Kurapika could have easily had happiness though, yet he makes the choice to sink himself further into darkness.Huge balls if Togashi actually kills Kurapika, though. He's mostly killed fodder and a few more important secondary characters tbh, so i don't expect him to kill a MC that easily.
Would be really sad, though. If someone deserved happiness, it's probably him.
Kurapika could have easily had happiness though, yet he makes the choice to sink himself further into darkness.
Yeah he's completely driven by it. Leeorio and Melody can only course correct Kurapika only but so much and it's obvious that if they're not right next to him fluting some logic into him he'll go off the deep end without a second thought, this was eerily obvious in Yorknew cause Kurapika would've died right in that arc without Melody calming his ass down. Kurapika pretty much needs a second head to calm him. Kurapika seems like he really does just want to die, it's evidenced in his Nen conditions, it's sad. He could have a happy life, but he rejects it like Dio rejected his humanity.Like Phillipo said on the previous page, Togashi seems to be really trying to drive home how fruitless revenge is. I can really see Kurapika dying a horribly depressing death. Characters like Leorio and Melody are really his only hope now. If he stays the course on the path of revenge, then I really can't see things ending positively.
This chapter also really made me realize how much I like Kurapika as a character too. Because reading the condition for Emperor Time had me all fucked up yesterday. Everything Kurapika has done to this point has been given even more weight, and it's just plain sad what this character is doing to himself. There's no way Kurapika sees a future for himself with an ability like that. He is completely devoted to revenge.
I really don't know how Hisoka will react to Kurapika now. I think he's going to be a bit "off" post ressurection. Really hope to see them interact.
Togashi will pull a fast one and the time skip is actually a characfter's Nen power.
I don't think he is. I remember a bit of debate around this during the final part of his mini-arc and a lot of it came down to scanlations getting his dialogue wrong. The only thing different about Hisoka is that he realizes that in order to defeat Chrollo, he'll need to whittle down his access to powerful abilities (the rest of the spiders). He's still in his fight with
Hisoka is a nice normal guy now... unless you're a spider
Hisoka is a nice normal guy now... unless you're a spider
I'm usually more weirded out by Illumi, at least you usually know where you stand with Hisoka.
Hisoka is the nicest guy there is.

There's that and he's knowingly friends with Hisoka. He pretty much comes off as the most unhinged Zoldyck next to his mother and the least untrustworthy.I would agree with you there. Illumi disturbs me, and I still don't really know what he's about. Considering how fucked up the Needlemen were, he definitely scares me.

Looooool I just caught up on the new chapters. Kurapika's last ability is ability theft because of course it is
"Always been a geezer..."Maha might be even worse lol. He has no bonds!
The big question. Can Kurapika steal Alluka's ability ;D
Kurapika's whole character arc is "you become what you hate"Looooool I just caught up on the new chapters. Kurapika's last ability is ability theft because of course it is
Probably not, as Nanika is likely an entirely different entity w/ Alluka having developed no abilities of her own.The big question. Can Kurapika steal Alluka's ability ;D
Honestly even without the whole ET thing, being unable to re-use Steal Chain if you steal something with a hard to fulfill condition is pretty rough already. I guess he could just pawn it off on someone else though.
That doesn't cancel emperor time though.
That would be neat. The consequences of a Nen power like that would be interesting.Togashi will pull a fast one and the time skip is actually a characfter's Nen power.
Summary of major points that I found.Someone just explain the entire arc so far in the OP like in the One Piece thread.
-Kurapika and his allies applied as bodyguards to princes in order to "hunt" Tserriednich.
-Kurapika became a bodyguard to Wobble
-Wobble's mother just wants to escape the succession war.
-Kurapika promised to help the mother and baby Wobble escape in exchange for one condition (probably to make contact with Tserriednich.
-1st & 2nd deck of the black whale are the "hunting grounds" basically where the king, princes, celebrities and VIPS are.
-3rd, 4th and 5th decks are where "common folks" are so its chaos now in those decks. Crime rate is going up, and there's a shortage of doctors and medical facilities.
-Kurapika plans to help Wobble and his mother escape the succession war using 3rd, 4th and 5th decks.
-Beyond is on deck 1 being guarded by Tiger zodiac, Monkey zodiac and horse looking dude.
-Dog zodiac is with Leorio on deck 3
-Dragon zodiac also on deck 3
-Cattle zodiac is on deck 4
-nen is supposed to be a secret by the hunter association but Kurapika revealed it to "normal" people.
-The other hunters that are bodyguards of Wobble doesnt know about the succession war. The queen didnt tell them as they had no one on one interview with her. (they went through Pariston's method). Unlike Kurapika.
-Meaning Pariston's side also doesn't know about the succesion war.
-The dead bodyguards in Kurapika's side, AKA prince Wobble's side were killed by nen beasts. Maybe Wobble's. As those bodyguards were working for other queens (to spy on newer queens. Wobble's mom is the newest queen so she gets more spying from previous queens).
-Some nen beasts appeared on Wobble's room. Some of it were confirmed to be 6th Prince's nen beasts and the huge hamster is 12 Prince Momoze's nen beast.
-Another co-bodyguard of Kurapika got "possessed" by a parasite type nen beast that made him kill the other remaining body guards, including a guy who's ability would have been really useful in Wobble's escape plan. (Seems like it was Momoze's nen beast that "possessed" the guy).
-9th prince Harkenburg returned to his quarters seeing his bodyguards killed right after he tells his father, the King, that he is withdrawing from the succession war.
-First prince Benjamin sent a "bodyguard" which are actually assassins/spies to each of the princes' quarters
-Kurapika were able to restrain the "bodyguard" that was sent to them and when they were about to extract info from that guy, he killed himself.
-Kurapika's side got a message that three princes wants to speak with them.
-The problem is those three princes sent it at the same time. The princes that gets ignored could take it as a declaration of war. On top of that, the new "bodyguard" from the first prince Benjamin just arrived at Kurapika's side.
Ep 69:
"Nice jump Tzegerra...hold our beers."
I went back and rewatched the episode where Kurapika takes on Uvo and he must have been using Emperor Time most of that fight. The amount of time he must have accrued must have been huge.
Gon: "What did Bobobo do to deserve to be murdered?"
Razor: "He raped, murdered and stole from people."
Gon: "oh."
Razor: "Your dad told me to beat the shit out of you."
Gon: *crazy smile*
Gon is legit insane.
Kurapika's whole character arc is "you become what you hate"
He's now a mob boss with an ability steal.
Probably not, as Nanika is likely an entirely different entity w/ Alluka having developed no abilities of her own.
Yep, I've been watching YouTube compilations of reactions and you can see Gon isn't wrapped too tight long before CA Arc.You know...people complained about Gon losing his shit in Chimera arc came out of left field. Nope. I think if you pay attention to him in certain parts of Greed Island it's apparent that he's a latent psychopath. Lol at Hisoka getting excited over seeing Gon's Hatsu. The dodge ball segment is legit still good. Razor wasn't playing any games and neither was Gon.
Yeah I enjoy the reaction mash ups to stuff like Gon's transformation and Netero Vs. Meruem. People lost it at Zero Hand.
Yeah I'm doing a slower rewatch than I did the first time. Still loving it and I enjoy Killua as the voice of reason between the two of them, but it's quite clear at this point that Gon brings out the best in Killua. He has such heart felt confidence in him.Yep, I've been watching YouTube compilations of reactions and you can see Gon isn't wrapped too tight long before CA Arc.
You rewatching the series?
Yeah I was just thinking that even without the ET restriction, the ability would be fairly balanced if it weren't for the giving abilities to others thing.
Yep, I've been watching YouTube compilations of reactions and you can see Gon isn't wrapped too tight long before CA Arc.
I always taken that as Wing awaking Gon's Nen curiosity, which I don't tie to his all round near insanity. Gon is a kid that watched people get eaten by what was essentially a Venusaur and didn't flinch in the Hunter Exam. He also almost let Hisoka kill Leerio and Kurapika because he wanted to steal his badge. He's always been off the deep end a bit you just don't really notice it instantly in the moment. Once you take it out of context and see how he's trying to rationalize it you see that yeah, Gon's crazy and it only gets worse the further in you get.One of the first big clues is Wing saying "Have I awoken a terrifying monster?" (Heaven's Arena arc)
I wouldn't be surprised if current ET is revealed to be an adjustment Kurapika made after that arc in order to avoid what happened in Yorknew. The dub just finished the York New arc and the thing I noticed on this watch is Kurapika must have been in Emperor Time for so long, hours even. That fever that knocks him out of action after the dust settles might even be related to the toll that took on him. That is of course if Togashi planned that power out that far ahead.

I was under the impression (prior to this arc) that it was a natural racial perk due to his eyes. If so, it's possible that he attached the condition to it after he discovered the downside in order to prevent being exhausted in the midst of battle. It's possible that was simply the longest he'd been in it period, up to that point. After all, before learning nen it was something that he consciously tried to avoid having happen and it also never really had a "purpose" other than making him stronger
"I don't want to be tired, so kill me quicker" doesn't seem...logical?I was under the impression (prior to this arc) that it was a natural racial perk due to his eyes.
