Working in retail, I noticed most people don't give a fuck about pennies.

IE, lets get rid of them.
Besides the time it would save, his point about saving zinc is a really valid one.

You can always glue your pennies to the sidewalk outside you house and get some use out of them that way.

I hated pennies in the UK. So I just dropped them into the nearest charity coin box I saw (rather conveniently there seems to be one at every cash register). If you're going to get rid of them you might as well give them to someone who wants them...
