Yup, exactly how I vision "bronies" to be.

Not all bronies

i didnt even think pop was a genre of music.

Well, it derives from popular, doesn't it? You could make an argument that what's defined as R & B, alternative rock, dubstep et al are as popular as your typical pop song nowadays, at least in demographics that matter.

It seems to me like you really don't know the whole spectrum of "indie" and "authentic" music. Also, yes you said that a lot of Pop is more inventive. That's why I used the word.

You're right, I probably don't know the whole spectrum of 'indie' and 'authentic' music. I'm not a music journalist.

I'm still not entirely clear where you think the problem with what I'm saying is though. Is it the worlds 'a lot'? Is it the suggestion that any pop music could be more inventive than any 'authentic' music?

Mind you I think G-Fex has me on ignore so he won't know that I love him and want to marry him and kiss his peen and stuff.

What's wrong with pop music? What are we assuming pop music sounds like? Is it all similar? I'm confused.

I can't imagine why anyone would have you on ignore, dear.

popgaf is capable of appreciating things made by large groups of people

othergaf gets image conscious when they can't namedrop individuals, so they worry about things like "true talent", how "manufactured" something is, etc

popgaf winnin' this one

I just wish they had better taste. There is good pop music and then there is radio-inspired trash. They seem to prefer the latter.

I wonder what the crossover is like with Gay-GAF. ;)

I like pop. Out of my circle of friends I'm probably one of the ones who are most willing to let Radio 1 be on in the background and hum along to Call Me Maybe or whatever new tune is the big fad. I think pop is a really good genre.

With that said, I just leave it at the songs. Pop-GAF take it so seriously they're up there with Wrestle-GAF as the worst of the worst when it comes to shitting up threads.

What a huge case of "stop liking stuff I don't like".

I'm not into "diva pop" like Britney or Gaga (not even into most music in English), but I don't think it's wrong that other people like it. My favorite genres are pop and rock, I don't see what's so wrong about simple, fun, catchy music, I always think of it as preferring eating a burger instead of sophisticated dish. There are plenty of talented, creative pop artists out there, hating the genre as a whole is just silly.

As for Pop GAF, they're just very rough on slow internet :P

I wonder what anime fans look like, video game fans, and comic book fans and bronies look like.

Chances are they all go to one convention at one point.

I went to one con... NEVER AGAIN.

Anyways, I've pretty much developed a theory on why people like pop music based on my own experience:

  1. The Singer(s) is(are) attractive
  2. There is some sort of dance to the song
  3. A few of their songs are catchy or have a hook
  4. They enjoy primarily feel good music
  5. The Singer(s) is(are) attractive

I think the image of the group (or singer) has a LOT to do with whether or not people enjoy a specific group or artist.

I think Call Me Maybe is a legitimately good song. Make fun of it all you want, but the writing is spectacular. It's so simplistic yet totally catchy. Also, the lyrics are brilliant. "I just met you; and this is crazy; but here's my number; so call me maybe". What's genius about it is that giving your number to someone you just met is decidedly uncrazy - it's perfectly socially acceptable and is in fact the default method for continuing to get to know someone better. I'm overanalysing, of course, but that's pretty post-modern.

I can feel you on most of pop-GAF though - it's weird. I remember a thread a while ago that decided that what's her name... the American Idol singer.... (looks it up) Kelly Clarkson was the "best" female vocalist alive - which seems patently absurd to me.

Ch.... Just cause your fave never MADE IT doesn't mean you gotta take your frustration on us tho.

MEHrina and the Cubic Zirconias remain the side acts that no one cares about. Poor Dat

She should change her look again. Maybe she'll MATTER next time

I'm sure they nice people, but like with most cliques (see: pony people), they tend to blur together after awhile. But hey, not all of us are about having our own identities. If it makes you feel like you belong, then more power to ya.

oh snap. really?

hiphop gaf > pop gaf come onnnnnn.

How corny is hip hop gaf? I make a few posts about liking Rick Ross many months ago and to this day random hip hop gaf posters follow me into threads making random comments about Rick Ross being fat, as if I'm supposed to effected by their posts

Some of us don't care if our faves never make it. Not many people seem to give props to my gurl Natasha of Bat for Lashes, but I still love her!

You do realize that anyone who is really passionate about music can be a music snob, right? Pop Gaffers can be musc snobs too.

And who cares if people are music snobs? I applaud people that are passionate about music, because I'm the same way. I love that I'm a music snob, especially if I can introduce friends to new music and they enjoy it.

PopGAF is awesome.

I mean, the one GAF poster I loathe is a regular there, but they're mostly great, fun people.
