goddamit, Griese!
Just recommend me something good. I am completely bored with pretty much everything I have.
I like pretty much anything except rap and country, and would prefer rockish type stuff, though I am pretty much a metalhead.

As 95% of the board knows, Tool is mt favorite band ever. Other bands in my top 10 include, but are not limited to, Dredg, A Perfect Circle, Atreyu, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, My Chemical Romance, Deftones, and The Doors.

My playlist: http://www.angrygodofjebus.com/playlist.html

But really, just recommend me something worth listening to that's not on my playlist, if you can.

Lightning Bolt- Wonderful Rainbow- From a review: "juggernauts, atomic blasts of crystalline fury that send shards of feedback and blistering distortion into anyone who dares witness such savagery in the flesh."

Recommended Song: Assassins.

I'll get started on those...if you could say what type of music it is it would help =)

Thanks though.

The Blood Brothers. It may take you awhile to get into them, but when you do you will feel great.

They're hardcore/noise/emo/sortof I guess.

I suggest buying some really good headphones.

It's like having cotton taken out of your ears, almost like hearing the true song for the first time, you can never go back to cheapo headphones... etc.

already heard LTE...good stuff. Looking for the other prog stuff you suggested.

heard alva star also...not that bad. i'll get to the rest of the stuff as soon as i can....blood brothers aren't my thing, though i do like a lot of that type of music. they just didn't click with me for some reason.

well it's good to know that at least some of my whoring of Alva Star has worked... unless of course you heard them due to some reccomendation that didn't come from GAF. I which case I would assume you live in Minneapolis or in a Tri-State area.

Go grab some SiKTH if you want something different ....... It's kinda like some bizzaro metalcore band with 2 muppets as lead singers.

If you're looking for good prog (or even if you're not), you absolutely HAVE to listen to Pain of Salvation. It's useless to try to put into words why, but the way they write their music it sounds like everything came straight from the imagination...without having to go through the difficult process of trying to figure out what exactly is in your head, a process where so many things get lost along the way.

Listen to "Remedy Lane" or "The Perfect Element pt.1" in their entirity several times. Preferably reading along with the lyrics(they're both concept albums...all their albums are concept albums).

People kept pushing this band on me and i never checked them out until about 6 months ago but they're now BY FAR my favorite band out there.

heavy aussie band by the name of the butterfly affect. Really good album, think it's their debut.
beginshere_cover.gif

i dunno if you could find it in the US, but there are means (not sure if im aloud to mention :p)
Apart from that lateralus (which im sure you've got) or the remix of A perfect circle in Amotion, thats awsome, especially the female version of hollow!

Get everything you can by The Who.

They were amazing.

My Generation (Delux) (stereo with extra tracks worth it, definately), A Quick One, Sell Out (One of the best), Tommy (2nd best), Who's Next (THE BEST), Quadrophenia (TIED WITH TOMMY), By Numbers (great), Who Are You (The beginning of a different kind of who, Kieth Moon was opressed by the producers :p. Being forced to keep his drumming simple which limited his creative ability or whatnot.)

I have The Who already in my playlist, and have been listening to them for over 10 years. so thanks, but i need no lecturing on the who =p

so far, Planet X has been the best one so far, but i haven't nearly gotten all of them yet. thanks to everyone who contributed =)

I must say that their album One Hour by The Concrete Lake is excellent, even though I don't like the rest.

PROBOT? I SEE NO PROBOT, AND YOU LIKE METAL.

PROBOT.

I'm pretty sure I hooked Em up with Probot a while ago. I could be wrong-o, though. Hmm...it is a fucking great collection of songs.

Some of my favourite albums of late:

Savatage: The Wake of Magellan, Poets and Madmen and Dead Winter Dead - metal with progressive elements
Bad Religion: Generator - punk rock
Soudgarden: Superunknownd and Badmotorfinger - hard rock / metal
Ozzy Osbourne: Ozzmosis - hard rock / metal
Nerdee: Diamond Station - rock/pop
The Darkness: Permission to Land - metal with pop elements

Suggestion: I wouldn't recommend anything remotely mainstream. He's heard Soundgarden, Ozzy and The Darkness.

Sinfonia by Berio.

Jesus, straight-up serial music to a rocker? Bold. Can't say I agree.

Classical music is definitely the way to go if you think the music you're listening to is getting too repetitive, though. If you're anything like me, it'll be years before you can even think about listening to "alternative" radio again.

How the fuck is that possible?

Listen to Talking Heads.

[edit] I feel like a retard suggesting Talking Heads and having a David Byrne avatar at the same time, but it's purely coincidence. I'm not one of those nerds who have a band du jour and plasters every bit of his life with things relating to that band. Although I did watch Byrne's True Stories earlier today...

[edit #2]I also just got a really strong urge to watch my Stop Making Sense DVD. I can't help it that Talking Heads and David Byrne are two of the most entertaining things ever.

Also, if you like rock and Final Fantasy:

TBM.jpg

The Black Mages

The group consists of:

Tsuyoshi Sekito (関戸 剛) -- Guitar
Michio Okamiya (岡宮 道生) -- Guitar
Nobuo Uematsu (植松 伸夫) -- Keyboard
Kenichiro Fukui (福井 健一郎) -- Keyboard
Keiji Kawamori (河盛 慶次) -- Bass
Arata Hanyuda (羽入田 新) -- Drum

They do rock "covers" of Final Fantasy music. It has a nice progressive twist to it.

Also, I see you like The Advantage. If you want some other good rock/video game music, check out The Minibosses.

I see you have some Porcupine Tree, but nothing from In Absentia. In other words, go get that!

Also, I see you're missing some of the best Hopesfall songs:
- Open hands to the wind
- April left with a silence
- The end of an era
- The far pavillions

Beats the crap out of anything off of The Satellite Years, with the possible exeption of The Bending.

I also recommend Novembre (melodic death metal), Opeth (melodic death metal, start with Blackwater Park), Soilwork, Ephel Duath and Dark Tranquillity.

Good to see someone else enjoy Oceansize and The Postman Syndrome.

Opeth - Blackwater Park (someone already recommended it, but what the hell...)
Progressive death metal of the highest order. Packed to the gills with inventive chord progressions, rhythms and melodies. Dense and dramatic, but never cheesy. Oh, and heavy as hell. Other albums to check out: Still Life, Deliverance

Strapping Young Lad - City
Industrial thrash/grindcore. Think Fear Factory on half a ton of crystal meth and injected straight into your cerebellum. Probably the most intense, chaotic band I've ever heard. Other albums to check out: SYL, Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing

Susumu Hirasawa - Sim City
This guy's been in the electronic music loop since its early stages, and yet few people have heard of him. Most of his songs feature him on vocals and he has a very atmospheric and captivating voice. He comes up with a lot of really cool melodies and choruses. Other albums: Kyusai no Gihou (Technique of Relief), Siren, Philosopher's Propeller

Angra - Temple of Shadows
Power metal is really crowded genre with a ton of sound-alikes, but Angra are way ahead of the pack. They experiment a lot with Latin/South American rhythms, as well as more traditional progressive signatures. Not to mention that every member of this band is unbelievably talented. This release is probably my favorite album of 2004. Other albums Rebirth, Holy Land

Akino Arai - Eden
Another 2004 top 5 of mine, from my personal favorite Japanese female vocalist. A lot of people know her as the chick who sang "Voices" from Macross Plus. Her voice is very soft, but she's more than capable of singing powerfully as well. Her other releases lean more toward electronic/new-age (and just as good, IMO), whereas this one is more of a pop "singer/songwriter" type album, with a full band on most tracks and the occasional string section. Other albums: Falling Platinum (Furu Purachina), RGB

Ocean Machine - Biomech
My favorite album of all time. Hard to describe, but I guess the best classifier would be "ambient progressive hard rock." A much heavier Pink Floyd comes to mind, but that only scratches the proverbial iceberg. Amazingly, it's by the same guy responsible for Strapping Young Lad. Just get it, 'nuff said.

Listen to my favorite album and band of all time;

Sneaker Pimps - Splinter

sneaker%20pimps%20-%20splinter%20front.jpg

This CD is so friggen creative, artistic, melancholy, genious, intriguing, mysterious, heart-warming, nostalgic. It's acoustic guitars/analogue-electronic/voice

If you find art in Tool (just as I do), I am sure you'll become obessed with Sneaker Pimps - Splinter.

Listen to the song "Half Life" or "Lightning Field".

Or,

listen to old school hardcore like Vision of Disorder (self-titled) or Strongarm (advent of a miracle)
