I hate my new job.

Alright, some backstory first. I was previously working at a Mexican fast food place for 9 months, and in the last two, I became manager.

Work became a shitshow with all the drama and the cliques, so I got a job from a friend of a friend that pays way more.

Thing is, I hate it. Absolutely despise it. It's at a factory making wheels and it's the most soul-crushing work I've ever done.

It's 4 10 hour days, and I can't do it much longer. But I also can't quit because I have to support my mother and brother and I'm the only one working.

I just don't know what to do, especially since the guy who brought me on is training me to be fully suffiecnt by April since he's having a kid.

First of all, don't despair. Things WILL get better. You might want to look for new job opportunities though. Don't forget: We love you!

How long have you been at it? Some jobs get better with time. Four 10 hour days is awesome. I'd put up with a decent amount of crap to have three days off every week.

Suck it up.

I hate my job but I do it and do it well.

Look for something else in the meantime. Don't quit until you have something else lined up.

1. You don't owe anything to your job. If you find a new job that you think you'll like, take it and don't look back. Most companies will not hesitate to drop you in the blink of an eye no matter how loyal you are to them.

2. Why particularly do you not like the job? If it's the hours, you'll get used to it, getting that third day off to recover can really help.

I hated my current job at first then I got good at it.

Look for a new job while you're working at your current one. I don't get these types of threads. If you literally hate your job, look for a new one..

What is it you hate about it? The mundane nature of it? Are you allowed to listen to music or audio books or something as you work? If you can then I'd get some books centered around what you'd like to be doing and listen to them while at work and apply to places you'd like better while you keep at it in your current job.

First of all you can do it, and second give up some of that bullshit and get to work it could be worse. You could be on the street!

You gotta get used to long shots. A lot of part time jobs get you used to working only 3-6 hour shifts. Longer shifts get easier and you'll come to appreciate 3 days off every week.

Yeah. I'd rather be stuffing tacos than making wheels.

Well you are making more money, supporting your family and building a stronger resume. What is soul crushing about that? You were already a manager, congrats you reached the pinnacle of that profession.

This is the key thing for me. If you really can't handle it let your friend know now so they can get a plan together for when his kid arrives. Otherwise, I'd say buckle down, do the job, and save some money.

It's through a temp agency, and I don't want to let this guy down.

And I don't like it because it's mind numbing work. I do the same thing 150 times for 13 sets. It's like making 1500 wheels a night.

What exactly is bad about it? The work is just boring?

How much is "Way More" in regard to the pay?

Yeah this determines what you should do imo. If it's really good pay that you won't get elsewhere, it may make sense to work there for awhile, build up your credentials and a reserve fund, and then make your escape.

Immediately start hunting around for new work. Don't quit until you find something better but also don't stop pushing to find something better even if it takes a little while.

You can do this, OP. Don't give up.

OP, if working at fast food was enough to help support your family, go back to it, not necessarily the same place then after a while look for another job from there.

Yeah that's factory work for you. I used to work in a book plant. I had days where all I would do is just flip books on a conveyor belt. Think about time till your next break, not the end of the day.

OP is college an option for you ? I say go get a degree if you can.
Currently enrolled, but I can't rrally take any classes dut to the job right now.

My main issue is that my life feels like a rut, like this is all I've ever amount to and I'll be stuck here forever because the pay is too good.

My other issue is that I don't even see my brother anymore. He goes to school at 7am, and gets back at 330. I leave at 3pm and get back at 3an. And sleep around 330am.

See if you can move to the day shift. Working on a line is boring. Have a friend that does it and he just moved to days and likes it a lot better. Same work though pays well and he has 3 days off.

A factory assembly job pays more than a management position?

Some do. I remember doing way more by being an SMT/Machine Support worker than some managers at KFC/BK/etc

How's that different than stuffing "tacos"?

Variety. There were tacos, burritos, nachos. A whole menu to make. It was just more enjoyable because while its repetitive, there's still more to do.

And I never made 1500 tacos a night.

Huh? What did I say? Did I screw up again? :(
OP, it doesn't sound like something you'll be doing forever so while not just focus and learn some endurance while you take your time to look for a better career path. Try not to reduce things to running away and use them as an opportunity to become more resilient as you calmly plan your next move.

Some great advice right here. Do your job while you have to, do it well, but keep looking.

As for the friend being involved, that's trickier- can you talk to him about your concerns?

what is this pay that makes it so good? I dunno man, I honestly work very few hours is my biggest problem. Sometimes i barely make 400 a month though.. up to about 600 to 700

but for 3 hours of work a week i get payed about 50 dollars an hour and another 4 hours a week i get payed 23 an hour and i prefer it like this much more than i do a wal mart or taco job

+1 for this. Literally nothing to lose in looking elsewhere. Benefit of having a job isn't that it makes you money, it's that it allows you freedom to look for a different job.

Also this.

OP, you have to hang on for a bit. It's better to look for a job while employed rather than looking for a job unemployed.

People are allowed to not enjoy their jobs dude. Building your career, and making money are definitely really important, but so is personal happiness and mental well-being.

Nothing wrong with him wanting something more engaging.

Factory work really is awful and soul-crushing. I did that three summers to try to offset my college expenses. Definitely would not want to do that as my career.

But I agree with what a lot of people are saying. A) keep working - and being a good worker. You want a positive reference when you B) apply to wherever it is you might like better, whether it be your old job again or something different. C) TELL YOUR FRIEND.

Fuck mind numbing work.

Find something else and quit when it works out like others are saying.

Life is too important to waste on bullshit.

Lol at the argument that a job is a job. No way. If you have ambition, leave the factory/fast food shit behind.

Keep looking while you have your current job. Since you work 4-10 hour days, that should mean you'll have a day off to go for interviews. If you stay at a job you hate for too long, then your performance is going to likely get you canned. Just put on your best face, and do what's expected of you until you find something better.
