Killzone 1 (sorry, no gifs found, but it looked slightly around the level of Half-Life 1 on PS2, which honestly isn't that bad for a PS2 game).

Went from a game on PS2 that people would have simply called a Halo or Half-Life derivative/copy, to something that almost felt like playing a CGI war movie.

It was the biggest *gasp* moment during the PS3 reveal.

A lot of cheating going on in here by using high res images on hardware the game wasn't originally developed on to show a "gen difference".

I've seen the evidence presented ITT and I don't see how anyone can pick anything but GTA. It was a major jump inpretty much every way imaginable.
People here are comparing from one generation to half of another. Or between extremes. Or several years of difference. But I'll give you my personal case. I was playing this (beautiful) game in 1995:

And shortly after I was knee deep into this one:

No jump will ever be the same. When I hear how "transformative" RT is nowadays I can't help but to…

100% agree. The jump from 2D to 3D, no matter which example you're giving really, is a fundamental paradigm shift. Everything else is just iterative improvements. It's a tier above everything that is never going to be beaten and there's no way round that until someone invents another dimension.

One of the most interesting choices because it was early attempt at 3D in a primarily 2D era. If you disqualify 2D to 3D jumps on the grounds of fairness this might well take the top spot.
