:lol I've never seen one up close before so my eyes lit up when I realized what I was looking at.

I was getting off from work and as I was walking to the car, this huge ass green thing flew by me. I didn't know WHAT the fuck it was, so I went over to where it landed and I was like, "OMG! A Praying Mantis! Oooo...look how...uh...weird it looks!"

I ran and got a styrofoam cup and brought it back home.

I let it go in my back yard. It's been about an hour since I let it go, and I went back outside to see if it was still there, and it's in the same area as it was an hour ago.

I was so fascinated by it (from what I've heard and read about them). I took like a million pictures. Here are some of the better ones:

A friend of mine had one as a pet (purchased from a pet store) back in elementary school, but it died about a month later. It refused to eat for some reason.

It looks so puzzled. Maybe by its sudden relocation. Maybe by its own existence.

The first shot I got by chance. It was reaching upwards (trying to latch on to that container) and since it was kinda stretched out, I took a picture of that one.

When I was circling it, trying to get a nice shot, it kept cocking its head toward me, like it was about to pounce on me or something. :lol

I let it go in my back yard. It's been about an hour since I let it go, and I went back outside to see if it was still there, and it's in the same area as it was an hour ago.

You realize he's just waiting for the right time to kill you and your family, right?

I used to see them all the time when I was younger. Scary ass things. I remember one time my friend goes, "Whoa, you got a praying mantis on your shoulder!" I looked onto my sweatjacket and there was a brown mantis with bright red eyes right next to my face on my right shoulder.

I freaked, threw off my jacket and took off running. :lol

The mantis you photographed is actually one of the tamer looking ones that I've ever seen. Are they supposed to be getting endangered as a species?

EDIT: I went back outside to see if it was still there...and it's in this crouching position that scared me when I finally found it.

It climbed onto of this thing in our yard.

I remember when I was younger coming across one in our driveway. I kicked it trying to get rid of it, but all it did was cock its head to the side and stared at me for a moment, as if to say "What the fuck do you think your doing?" Next thing I know, the thing is charging at me!

I bolted inside, running like a sissy.

wow that sucker is huge! I didn't know they ate birds. When i was younger i found two of them fighting once on my peach tree. What a sight to behold.

I think them getting endangered has a lot to do with their mating ritual. Doesn't the female eat the head of the male afterwards or something freaky like that?
