I can't stand games where the basic attacks is bound to the trigger button and doesn't allow you to remap.

is waiting for Starfield 7
I'm a piano teacher so my fingers are supposed to be strong but my god, playing Hogwarts Legacy and spamming R2 to cast the basic attack is causing my index finger to ache.

And to make things worse, it doesn't allow you to remap the basic attack button to a face button.

What a crock of shit.

At least for souls games, the attacks are much slower so you don't have to spam the trigger buttons till your index finger ache.

Had to delete the game after playing for 10 minutes.

How do you finger the minor relative of C then ?

(About you problem, it is annoying not being able to remap buttons, but in hogswart case, spamming isn't the way to fight. You need to cast debuffs and spell combos like levitation and then bringing the foe down. It is what makes real damage and you won't have to spam anything.)

I have to say its actually the other way around, that thousands of hour of piano might destroy your finger instead of strengtening it.

Your finger ache from pressing R2? cmon man

This is why adjustable triggers is a great thing, but game level remapping functions are even better.

But only if the dev implemented that in that game settings, I believe

He's right, Switch 2 even lets you put button mapping on the quick menu from holding down the home button. Very nice to quickly swap profiles to fix some of their bad default setups...the catch is they disable it for third party controllers.

Useless for some games that bundle several actions to the same button, like Nightreign.
I wanted to switch the Dash with the Surge Sprint, but couldn't because the Dash is grouped with Roll and Backstep on the O button.
Devs should allow more refined control customisation in their games.

Forspoken is the game that nearly broke me. Forget all the issues people usually complain about, combat was basically you spamming R2 as fast as possible for 20 hours. I almost broke my finger by the end.

If I'm not mistaken it applies to ALL games because its remapping inputs at the system level. The games logic will still think you're pressing R2 when you remap it to Square, because the system is the middle man

Right....but we were talking "per game". Good that remapping is available at the system level though. Even better if there are profiles.

Right, but why are we talking per-game when it's system level? He deleted the game after 10 minutes which implies there was no solution.

The post I replied to referenced "per game". I was replying to that.

Oh I see. When he said "PS lets you save mappings per game" he didn't mean in-game, he meant profiles ;)

(Of course devs have control over buttons inside their own game, that can't be taken away by PS)

Can you create controller profiles on PS? I know you can with Edge, but just regular Dualsense?

Not being able to remap controls is always stupid. Just ultra laziness.

The worst is when you only have 2-4 preset control schemes, all of which will always not be what you want. Dishonored 2 takes the cake with that one. You want want attacking and blocking on r1 and l1? Sure, but now you'll have to duck with square. SQUARE!

Good question. I haven't used it myself but apparently it's there under Accessibility Options even for plain ole Dualsense.

It would change my life if Nintendo wouldn't take the feature away if you're on a third party pad though. You always need to pick your poison.

do you have to press it all the way? I havent played Hogwarts but i also dislike game that make you press the triggers alllll the way. If I just have to gently press it is fine.
