I guess it just seemed too simple for a guy who charged arm-first into gunshots a chapter or two ago.
This being HxH, i'm instantly suspicious that whatever his ability is wouldn't let him touch the roach, or something.

I get it but sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
Heck wait for next chapter having a guy who's like "he mustn't touch the creature he control so" or something like that.

Ep 111:

People fucking complain about this episode? Palace invasion is fucking badass!!!

Ep 112:

Zeno and Netero are watching Meruem cradle Komugi. Zeno just looks at Netero like "how the fuck did we get here and what the fuck do we do now?" The pacing is actually pretty tense, which people mistake for slowness. The whole thing is just pretty damn good.

I just started the 2011 anime. It's great. My question is, is the manga better or stick with the anime? Is there any reason to watch the 1999 anime if I already started this one?

And finally. When the anime ends...What chapter does the manga take off from?

Edit:
and is this like berserk and it will never ever finish?

The 99 anime is pointless with the 2011 one in existence. Apparently the 99 one has some filler stuff, while the 2011 cuts a bit in the opening episode.

The anime is superior imo

I forgot where the anime ends though. And yes, it is basically the weekly equivalent of Berserk. When it has a nickname like Hiatus x Hiatus, it doesn't give one confidence of it finishing anytime soon. Also unlike Berserk, we don't even know where he wants to end it at anyhow, while Berserk at least has the presumed goal of killing Griffith and calling it a day.

What I'm really appreciating about HxH is that the characters are intelligent. What you would assume someone would let slide in a different anime the HxH characters pick right up on it in a believable time frame.

Rereading the chapter, it seems like Kurapika is actually offering to teach the princes' bodyguards, not just the princes themselves.

That seems like an incredibly risky plan. Multiplying the number of nen users when the probability of a bloodbath is so high seems really ill-advised, especially when you have people like Benjamin and Camilla who aren't likely to back down permanently even when it's the only logical choice.

No one's really going to have time to create their own Nen power though, let alone get proficient at the basics. Look at how long it took Gon and Killua to get to a respectable level, in two weeks they'll all be able to use Ten, Ren, Zetsu, and Hatsu and that's it.

Besides, they still can't openly kill each other. Remember that while to goal is to kill the other princes, everyone is still subject to the rule of law. So if you kill someone and get caught, you're going straight to jail. This essentially stops anyone from making any moves and protects the lower princes from the bodyguards assigned to them from the higher ones.

The whole point is to create a situation where Nen in and of itself is not an advantage, but specific abilities can be.

I think kurapikas plan is like mutually assured destruction, he wants to remove the advantage any Ben players have but equalising the field

Well Benjamin's people all already know Nen, Tserriednich's too. There's only a few other princes who are in it to win it and the rest could be considered allies, so I think the reward outweighs the risk.

I myself have grown fond of stuff like seafood, but...
If I see the eyes of a roasted animal I'm about to eat, my appetite instantly goes down.

Just finished ep 115. I love how they juxtapose the emotions in Pitou's the second time Gon sees her. The first time when she kills Kite her eyes of have nothing but a harsh maliciousness to them. But in this ep her eyes are nothing buy soft and fragile. It's a nice touch if you're paying attention.

Ep 116:

Holy shit Gon seeing Pitou again is tense as fuck. Anybody know the track that was playing, those drums. For some odd reason I didn't realize how much was at stake the first time I saw this, but now I know how much weight is behind it, great scene...Gon gives no fucks.

From the OST heard in "The Last Mission" movie. Gonna go check....
Edit: This one?
Edit again!: Or this one?

This chart makes me laugh, but also kinda offends me in a couple minor ways and one not-so-minor way:

That's definitely not the track since the track in 116 is a lot slower paced than that. Regarding that chart Feitan isn't a manlet...then again I don't think he cares or has and OKCupid profile. I find Welfin interesting, dude is suspicious as fuck. Your second edit is the one thank you. Why is this in a movie OST? In fact the one in that ep lacks the chanting so I guess it's an instrumental version.

The thing with some long-running anime I've noticed is they eventually utilize the score from their films

I just found a 3 year old comment of mine in that vid, lol

Lol, they at least plucked the best tracks from that movie, which I heard was bad. This ep is so damn tense. Everybody is shook except for Gon, whom just wants to murder Pitou. I know what's going to happen yet I'm not bored by the proceedings, it's just good. It's even nice being able to read into things. I always find it interesting, sad and funny how Gon is like "Cash me outside" to Pitou and Killua and Pitou are the only ones doing some actual thinking and don't even want to fight. I really hope Gon's English VA is watching ahead and practicing for this arc. I like her as Gon, a lot actually, but she's really going to have to dig deep for Gon during the Pitou scenes. Gon's at his breaking point and this just SOUNDS frightening. This whole ep is excellent, watching Pitou essentially being more human than Gon and watching Gon lash out at everybody is some frightening scary shit. This kid's the fucking main character and he's essentially bad cop to a kid raised by assassin's. Once you just stop watching HxH as if it's a simple battle anime you really just start noticing how good the character interactions really are. Gon pissed Killua off so much that he actually walked out on him, fuck. This ep is officially the writing on the wall ep for when Gon legit fucking snaps god damn, he's already done, but the fact that he goes deeper off the rails is tragic. Gon is just too stubborn of a character and it actually reminded me of that scene in the Hunter Exam with Hanzo, except this time it's not played for laughs or as light hearted. You literally cannot reason with Gon is a simple manner. The fact that Gon went fuck it and almost Jankened Pitou and Komugi into oblivion just proves that Gon cannot handle real life. Just...damn what a good ep.

Ep 117:

Cheetu dying mid sentence is always going to be hilarious. Silva just left his dead ass in a 20ft deep crater made from his own punch. Zeno could have killed him himself, but who's got time for that.

Ep 118:

Knuckle right after he punches Youpi:
tumblr_inline_nlr3keXGeD1ryq56n.gif

If Killua didn't bail him out he would've gotten wrecked.

Ep 127:

"The next time you try to delay me, I'll kill her." And this is my tried and true "fuck Gon" moment. Dude threatened to end a blind girl that has nothing to do with his plight roughly two minutes after she's been healed because she almost died just because he's impatient, narrow minded and wants kill somebody. I don't even think Kurapika with a throbbing vengeance boner would be acting like this.

Ep 128:

How in the fuck are they going to be able to dub Meruem's resurrection? "Togashi, you know Araki is the master of bizarre shit, you'll never be able to top him." Togashi: "Hold my sake."

I was sitting here today a few years on from having finished the anime and thought "maybe I'll finally get around to catching up with the manga so I can really live the painful waiting experience of HxH".

I am now caught up, the suffering truly begins now....worth it though.

At least you've caught up while chapters are still being released. You still get to taste the sweet nectar of new releases before being cut off when the eventual hiatus hits.

Speaking of which, when does everyone think the hiatus is going to start?

Needs enough chapters to sell a volume, so another month/month and a half?

Ep .
More like Josuke and Zeno seems to be the guy who let's things and let live if you're not a target plus he was in a good mood

I just naturally assumed it was on a hiatus right now, what a pleasant surprise!

You know until it DOES go back on hiatus.

Zeno is pretty much the most chilled out dude on this show. He just wants to get paid and not put too much effort into his work. Regarding the dub I guess Keith Silverstein is going to have to teach Pouf and Youpi how to convincingly orgasm into the mic.

That would be my bet as well. Since we're already on chapter 367, that means we're most likely getting 3 more chapters before the hiatus hits. Hopefully Togashi continues past that but that's just me being unrealistically hopeful.

Glad you noticed the similarities quite early.

Glad you noticed the similarities quite early.
I didn't exactly start piecing together the Gon and Kurapika similarities until the truth came out regarding Emperor Time. Both of them seem to have a fetish towards self destroying Nen powers, they both also really need a calmer person to talk them out of early suicide. Melody and Leeorio are pretty much Kurapika's Killua and without the influence of those people Gon and Kurapika would've sent themselves to an early grave already...shit Gon did kill himself and is only still alive because Killua used Nanika as a reset button. This is probably why I've enjoyed this rewatch more than I was expecting to. Once you know what happens you can kind of try to look out for some foreshadowing, HxH definitely rewards a deeper watch.

Ep 131:

Togashi really did flip "Going Super" on it's fucking head here. It's not even a badass moment...well it looks badass, but once you realize it's happening because a 13 year old boy is suicidal and throwing his life away you don't ever want him to do this shit again. Everything from the absolute nothingness in Gon's eyes to the cryptic music tells you that Gon doesn't want to wake up to see the next morning let alone be a relevant entity 15 minutes from now. Holy fucking shit this episode is emotionally draining. I think I feel the worst for Killua. He races to try to save his friend and he's greeted by this hulk decapitating a dead body with his fist only try to save him again from the corpse and he gets his arm ripped off. Then Gon essentially tells him that he's happy to die in this manner because it brings him closer to Kite. I still feel badly for Pitou. She did bad shit, but she didn't deserve this type of death, she was pulled apart. She's not even the monster she was when she got introduced, just...fuck...I can't ugh...god. HxH really is like the Dark Souls of shonen or some shit.

Oh I didn't know this was a rewatch haha. I started browsing the last pages of this thread because of the recent off-topic thread and I wanted to see people's reaction to Bisky's English dub voice in the latest episode.

I didn't really notice the similarities until I saw how Gon got badly damaged in the Chairman arc. But even then I was more worried about the power of Killua's sister and enjoying Hisoka and Illumi's schemes.

Agreed on the going super. In a lot of ways, the way the animators did the crazy black lines reminds me of the scene in Ghibli's Princess Kaguya when the main character gets upset and angry before she runs away from home. Her negative emotions get so strong that eventually world around her just became abstract lines with shades of only black and white. Of course that's the animator's depiction of what she feels and what they want the audience to see but the message is still sent. Here's a clip of the scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jtc-PP2GWPo

Edit: Oh forgot to write more about the power up. I draw the comparison to Kaguya because of how the animators in both show and movie drew simple but meaningful black lines so appropriately. But what I liked in Hunter X Hunter was how aggressive but also frightening pure blackness can look like when it goes out of controlled.

The visuals linked up with that music for Gon's transformation is borderline nightmare fuel. Gon's eyes used to be so full of life, this scene? Nothing, just black. I love the swirling animalistic artwork for Gon's transformation.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
The fact Togashi's author comments aren't about his pain and agony is a positive sign.

Does the US Jump magazine translate these?

That's where it's from.
They only translate the series they feature though.

BatDan

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
That's cool! Wish I could subscribe...

How have the other comments been (if there's been any)?

Toagshi's or just in general?
This year Togashi has been pretty positive. The darkest was a comment about his GPS almost killing him.
Otherwise it's about how he's getting better, congratulating Oda on 20 years of One Piece, mentioning the easter eggs he hid in one chapter and his plans to remove them in the full volume, but then deciding to keep them next week.

Weekly Jump isn't that pricey. It's $26 for a year of issues. They even discount to $20.

Togashi, I mean! I'm actually surprised they translate these. I've tried finding ANY info on these blurbs, but I couldn't. Maybe nobody who subscribes actually puts them out somewhere... ^^'
Great to hear he's doing well, though. Wonder what sort of magic he went through.

As for the subscription, it's not available in Sweden! Otherwise I'd get it in a heartbeat :(

Man, Togashi is a beast. Another look at the current battle royale situation. The chart it even includes how each prince has assigned guards to other princes given the ranks of their mothers (the queens), that's signaled by the colors. The red one are the guards assigned by Benjamin because he manage the Royal Guard.
