I enjoyed the Talos Principle 2 characters and story because there are no humans

I'm one of those weirdos who usually don't care about the story in videogames and is easily annoyed with cinematic games or too much dialog.

But i didn't mind The Talos Principle 2. Even though the game has a lot of dialog and it's pretty story heavy, it didn't annoy me as much as i was expecting. And i think part of it is that they are all robots and they all look the same, with only the coloring of their armor changing and the number on their chest. They don't even have facial animations to portray emotions. The only real difference between them is their uploaded personality.

And then i remembered i also enjoyed the story and dialog in Portal 2 and this can't be a coincidence.

There's also the advantage that robots don't have to follow any DEI rules... they have no race, no gender (just male/female sounding personalities), no such thing as disabilities, no obesity, no skin conditions, no sexual preferences, no nothing. Just different personalities sharing ideas without superficial characteristics to identify with. And while there are some personalities that were more annoying than others, i didn't mind it.

Seems like i'm not a huge fan of humans in videogames then? I was a fan of Samus but she was usually behind the Power Suit and didn't talk. I stopped liking her after OtherM.

Maybe it's the way human characters are portrayed in story heavy games? Videogames still can't do realistic humans well and certainly they can't do facial animations that look realistic enough. So when they try so hard to be "emotional" they all end up being embarrassing. Cringe is the word. That's what i feel whenever i see videogame characters trying to act emotional and taking themselves too seriously.

But robots, i don't mind. Make more games with those please. Also, recommend some good games that lack humans.

yes but the story still sucked. the first game was better in everything. i liked 2, but i loved 1
I was about to go back to this thanks for the reminder, I really hope it locks to 60fps in the Fidelity mode with the extra PS5 Pro power
game solid 60fps in most areas on base ps5. they updated fsr to the last version, likely 3. IQ is much much better now. they patched plenty of things, the audio and plenty others stuff. great support. talking about talos principle 2

Hmm, i don't know. First one takes place in the simulation, the sequel takes place in the real world. I thought it was interesting though i admit, this energy thing that allowed you to build any structure you want was a bit too much.

I do like my existential crisis stories though.

It's interesting that the big meaty puzzle games are usually surrounded by existential / end of world settings.

I really liked Talos Principal 2. I liked that the story was presented while I'm running around solving puzzles at my own pace. You get to learn the struggles of what the characters are to do with their own futures.
Perfectly good use of time story.

I thought this was going to be a bender bender thread

Agreed, the first is a masterpiece for me, but 2 is still great.

Good to hear, IQ was a bit blurry on Perf mode before imo but the constant double buffered v-sync hard framerate drops soured the Fidelity mode.

Lumen has some very distracting ghosting issues though. There are some surfaces where the ghosting is so bad, it almost looks like it's an intentional effect.
