I Got Makai Kingdom Thread

The term has been around in MUD and RPG circles for some time, and refers to the act of obsessively tweaking or tuning a character for min/max performance.

Damn Final Fantasy taught me nothing growing up!

You newsgroup relics never cease to surprise.

I think folks daunted by Phantom Brave will find Makai Kingdom a lot more accessible and a little more in line with traditional SRPGS.

Aww...

I was hoping the Vehicles and Structures would add the replacement strategy in the absence of Titles and Combining.

How is the story in your opinion

The story's funny; even though the anime schtick has really worn on me, I still find myself laughing at the stupid faces Zetta The Book makes. He's a pretty charming asshole in the vein of Laharl, and the "competing Overlord" plot is easily mined for satire and goofball non-sequitur gags. There's a lot of digs at convention RPG design in the story.

Mmmm twinking. I actually liked that a lot about Phantom Brave, very indepth customization once you get past that incredibly huge first hurdle or so. Titles, Weapon fusions, character fusions, and etc are all fun to mess around with when trying to make that insanely powerful character or weapon. It's a lot better in Disgaea in that regard but Disgaea is just a lot more accessible and controlled in terms of character growth. When I think about it, I very rarely twink (at least to the definition of the term) and Phantom Brave was kind of an exeception to that since it was so fun making stupidly strong characters. Nothing quite as amusing as seeing a Merchant or Healer be as strong as Ash or the Valkyrie/Fighters with a melee weapon.

do these nippon ichi strategy games play similar to Final Fantasy Tactics PSX? FFT is the only console strategy game I have played, and I really liked it.

But do the Prism Rangers appear, thast the burning question

I dunno, Phantom Brave is a little TOO exploitable. Hell, my Marona was doing 20000+ damage per hit when i finished the game, haha.

Got it today..:) It's an aweome game Doom_Bringer!

I BOUGHT IT!

But like Phantom Brave it sits unplayed. I await my copies of La Pucelle and Disgaea, should arrive some time next week, and THEN I can vainly attempt to play through Nippon Ichi's strat rpgs chronologically.

You might just want to skip La Pucelle, I didnt play it myself but its pretty much universally poo poo'ed on. I think the main reason the people who do like it, like it, is because of GIANT BEWBZ on the characters.

Playing both Disgaea and Phantom Brave should be played before Makai Kingdom so you fully appreciate the melding of the two games in Makai.

Well I doubt I'll hate La Pucelle since I have yet to play Disgaea, Phantom Brave or Makai Kingdom. The only reason people dislike the game is because its sequels(?) get better with each iteration, and it was seen as a step back.

I'll just keep slugging through Atelier Iris until those games arrive.

I've yet to even play more than 10 mins on Disgaea since I bought it 2 years ago, La Pucielle sits, never having been played yet, along with Phantom Brave as well...

I'll get to them when I retire, I suppose.

I want more NIS games here, so I mostly bought them to support NIS. We've really got it good now, in terms of RPG's and the like... It's nice to be able to pick and choose.

And I choose NIS's games.

I bought Makai Kingdom, on the way to work, today.

And I forgot it at work, (Doh!) in one of our office desks. Luckily, it is the weekend, and I can just go get it tommorow when i return.

Hey, at least I've started on Atelier Iris. (A nice game so far as well.)

I have La Pucelle, Disgaea and Phantom Brave still waiting to be played. I've tried playing Disgaea for a while but the game has too many stuff to do... I dunno its too deep for me. I prefer simpler SRPGs like Shining Force where u only control the main characters who are all diverse & don't have to create characters & stuff.

So uh the question is should I buy Makai Kingdom? Is it deep as Disgaea? Oh I bought Atelier Iris though and it ROX!!! Just love traditional RPGs :D

i bought it at frys ($39).

it better be good ladies, cause come august 9th this shit is getting thrown into the stack with all of my other unplayed games. i only have time for madden & socom 3!

Just a question.
Is it true that ALL the maps in the game are randomly generated?
That would disappoint me,I think that static battlefields are more balanced and can offer more interesting strategy elements.Random maps are good for leveling up like in previous Nippon Ichi games.

No the story based maps are set.

As for La Pucelle, never played it but yeah, the vibe I got was that it was 'the worst' of the 4.

They're half-set, half random. THe extensions are somewhat randomized. Personally, I like it, but then again I love ANYTHING randomized except maybe Coded Arms.

makai kingdom is a set of random elements set on top of random elements that are made from random elements

n1 games are in their own genre really, i will call it math strategy

Just got my copy (finally) from NIS with the guide, artbook, and decal. I wish they didn't suck so bad at packaging, my artbook came pretty dinged up. Other than that and the week ship time, I'm happy.

My artbook came in pretty bad shape too. I haven't opened the case yet, but unless the Decal is in there, they didn't ship it. I should probably check into that. Came pretty late, too. Arrived last night.

While La Pucelle is essentially considered to be the worst (from the vibe I get), it's the only one I could get into and I loved it. Phantom Brave was garbage, but that couldn't keep me away from purchasing Makai Kingdom this morning. I swear to god, if Marona makes a surprise cameo I'm going to destroy my television...

Weird, mine was seperate. Also, I supsected it when I first got the package, but I actually unwrapped the game, and the disc was floating around loose. All around, pretty shitty shipping by NIS, I'm definetely not ordering direct from them again. Decal wasn't worth a scratched disc and a banged up artbook.

Well, the decal was just tucked right into the artbook, which was beat up thanks to the shitty envelope they sent everything in. The game disc, manual, and case were fine, at least. Sorry to hear that your stuff arrived smashed, though. Might wanna consider contacting them for a replacement.

Is there an offical soundtrack? or plans for one?

Oh thats right, it was Phantom Kingdom. Thanks
