Days like these...

Have a Blessed Day
Seeing the Val Kilmer and Selena's posts on here. I have empathy for their families but the rest of you... I don't get it.

It's really unhealthy. People build up these false relationships with celebrities and twitch/youtube streamers through years of consuming their content. It's an easy trap to fall into and can happen to anyone. You love the content so much that you begin to consume it regularly, you then learn and understand their routines, sense of humour, personal stories etc. In the end, you think you know them and you think they know you because you feel they relate to on so many levels. It's all very scary and indicative of the times we live in.

I've been seeing clips of ishowspeed - a youtube streamer - trending on X over the last few days as he has been streaming in China. The behaviour from fans has been wild.

No connection or affection for celebrities or famous people. But you can appreciate or like what they do. It is also bread into the culture to worship celebrities, so even if you don't think you are influenced you probably are. You form an opinion. I can see it happen in my daughter, she loves certain musicians (they do magic). That is what all media is trying to do, shape opinion.

I believe for most sane people it is about the end of the artist and not the person. After all, most of us do not really know the person. For someone like Selena, it is unfulfilled potential. For someone like Val Kilmer, it is nostalgia and reflecting on the work he left behind.
