I hate teachers who ask for papers but provide NO topics at all

How are we supposed to tell what you want? Die bitch! I finished my paper but I'm totally at a loss on how well it will be received and I loathe that feeling...

I've got the same "problem" in one of my classes. Some people are stressing out, but I like the freedom. I chose something that I'd enjoy doing, and that I know the teacher would like. That is, the international instability with the present unipolarity. LOTS of America bashing. I'm sure you'd like it!

There must be some kind of general guidelines. That's plenty enough for me. As long as they give me a ballpark length and an idea of the concept of what the paper ought to be, then that's more than enough.

I'm confident enough in my writing to know that on just about anything I write I will score no less than a B, regardless of how much bullshit it is.

same problem. I have to write a 12 page paper on something for my 102 class. I picked advertising and how it is getting out of hand. I hope I can meet the minimum requirements for length...I'm having problems finding sources that aren't web based. "Only 3 sources can be a web page" she says. grrr.

When you're in your last year of school you dont want to write about what interests you, you want to write about what interests the prof and get the shit done and over with.

So you're saying that 'the prof' managed to find a way of stopping you taking the easy way out and actually think about what you're going to write/write about?

+1 for The Prof, sounds like a smart guy to me :p

Aren't you a conservative? Shouldn't you be revelling in the personal freedom to choose a topic, free of opressive constructs from the elitist bureaucracy that the professor represents? ;)

? I always find that these are the easiest cause I can write about anything I that interests me....

Seconded. When I had no restrictions assignments in college I wrote about Necronomicon hoaxes inspired by Lovecraft, the formatting difficulties found when bringing widescreen movies to academy ratio televisions and horror film elements in Apocolypse now.

Have some fun.

Wait till you get 25 page papers on no topic at all, and if they're not on topic, you get to redo them. I've watched a line of crying people wait to talk to the professor after the final (when the term paper was due, he scanned them during the test and called people up during who did especially bad).

Do you still have copies of the Lovecraft and ApocNow papers? I'd enjoy reading them.

Goddamn that's fucking cruel... I'd have to really restrain myself from punching the professor in the face if that happened to me.
