I have now joined Club OLED. Which games look the most impressive?

If on PC - you can create 21:9 resolutions with CRU. Its nice to play like that when you want a break from 16:9.

Pretty much anything and everything looks amazing.

You will...however...grow to HATE 30 fps gaming. OLED really makes it look like a slide show and is the one instance where an instantaneous response time hurts the image motion.

However, games that have a lot of dark can REALLY benefit.

I've always been a fan of the blacks. Racist . . .

I'd recommend Sleeping Dogs definitive edition. It was the first game I happened to play with my oled monitor and 4090. Looks damn good.

This is the second time I've read this recently, but I don't remember people bringing it up before and oleds have been around for a bit now.
Is it only a problem with some displays?

Games with good HDR support look the best:

Doom Eternal
GTA 5 enhanced
FFVII remake
AC Shadows
Alan Wake 2
Ratchet
Cyberpunk

There are others that I don't remember right now...

Games with naturally dark environments really pop on an OLED so my recommendations would be

Cyberpunk
Dead Space remake
RE4 remake
Ori and the will of the wisp
Alan Wake 2
Control
Doom Eternal

What have you got it paired with? PC? Pro?

I'd recommend the following:
  • Cyberpunk
  • RDR2
  • GT7
  • Demons Souls remake
  • Forza Horizon 3-5
  • Horizon zero dawn - both the remaster and forbidden west
  • Solar Ash
  • Plague tale requiem
  • Callisto Protocol
  • Ratchet and clank rift apart
  • Doom Eternal
  • Witcher 3 next gen update (especially so if you've got a decent PC)
  • Helldivers 2 (again if you're on PC and don't have to suffer the shit PS5 IQ)
  • Returnal
  • Riftbreaker
  • Ghost of tsushima
  • Dead space remake
  • Nfs Unbound
  • Death Stranding DC
  • Ori - both games
  • Hollow Knight - looks like an entirely different game on OLED screens because of the blacks
  • The modern Atlus RPGs - Persona 3 reload, 5, SMT V and Metaphor
  • Tetris effect
  • Jusant
But generally, everything will end up looking much better providing the IQ is at a good level.

Is OLED still a mess on PC?
With all the issues regarding IPS and VA panels, I looked into oled monitors, but I can reading horror storries about how it is on Windows. Even outside of the potential burn in issues, I keep reading things about how the text is blurry and uncomfortable on Windows when using OLED, and also how many oled (in particular QD-OLED I think) have chromatic aberration built into the panel... which is really not encouraging.

Oh and also I definitely don't want a glossy panel, I would hate the reflections. Is OLED really not worth it on a matte monitor?

First game I played that is still the most impressive in feeling like a complete upgrade was the Dead Space remake.

The generally dark environments with heavy contrast lighting really brings out how good the OLED can separate pure black from strong hightlights in HDR without the halo glow of dimming zones on normal LED TV/Monitors.

Night and day difference, felt like getting a GPU upgrade. I'm using an LG C3 42 inch at my desk.

I can't talk about QD-OLED but I use my 55 inch WOLED as my monitor and it looks fine in W11.

Whoever told you it's a mess on PC is lying to you. I've used OLEDs as my main panel on PC for close to a decade now and haven't experienced any of what you've outlined.

Honestly it sounds like whoever has told you that didn't have their colour settings in the nvidia/amd control panel set up correctly.

I think you mean HDR
I don't know, it's something I heard many times.

Apparently it has to do with the shape of the pixels and how Windows renders text.

I remember Arkham Knight looking pretty sweet, but I'm not 100% sure it was because of my OLED TV.

Enjoy your gaming! I have the C1 and it still rocks!

This post is the right answer.

Rachet and Clank looks bonkers on an OLED.

I also recommend Returnal and Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Text looks razor sharp on my 48" OLED @ 4K. Have enabled 4:4:4 and set to PC mode. 200% zoom as default.

Same here, and I use 200% zoom on my 65 inch and 100% on my 55 inch.

I don't know how the fuck these people have theirs set up but the first thing they should be doing is making sure their colour settings are correct in the nvidia CP.

Everything. Blacks that are actually black just make everything else that much better.

I just got an MSI MPG 32 4K OLED to replace my aging 27 1440p IPS secondary monitor. It's so much nicer. My UW IPS primary is looking on with envy.

Anything will look better than on your average/mid LCD. As others said. Avoid 30fps on OLED. I only play 40/60 fps capable games on it.

I don't have a ton of experience with OLED gaming, but during the brief time I owned the Switch OLED, I nearly fell out of my chair playing Hollow Knight, especially as I was often playing it at night with the light off. It was an incredible effect.

Honestly, while most games look better I think Ori 2 is still one of the better showpieces.

The artstyle is very colorful, with high contrast and a nice mix of dark and light with great use of HDR

I don't really use my TV as a monitor but I do hook up my laptop to it from time to time and it seems perfectly fine.
My only issue is that with some games I've had a bit of trouble getting the HDR to work properly, specially if you connect the HDMI cable once the laptop is already on (turning it off and then booting it up with the cable already connected seems to solve most of the issues).

I use W11 and latest gen QD-OLED (monitor) as my daily driver.

No issues, text looks razor sharp. And burn-in for normal gaming use isn't really an issue according to some tests (see Monitors Unboxed's youtube channel).

Except that some games needs HDR/SDR switching to be done manually, while other games like f.ex. COD BLOPS 6 does it automatically.

But using the default Win+Alt+B shortcut to quickly switch between HDR and SDR is also fine to me.

Also worth mentioning, both W11 itself and the Nvidia app has automatic HDR modes for non-HDR games which works really well.

Everything. Literally everything is better on OLED. Do yourself a favour and properly calibrate it first though.
