I worked in a few jobs where I never missed a single day of work. One because they didn't care if you were sick, they still expected you to work. And the other because they never believed you were actually sick unless they saw you. And at that point, they figured you made it to work so you were healthy enough to do your shift. After I got fired from one of the jobs in which I worked 10 hour days and never missed a single day of work (including covering other people who called out) I realized it doesn't matter how hard you work, just who likes you. Most valuable job related info i've ever received.

I called in sick once before. She asked me what was wrong and I told her. Said I need to go to the doctor to get a note to prove I'm sick. Except normal appointments aren't available on Saturday Nights nor Sunday and meant she wanted me to go to the ER...

Decided to quit right then and there.

I used to not call in sick but I got over it after seeing other coworkers with that same work ethic, working while disgustingly sick and spreading germs everywhere. Also I hate driving in traffic while sick.

After the swine flu scare, we were pretty much told not to come in if we're sick. But we're also expected to go to the doctor, and that is just a waste of time and $15. My dr will ask me what's wrong, tell me it's probably some kind of cold and to come back if I'm still sick in 3 weeks.

I usually email everyone when I'm sick. It's usually before office hours since I'm deciding about 2 hours before I start whether it's worth getting up and driving in. Then I usually spend a few hours on email anyway, so they get some value out of my paid sick day.
