This happens sometimes it is mess up. I remember in my youth after I was on a trampoline I would wake up and feel like I am bouncing. Similar but not the same.

A girl I dated in college kicked in her sleep, and would have these jump-starts right before she fell sleep sometimes too.

I can remember it happening to myself a few times as well, one time I kicked the wall next to my bed so hard I was sure I damaged it. Always assumed it had something to do with anxiety issues

Legit reasons bruh.

I get that a lot. Also the weird half asleep dreams where your conscious and unconscious mind seem to fight with each other and you have thoughts that make no sense.

Is there any actual legitimate science on this? I get them almost every night.
I read somewhere that in order to go to sleep your heart rate needs to below a certain speed, if your heart rate is too fast then in order to lower your heart rate your body lowers your breathing rate. The feeling of not breathing is the jolt that makes you feel like you're falling.

I used to get them years ago, then stopped drinking coffee after 5pm and they went away.

The last study I read on this indicated it was due to our bodies slowing down into a sleep state too quickly, and accidentally setting off our 'We're dying! Quick, try not to!' reflexes

It's a combination of our heart rate, blood pressure and breathing all dropping at once basically. Most of the time it's fine, just a quick jolting spasm to get the heart racing and blood flowing, maybe with a little adrenaline kicked in too, which can make it hard to sleep after.

If it's happening a lot, it may be an indication of not getting enough rest generally, or even a sign of underlying health issues.

How about when we dream of walking down a staircase and fall, waking up after? What's the deal with that? It used to be recurrent.

I also dreamt, more than once, that I died in a car crash. It feels so real that I sometimes think I had some serious car accidents, but it was all on dreams (except of one).
