I could cut one hour out of Endgame and make it a better movie

Holy shit this shit is long. Why did they think people who like mindless superhero set pieces would want to listen to dozens of scenes of people just sitting and talking about shit. Fuck you wachowski brothers
*sisters

I watched infinity war a few times. But only watched endgame at the theater. It was okayish. Kind of boring. I don't feel like watching it ever again. I'm done with MCU to be honest.

Much like The Last Jedi, I don’t think cutting it would help. It would be a mercy in that it would get you out the theater faster, yes.

I agree with you a large majority of the time. If only you also loved Last Jedi as much as I did.

Personally, I can't stand all the Marvel crap.

Same. Infinity War was an oddity though, in that it was really, really good. So. I went into Endgame with expectations, and got... a typical Marvel movie.

I’m surprised that the same writers and directors delivered such a crazily different quality. It’s like the college temptation, in that they poured their heart and soul into the first half of the assignment, burnt out, and gradually stopped caring through the second half, lol.

Yep. One of those movies that really should have taken a different direction with its plot.

When it became obvious they were going the time travel route, always a bad idea, I figured it would be more about Thanos chasing the Avengers through space and time like a slasher villain to prevent them from undoing the snap with Thanos wrecking house through previous action sequences from the other films. I always figured that instead of just cheaply writing in another army of faceless mooks that he would enlist other past villains like Hela, Ronan, Ultron, etc. so that we could finally get a proper superhero team vs supervillain team battle. But no, we get just another chitauri/ultron drone army style conflict on some completely bland battlefield conflict but far lazier.

I never saw the full movie and only watched scenes on youtube. I still feel like i saw the whole thing

Lol, Infinity War bored me to tears. Guardians of the Galaxy and Winter Soldier were chill enough, but they don't really have that superhero movie feel.

Ultimately, superhero movies just aren't my thing. I'm a Woody Allen fan. Sue me.

One of the biggest problems with the movie is that ‘our’ Thanos is killed off five minutes in. Then his replacement also doesn’t have a tiny fraction of the moral ambiguity or character that made him so spellbinding, just yelling about things, barely having any screentime, and being generic evil villain.

You don’t create the best character in the entire thing, then revert to a completely unknown version of him, that acts completely differently, and not build him up at all.

Yeah, it was completely boneheaded decision. You have the perfect setup for this meaty conflict and a truly satisfying conclusion not seen in pop culture since possibly Return of the Jedi and you just toss it away for essentially nothing but subversion for the sake of subversion.

Super hero movies suck when they’re not Batman, and they even let Affleck ruin that.

News at 11.

Grow up and understand why Alien and Ghostbusters are the best moving pictures ever made.

This movie was such a disappointment.

I assumed they'd bring everyone back but it should have been using the infinity stones after defeating Thanos or something.
The moment it became obvious they'd use time travel it went to shit. Most of it was filler too, they just put some crappy "hey remember the previous movies" shit in between them discovering time travel and the final fight....because I guess it couldn't be an hour and half long.

I rarely like MCU stuff, it always feels too formulaic, even with the characters I like, like Cap, Iron Man and Thor. However, Infinity War really was an amazing movie, the ending was unexpected and really, really well done. Endgame, in contrast, was nowhere near as good. You could cut out most of the gem collecting stuff and you wouldn't miss anything, in fact that would have made it a better movie. Most of the gem collecting scenes felt like filler, there were no stakes and feel more like fan service rather than legitimately building up any of the characters. Something that was incredibly annoying was that fat Thor joke. In the beginning is unexpected, it's funny, I laughed. The thing is, it went on way too long, and we never got the badass Thor again. Apparently a lot of it was some request by Chris Hemsworth to wear a fat suit and dude, someone needs to tell him he's not that funny.

It does redeem itself a bit in the end with a lot of satisfying fighting scenes and moments: Cap using Thor's hammer, the portal scene with all the MCU heroes coming through, Thanos sitting alone in the rubble waiting for the heroes. Some of those scenes actually had me grinning like a kid. Unfortunately, a lot of the fight itself felt like noise, there was a very good youtube video that explained why it was a missed opportunity, and it makes sense why the fight itself felt so inconsequential: there was no progression in the battle, the audience had no idea who was winning or losing territory, no heroes ever felt in danger and were just crushing nameless grunts after nameless grunts, and in the end it was all window dressing for the chase for the gauntlet, which was the only thing that in the end mattered.

It was an ok movie though, 6.5 or 7 out of 10, just very disappointing when compared to Infinity War. The sad/good part depending on how much of a MCU fan you are, is that this whole thing is dead after this. Some of the most charismatic and entertaining characters are out and the new movies seem like they are going for the woke angle, which, as we all know, ALWAYS results in better box office results. /s

Infinity war was worse, it was like 15+ 10 minute trailers with 20 minutes of half-decent plot and action at the end

All I can think about when people mention this movie is the teenage girl who screamed out 'AAWWWWWW" 14 times throughout the movie. If two people shook hands, if a kid was shown, if anyone kissed, anything at all. AAAAAWWWWW being yelled out during quiet moments in a full theater :messenger_tears_of_joy:

So apparently some people were liking it.

I wanted that Infinity War Part II, I don't get that. Instead it was a film that started, killed Thanos and the restarted five years later just so they could give Tony a kid as motivation. Then it was an MCU victory lap sucking itself off and the final battle was just a sea of brown washed out colours.

Still it made more money than Avatar, and that's what's really important.

the ending battle was just a clusterfuck. Dr Strange was a cosmic uber and a levy
i just don't understand how you can let this shit slide during the editing process

Thread sort of bums me account because these are valid complaints I’m being reminded of.
I’m not too fond of Tony inventing time travel on a whim, for one thing. It’s asking too much of me, and those in the know - know - that even superhero films have limits when it comes to suspension of disbelief. And as others have said, the action, fan-pleasing moments aside, was dull and without tension.
That said, there is plenty to enjoy there, especially for long time fans.

Infinity War and Endgame are like polar opposites of each other. The pacing of Infinity War was great because the entire movie takes places over a single 24 hour period, it's just constant action and reaction to the events unfolding. Endgame was over FIVE YEARS and multiple weeks and felt like it dragged.

yeah infinity war was light years better.

all the time travel shit was some legends of tomorrow tier stuff with bigger budget...

I'm sure a Justin Bieber album sold record number of albums, doesn't make it good.

I liked Winter Soldier, Guardians 1, Civil War, and Thor Ragnarok and that's about it. I've never watched any of the Avengers movies more than once.

Only superhero movies I've liked are Blade 1, Christian Bale's Batman 1 and 2, and Wonder Woman..... and Dark Phoenix (it was a surprisingly dark gritty movie with only maybe 3 jokes in it. I thought it was going to be like the typical Avengers movie with jokes every minute).

I havent seen all the Avenger, spin offs and Spiderman movies, but the ones I saw are cheesey crap. Fantastic 4 and Hulk movies might be worst of them all. Black Panther was meh too.

Miku above mentioned Winter Soldier. Never saw it. But I think that's the Cap movie people say is gritty. Maybe I'll check it out one day.

Yeah, you'd like it. Easily the most realistic and gritty action of any of the Marvel movies. Civil War in the first half of the movie is just as good, then the 2nd half of the movie goes all Disney magic crap.

I could post about 5 top tier fight videos from Winter Soldier, but there's minimal spoilers.

Weirdly, opposite to my nature, I'm all in.

MCU - It's gonna be real cheesy, even without murrican flags waving in the background. I was always very interested in RDJ and Ruffalos performance and RDJ being a pivot delighted me to no end.
Star Wars - if I start watching, I'll finish it. I have done so through TV viewings of the Star Wars movies as a child and had to rewatch some of them to get the full movie due to parental bullshit.
The singular character ones were always going to be meh, especially the origin stories - apart from Iron Man and Black Panther.

All very formulaic but some of the stuff can be kinda cool.

I haven't seen Infinity War or Endgame. I just had people from work tell me what happens to save me six hours.

Can't be fucked with the fanbase getting mad at character development or character traits. Getting mad at Star-Lord because he explodes in a fit of rage when someone he cares about is torn away from him. GOTG2>>>>Most Marvel movies btw.

I kinda wanna watch Black Panther though but I watched Coming to America recently and it's the same shit but better. 🤷‍♂️

That's why I don't read shit about movies. I don't want to hear peoples opinions, I'd like to have my own, as pure as I can. I don't watch reviews, trailers, nuffin. And as a worst case scenario, I'll watch the movie 3 years later, which happened to me with Lucky Number Slevin. Which was a fantastic movie.

Watch Black Panther, its good enough and entertaining.

It's a really dumb scene. Starlord has no special powers (most of the time). He's a rogue that gets by on his wits and street smarts. In the scene, they literally have the whole thing won and wrapped up, and he steps in to ruin it like a child and pistol whips Thanos and wakes him up while everyone is begging him not to. It's really, really bad writing.

To be fair, he literally finds out that the person he loves is dead, because of Thanos, seconds before. That is not a recipe for rational thinking, from a person not famed for rational thinking, or much intelligence. To me, it makes sense.

What bothered me was like 3 notable heroes and a crew of rejects taking down Thanos that easily in the first place, or even having the chance to.

Yeah, I guess. If he started shooting him in the face, that would be better. But he bops him in the face with his gun instead, a god who is holding the power of the universe. It's just kinda too ridiculous for me.

It's kind of crazy how little action there is and what is there is some of the weakest stuff in the franchise. Now, you could get away with that if you're doing some compelling character work but they dont even do that.

What? This movie has some of the best action in the MCU, especially the epic climactic battle.

It's a very poorly structured fight that doesnt really tell a story of its own and visual sludge. It has a couple of moments but alot of them ring hollow for various reasons. It also has so many characters that a bunch of them end up doing basically nothing.
