I don't want to be prejudiced...

Two of my friends play WoW. A third has just been given a 10 day pass to try it out.

I've dismissed this because it seemed generic orc/fantasy bollocks. Plus its an MMORPG, which I have an irrational hatred of.

but hearing them talking about it at lunch everyday, it actually sounds interesting.

Can people explain what they find interesting about it? Since playing the BF2 demo the whole 'team play' element has me interested again for the first time since CS. Is WoW the same?

Is there a demo I can download? Or a website where people share 10 day passes?

All I know is that there's a grille up the street from me that makes great chicken parm sandwiches and cheesesteaks but their prep time has gone from 10-15 minutes to 20-25 minutes because the two guys that run the place have installed two PCs in the back area where they play WoW side by side. :)

Don't get sucked into it, man. It's one of those games that are just not fun but fool you into thinking they are. WoW compared with a good game, say F-Zero GX, is like doing drugs compared with making love.

The former might get you high, and you might think you're having fun, but ithe high is not caused by anything that you accomplished. It's just a freebee thrown in to get you addicted and dependent.

they gave you a trail, try it out yourself

the hook of a MMO is subjective...either way, you will only know if you like it after you try because the benefit of a MMO is near fucking impossible to explain...one of those things that must be experienced to be understood

What if you're addicted to sex- is that bad? :)

W.O.W. will satisfy your ego and repair every single scratch on it. While also slowly destroying your social life in reality and altering your perception and jugement in real life.
Please don't dude. Don't. It's worse than religion.

I think it depends how. If you're in love with someone and you can't get enough of her/him physically, it's probably not a bad thing. It's like being addicted to playing soccer -- I don't think anyone can say that's bad.

But if you're like depressed and you need physical stimulation just to keep you going, it's probably best to learn to control yourself.

I know nothing about the human body. If you follow my advice you might die -- or become homeless -- so be careful.

WoW is the most "fun" MMO I've played. Period. You can solo, or group, and make progress even if you don't play a lot. In that respect it's quite a decent casual player game. Azeroth is a very well realized world, the quest system is quite well implimented and there is lots to do.

Regarding team play; you can solo for the majority of the 1-60 game, minus instanced dungeons and some quests. I prefer 5-man groups for end game instances like Strath, scholo, LRBS, Dire maul north and west because team play is VERY important. Raids are fun too, just not as rewarding to me because the groups success doesn't hinge on me doing my job well.

Hard to say for certain if the game is really for you, because everyone has different tastes, but it's worth trying. Especially if a friend can get you can get a 10 day pass.

Fuck off. It's like I walked into the OT for a second...

lol He asked for an opinion, i gave mine in his face. MMORPGs are pretty much "anti-games" to me. I won't elaborate here though (off topic).

i gave up wow a few months ago but now im right back in the middle... im obsessed with getting 60 so i can play battlegrounds and be ready for whatever else they have in store. :O

Bah.

I play FFXI, but I know it sucks.

This is why MMORPGs are evil. They all suck, the battle systems are boring, and they're not worth paying monthly fees for when there are so many better games out there to buy.

Yet I feel compelled to play like there is a gun to my head. ):

Is there a good game underneath it all, or does it just reward time invested with progression? Cause thats the thing, I can't devote huge amounts of time to games these days.

But they talk about sitting on the beach at sunset, fishing, and it all sounds a little like Zelda.

BTW, I don't have a guest pass. 1st guy gave his to 2nd guy. 2nd guy fell for it and gave his to 3rd guy. 3rd guy is installing it tonight. If he buys it he might have a pass for me...

Make sure you have the TIME to play this game. You'll generally get nothing done in 1-2 hour spurts. Dungeon crawls are a major commitment. Also it takes a long time to get from A------>B.

Of course it's basically about raising you character and yes you have to invest alot of time (though maybe less than most MMORPGs)

Great game to play, but when you hit 60 and run through the same instances over and over, it gets a bit stale. I quit a few months ago, but I'll go back once they release the expansion.

WoW was my first MMO, and I loved it. Like you, I'm not a guy that plays games for 4 hours a day either. I didn't play a lot (maybe 10 hours a week) and I made it to level 37 in two months. Rest experience *really* rewards the casual player. It's excellent.

There really is no "game" asside from getting that extra bit of loot, or making it to the next level. What really kept me playing was the world's atmosphere the exploration, and the interaction with GAF members. It will probably cause your game queue to backup even further; you won't want to play any other game beside this one. That's actually what made me cancel my subscription.

Wow, that just made me laugh. Thanks! I needed that! :lol
