very powerful with a strong nen ability + a terrifying nen beast, and seeing Pika take on a non-spider that strong would be interesting.

2. Woble wins by default as the other Princes take each other out and Kurapika takes down Tserriednich.

#2 almost seems more likely to me, as I don't think Kurapika will actually be part of the DC expedition once Tserriednich is taken care of. This seems like his arc while DC will be mainly Ging's. I could see him dealing with Tserriednich and then secretly returning to the mainland with Woble to avoid the wrath of Hui Guo Rou, who is now left without a successor.

Whew that was a good chapter. It was really cool to see most of the princes' Nen beasts and I'm eager to see what they can actually do. Looks like all of the princes are learning about Nen but not all the princes actually wants to learn it. Poor Theta though, I have a bad feeling about her.
