Mii characters are genderless on Nintendo Switch 2

If this really isn't that big of a deal as some people in this thread are suggesting, then why would Nintendo feel the need to put this language on the Mii style selection screen? Also, notice how they used the term "specific gender" instead of stating which style would be reflected as which gender? Why do you think that is?

Nintendo are being purposefully vague on this screen because it's such a hot button issue and someone will be mad no matter what they do.

If they call them male/female people will be angry.
If they call them body type A/B people will be angry.

They chose to simply present them as 'styles' instead of genders, each unnamed, and leave it up to the user's interpretation of what the pictures mean. To well adjusted people, it's obviously a man and a woman.

The language of the sentence below it suggests Nintendo are deferring to individual games the association of either of those 'styles' with a specific gender. So if you pick what's obviously the male, but in someone's deranged head cannon they think that's a female, they can't be upset at Nintendo for the outcome when they boot up Trad Life Simulator 2025.

So, you get to select male or female... but Nintendo tries to hide it under Style 1 and Style 2 names not to offend the USA woke weirdos??

This reasoning has a couple of flaws:

1 - We can't equate people advocating for basic biology to crazies who can't tell a man from a woman. These two stances are not equal. Actually, they are opposite.

2 - The fact that Nintendo doesn't want to trigger the crazies is bad enough.

Whoever is offended by the words man/woman male/female is a lunatic that should only be listened by a therapist. It's dangerous that companies adjust to these people, becase that validates an unhealthy state of mind.

It isn't equating the two stances. I know they aren't equal. The entire issue though is how Nintendo goes about handling this issue preciesly because the two stances are diametrically opposed. It's a "catch-22", a no win situation for them.

Nintendo are a company interested in making as much money as possible. The only reasoning they act on is maximizing profits. That's it. They don't have skin in the game when it comes to philosophizing about which of the two stances is correct. They only know that if they really piss off one side that they might end up with controversy, boycotts and a loss in sales. No company wants that and people don't want it either, hence the "no politics in games" stance many people live by. So Nintendo try and carefully tread a middle ground as best they can.

What people are basically wanting here is for Nintendo to explicitly come down on one side of the issue, but as a business it's simply not in their best interest. What makes more sense:

- mega based gigachad Nintendo proclaiming there are only two genders, MALE and FEMALE, as a result shutting off the money tap to Reee types far and wide who buy millions of their games
- or just do a vague selection screen where if you're a guy you pick what's obviously the guy pic and a women picks obviously the woman pic and everyone just kind of moves on after thinking about it for 5 seconds?

Nintendo has always succeeded by remaining a family company (yes they allow dirty games etc, but they make it easy to have a ton of clean, wholesome family content on every system)... if they start to lose that in order to cater to online freaks, then for the first time in my life I would hope for them to fail. Not yet -- this small is just on the line. But if they go any further then yes, they deserve to lose.

The thing about such a low effort text rewrite is that no one really wins. Trans communities will see that it's still split by sex on a coding level and see through the transparent attempt, and everyone else will see it for the shallow attempt it is.

They're better off not bothering and just being honest that it's a male/female split and getting on with it. It's not like they cater to amputees or people with extra limbs either.

The problem with this (as in the argument being made) is whether Nintendo has purposely done so to make a statement, or have they simply just not added the text Male and Female.

I just don't see nintendo Japan giving a fuck to be honest about western DEI LGBTQADOWADLJASLD+ nonsense 🤷‍♂️

You live in a small world if you think that is one of the biggest problems of this world. 😪😅

It is, at least for the youngest generations, because they are overwhelmingly the ones being targeted by sick pieces of shit who tell them it's okay to mutilate themselves, chemically or otherwise, to feel more "comfortable" in their bodies. So many children being manipulated and having their lives ruined before they've even had a chance to fully mature is indeed a big issue in this demented modern world of ours.
