I feel betrayed by Square Enix

I don't think OP is serious. This is satire. Just wait until we see that Uncharted trilogy on PC, Mac and maybe NS2. That will be a real moment.

Truthfully though, these companies are going bankrupt with their current business models on some of these AAA games. If you were making a movie or music album, you would want the widest audience possible. You would want your product everywhere. In this day and age, how come games are any different?

So have you guys ever felt cheated by the gaming industry?

For me, the worst case just happened. I just received news that the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy is now coming to the Nintendo Switch II. :(

FF7 is a distinctly PlayStation franchise and should never appear on any other platform.

It's just not right. FF7 made the PlayStation and the PlayStation made FF7.

I feel lost right now, but hopefully the Japanese will boycott this egregious decision by Square Enix.
How old are you? Serious question.

Anyway, as long as they didn't just shoot themselves in the foot and bring dishonor...

Sorry guys, had to do big throwback to ff13 on xbox thread, that was fricken hillarous, especially in hindsight when we know xbox version was way more blurry, didnt sell too well anyways and game besides looking pretty was big disgrace to the franchise :D
Just a quick reminder of how xbox CEO's were back then, not those soft cuckholds of today :D
If u are newer/younger gaming bro, i strongly encourage u to read it to get the feel of early ps360 gen and bloody af console war from back then, gotta know ur console war lore, u younglings :D

Actual og relic of ancient civilisation console war trolling that became worldwide meme:

Pure genius

This reminds me of the chuckle I had when FFX became its "own franchise". You know with "Final Fantasy Ten Two"

No, it's NOT the same franchise that started on Nintendo! It's a NEW franchise that started on Playstation!

The real betrayal is actually the last 2 FF games and how Expedition 33 shits on everything they've done in the last 20 years.

How can a French indie studio of 33 employees on their first try make a better JRPG than a Japanese company with 4,770 employees (google) that has been specializing in the genre for almost 40 fucking years?

There's no way to put Rebirth on Switch2. And the 3rd part won't make it there either. Intergrade on Switch2 is basically marketing for the Playstation trilogy.
What makes Rebirth different from the other PS5 games that will come to Switch 2.

Hard to tell if this fake cringe is worse than real Pikmins still mad at Square for ditching N64.

At least they will stop overhyping FF6 as the best in the series.

I love ff6, it was part of golden age of final fantasy, aka 5,6,7,8,9 and 10, personally ff7 is best coz thats first game in the series i played/ first love back from my highschool days, but all the other ff games from the series prime time are at least 9,5/10 in my books :D

Right, so there is a way to put Rebirth on Switch 2.
There is. I think I have already acknowledged that. My first post saying "No way!" was a common way to express disbelief, and people here get all triggered and start pointing to all these obvious shit.

Then some argue FF7 remake series on the SW2 is going to be something like the proper "Rebirth" of that series, or the second coming just because it's on SW2 and it's Japan, and I tell you, it's going to be a gimped version looking like vaseline, 30fps and under, on an expensive cartridge + a sizeable download via Game Key, it's going to limit its sales potential enormously, not to mention SW2 small installed base, and the game competing with Nintendo software for the user's money.

On top of all that, FF simply not being a shadow of what it used to be specially in Japan. And that's the main problem it hasn't sold well like previous titles and a SW2 version won't change that. It's not MH, it's certainly not DQ, and while it won't be a flop, it will fail to impress, and Square Enix won't catch a break. Also, Game keys, specially big ones like a FF Rebirth would be will not be well-received by the Japanese audience.

My Friend. It's been like 28 years, since the original.

Times have changed and more people can now benefit from experiencing this particular segment of the Final Fantasy series.

It's a good time for all who can enjoy it.

It's not a magic turnaround for the franchise, but it is a step in the right direction. Having Remake on Switch 2 this year and Rebirth next year helps build a fanbase for the franchise on that platform. It paves the way for future FF mainline games and spin offs to launch on PS/PC/NS2

I don't expect this to be a dramatic change and make FF a mega franchise, but it will noticeably increase the sales of future games. Switch 2 owners will be completely fine with third party games that don't look as good as the PS5 versions.

What an entertaining read, phew fanboys were a lot more serious back then. Was a bit confused by the constant use of Megaton and Betrayalaton but figured it out after I googled it. 😁

The answer is Scope creep.

Sandfall didn't have disposable income. They had to get creative and plan ahead how far they could take things and what not. Is why the open world is limited and not a sandbox.

Square got over their heads with FFXIII, when they wanted to make the game a playable movie, something I feel they nailed with FF7 Remake and Rebirth, but that led them to a poorly received trilogy and the ten years in the making FFXV, which felt like a wet fart because of how ambitious and incomplete it is.

Square needs focus. Grab an idea, develop that idea and move on to the next idea. Fuck, the whole industry needs focus.

i thought ff 7 was going to be on n64 but square couldnt do it on a cartridge
That's only the cover story, yes.

The truth is, Square was moving towards more mature themes in Final Fantasy, which didn't mesh well with Nintendo's family friendly image.

Steam deck plays digital only games, is the SW2 version full digital only?
You have literally lost all track of the conversation, which shouldn't be surprising, if I moved goalposts as often as you do, I too would lose track of what bullshit I was spewing in the first place

just going to put in my 2 cents to say that I played FFVII for the first time on the PC, and never even owned a Playstation back in those days -- so I also didn't think of it as uniquely locked to the PS brand in its time, more like a "time exclusive" as we'd call it today

Nobody tell him what company final fantasy originally started on!
I don't think his heart can handle it.

I have always viewed FFVII as a "soft" PS franchise but blame this on PS fans not showing out and getting FF Rebirth to do bigger numbers. IMO, Sony/PS betrayed gaming by continously chasing hollywood production/budgets that led AAA gaming to it's dying state today. I love the FFVII remake series and it deserves a bigger audience than what it is finding by being exclusive to PS consoles. I will be supporting the FFVII series on the Switch 2, as well as DQ12 on the Switch 2.
