I got the souls fatigue, pa!

My personal experience is playing dark souls 1-3. Loved them jank warts and all. But I also have not a lot of interest of "souls likes" tried Wuchang, not in the mood for this shit. One day I'll start Elden Ring and I'm sure it'll hook me yada yada. But it's hard to start it, like am I ready for the stress? Idk.

Earlier post said it good, the hard focus on bosses rather than dungeon crawling is something I agree with. I enjoy the minion fighting more than bosses.

When you hit 35 it became harder to hit the 200ms parry window to avoid souls fatigue.
Idk I just best Expedition 33 and I don't feel like I've lost my step. I think when you do get older you are more honest with yourself whether you are having fun or not.

Like so I want to play Souls or do I want to want to play Souls haha.

Yeah, I got it about halfway through Lies of P, last year. I still finished it though.

I have the Lords of the Fallen (2.0) just sitting there on my Series X, waiting to be booted up. I just need a break.

I gave up after Elden ring, I just stopped caring. It was just open world dark souls. Could have called it Dark Souls 4 and nothing would be different. I don't have as much free time any more, my interests have widened over the years, and I don't have the patience for games that don't respect my time.

I love the exploration and looting in these games but don't have fun with the bosses. Can usually figure it out and advance but some of the Elden Ring bosses (especially in the DLC) just weren't fun. Feel like there's better ways for me to spend my time than memorizing attack patterns for bosses.

It's funny you say that. That's PRECISELY what I'm been gravitating towards.

Much easier on the psyche 😂
I'm you three years from now. Succumb to the Xenoblade. Resistance is futile.

I love From games, but it would not surprise me if their next big release was a flop.

Last Jedi's box office was gigantic but the content killed the next movies.

I think a third of people who started Elden Ring actually finished it and many people who bought it probably felt a bit mis-sold i.e. open world game from creator of Game of Thrones or fatigued if they finished it.

For me From gameplay lends itself to specific levels and close knit worlds - the volume to Elden Ring is offputting for a second playthrough.

I've been playing Souls games since 2008, and I'm still going strong. I recently picked up Wuchang and Wulong. Yes, I do take long breaks from games whenever my job demands it.

I have been a From Software fanboy since 2009 with Demon's Souls. I know what you mean about getting burned out. I also go through phases where I don't have the energy or desire to play. It's normal.

I went through the exact same thing you're describing, and I've found that turned-based strategy games / RPGs are the perfect speed and challenge for me right now.

Check out the following games:

X-Com 2
Baldur's Gate 3
Shadowrun Trilogy
Chained Echoes

Elden Ring is a weird game that doesn't really succeed in being a good dark souls sequel.
Yes it is a soulslike, but it is designed and balanced in such a weird way that it really doesn't bring the same feelings at all. It's closest to DS2 than any other.

ER is what broke the camel's back for me. I didn't finish it, I didn't buy the dlc, and couldn't care less about Night Reign and whatever asset recycling they announced for the NS2.

There's a lot of of Chinese Souls-Slop on the way as well. Generally I can't get enough of souls-likes. But I admit, even I'm getting tired of it now.

Two games!? What are you talking about?

I'm talking about ALL From games since 2009 and nearly all imitators (except AC6)

Demon's Souls
Dark Souls
Dark Souls DLC
Dark Souls II
Dark Souls II DLC
Bloodborne
Bloodborne DLC
Dark Souls III
Dark Souls III DLC
Sekiro
Elden Ring
Elden Ring DLC
Elden Ring Nightreign
Lies of P
Lies of P DLC
First Berserker Khazan
AI Limit
Nioh
Nioh DLC
Nioh 2
Nioh 2 DLC
Wo Long
Black Myth Wukong
Wuchang
Another Crab's Adventure
The Surge
The Surge 2
Code Vein

I've played all of these and Im sure I'm forgetting stuff.

Seems like you should just player fewer of the Souls-inspired titles to avoid genre fatigue. I'd skip most of the stuff in the above list save for Nioh 1/2 and Lies of P.

Sounds like you already know what the problem is and what to do: stop playing games that are just Souls like. You don't have neither the time not the energy to it anymore. Don't worry, you can go months without playing anything while still being a gamer.

Yes. It's well connected, main hub is better, many locations are very good, and it has less weak locations. Nobody is forcing you to agree, don't worry.
Nothing screams better design than taking an elevator to a volcano in the sky or having maps made around ambush ganking squads!

Same as being underground and suddenly opening on an area with the ocean and bright blue sky without ever going back up. Makes perfect sense. These games are full of inconsistencies.
